- treed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I'm waiting for Battlefield 1776. That'd be awesome.
(No, this isn't sarcasm.) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8they need to fix lots of stuff
1. red blue bug = they have been saying the next patch will fix it
2. Menu
3. Server lists and on line matching is horrid
4. draw distance for vegetation. i hate thinking i am hidden only to be shot by someone a mile away because i wasn't being hidden.
BF2 is still my crack of choice - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Delete everything in:
C:Program FilesEA GamesBattlefield 2modsbf2Movies
It'll get rid of those unskippable intro thingies, and the video that runs in the background of the menu - it should speed things up :) - ArcaneDevice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5this could have had potential but they are basically modding BF2. After playing BF2 for a year I came to realize that it doesn't matter which side you play, they are basically identical with just different looking weapons. No differing styles of play, no major differences in armor or airpower, same unlockable weapons ...
After reading the PC Gamer preview it sounds exactly the same. A couple of armies with just visual differences. They should take a page from Starcraft or C&C. Make each damn side play differently so that you have to adopt different tactics when playing. Give one superior airpower, give one superior armor, each side having different styles of weapons with different effects with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Thankfully at least Enemy Territory seems to be giving each side unique abilities.
Another thing they dropped the ball with BF2 which should be in BF2142, is the kit. Joint Operations offered more customisation a full year before BF2 came out enabling you to pick every piece of kit you carry (including ammo) not just one weapon, and each item added to weight.
And add a damn "lean" command EA. Almost every FPS on the market has.
On the plus side at least there isn't that much they've announced. That means there's less for them to take out of the final release.
still listed on the official BF2 site:
"The new material penetration feature measures weapons ability to fire through barriers" - but only if it's certain sheet metal walls and certain weapons. Tanks still can't shoot through a palm tree.
"Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments," - a couple of bridges and occasionally a plank nailed to a fence can be blown up.
"Maps scale to the number of players engaging in battle for a unique and intense experience every time." - if you restart the game and select a different map size you get different boundaries. What happened to dynamic scaling in-game?
Hovercrafts, infantry equipped laser guided bombs etc. you know the rest ... - chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3because big robots are awesome :D
- christoscamaro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just hope the soldiers in 2142 can actually run longer then the 4 pack a day, overweight smoker soldiers in BF 1942.
- RabidFurby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Re-skin bf2, add a small amount of new content and resell it, nice thinking EA.
- Thmstec, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4not an xbox360 game. PC and likely PC only. The BF series does one thing that other games can't seem to manage: teamwork, vehicles, and 64 players. Find a 'fun' game out that does all of that, and I'll gladly get kiss EA's butt goodbye.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3
You have to remember that EA employees have bad vision due to lack of sleep.
They have bad vision due to lack of talent. - tafty86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yea, but all the problems with just getting onto a server to play when the game first came out was such a PAIN! And all the problems with updating your rank and stats, and I can't forget the random crashes.
I don't have a ***** PC, so the crashes weren't a resource issue and my graphics card was compatible and up to date too. EA rushed it way to soon. All I can do is hope that they learned something and try to redeem themselves and polish BF2142. God willing. - Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4BTW it says 2142 when it hardly can be called 2042.
These far-fetched futuristic games really start to get on my nerves on how unrealistic they can be. Well yeah if war will be like that in 2142 I'm impressed how we don't still use swords, circa 2006 - diafel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, the only thing more unoriginal than a FPS in a WW2 setting is a FPS shooter in a futuristic setting. You've raised the bar once again, EA!
- astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice... Its like Robocop Battlefield.... with the Ed-209 looking robot...
I like... but will it be a system hog like BF:2 is?
That is the question - lkrueger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree with a lot of you. This game doesn't impress me at all. I mean we're talking fall release at best. I would expect the graphics to be a little better. Those explosions look average.
- wiu_life, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If anyone really cares, http://www.totalbf2142.com. Who really wants futuristic warfare? I'm going to just still play BF2 even after 2142 is realeased as most of the nubs will goto 2142 and leave BF2 to people that know what they are doing and then maybe, just maybe we can get the items that were nerfed back to normal. Seriously, I shouldn't have to overheat a damn m134 to kill 1 infrantry from 300 feet.
- tafty86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The non-armored transport vehicles look like they have a lower polygon count then say the HUMVEE in BF2, but I will say that the texture mapping is a notch up. In one shot where the shadow of a fly machine is against a building you can see that they weren't running it with any AA (maybe 4x AA???).
I may be wrong but as a whole it looks a little better, but defiantly not any leaps or bounds from BF2. IMHO - ermau, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Because, you know, EA actually codes the game. /sarcasm
- abacadabbra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm actually looking forward to this game, the battlefield games are some of the best online games ever made. I just wish ea would slow down the speed at which they release these games, this ain't madden we don't need a new game ever year. They also need to make sure there patches work before releasing them.
- wolver1ne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Damn.. that looks like crap compared to Quake Wars. EA decided to jump on the band wagon, slipped and fell back.
- ArcaneDevice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2blame DICE for the game design. They got lucky with BF1942 and had a good idea that was fun to play. They've been recycling it ever since, promising a lot and then not being able to put it together without major bugs and dumped features.
They should concentrate on fixing BF2 bugs and then put some decent thought and time into BF2142. Not rush out a skinned clone a year later and then bug fix that one for the next 10 months. - OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2None of them came before Operation Flashpoint.
- Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But that's how easy money flows. EA got to know that some years ago and now their programmers practice the new American Dream, more laziness equals more money.
- tesseract18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only thing more UNORIGINAL then the both of those is setting a FPS in modern times. Oh and is it just me or is anyone else getting sick and tired of modern FPS taking place in the desert?
- squison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meh, I'm done with the Battlefield series. Dice in incapable of making a game that runs worth a damn. BF1942, BF:V, and BF2 are all plagued with a boat-load of bugs that just piss you off.
- kevinnn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Welcome to last month!
- Galaeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it just me or do those screenshots look alot like the video that was released..
- GamingPress, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's because they are, these are not new screenshots
- Mekun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I cant wait for EA to bleed people for added maps and weapons, wont that be GREAT! YOU GO EA!
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Remember to right click and select view image, or else you'll get a scaled version (70% in 1280x1024).
Looks great. - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2IM READY FOR PATCH 1213212313.12! Go Go EA!
- hollywoodone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Let me pull out my 1997 pentium so i can play that game on the system it's meant for.
- Jovan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is probably a good time to mention a bf1942 mod that lived once upon a time called.. DESERT COMBAT.
If I had a choice between DC and BF2, I'd go with DC, which is what I did. After I played BF2 long enough I realized what complete crap it was and went back to DC.
i am wondering, did DC die yet? - sourmash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not impressed at all with the graphics. Hopefully the gameplay is more impressive.
- tesseract18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I stopped playing the Battlefield series after 1942 (which was a 1 hit wonder IMO). BFV was just 1942 with different sides and 60's music, while BF2 is just 1942 with the desert combat mod and some updated graphics. In the end the game hasn't changed much from 1942 so it's just beating a dead horse.
BTW I'm glad some people noticed that all EA is doing is turning BF2 into Battlefield: Tiberian Sun. I just hope they don't kill the CNC franchise with CNC3. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too bad this game looks retarded. Dugg for the post though.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Its starting to look like unreal tournament to me :)
- ArcaneDevice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1BF2 did 64 players? Big whoop. Joint Ops did 150 players a year earlier, and with less lag.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hmm...
With all the money behind Dice and EA you'd think that they could hire
competent animators to make the mechs walk realistically, but noooo...
"let's animate them as if the laws of gravity doesn't apply in the future".
Amateurish =(
Sad since Dice worked to make most vehicles behave realistically in BF2. - Bradasaurus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Could care less, This is not BF1942 it is RENEGADE 2. They bought west-wood this is the first property based on the intellectual property they acquired. I wish them the best of luck as we still play renegade at our LAN weekends. Small maps low learning curve and FUN. Sometimes having the best graphics is not the answer. Ask anyone who is addicted to Tetris on their RAZR phone much like they were addicted to it as the first game we all played on our ORIGINAL game-boy's! (what is old is new again).
- Mystikal, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4/orgasm.
EA Had a press release on their site...i dont think thats fake. - hammerattack, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3What this buffoon doesn't realize is that some of us are happy with the existing game engine, and will gladly pay for the new 'mod'.
- JustMatt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5ronnieroller
140 days ago? Are you serious? - RUFiO006, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5No it's not, that was an April fools joke that went bad. For the full (and blatantly jocular) statement, read here:
http://www.quakecon.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5346
I'll still digg for the screenshots though, it looks awesome - Thmstec, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1not EAs fault, as I wish it were, its actually DICE
- ImTheDoctor, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1BF 2142 is very much going to be released, this fall in fact.
- oyourmom, on 10/12/2007, -29/+5BF2142 is over, they cancelled it. Forget posting screen shots, over, done, now go away.
