NOA: Wii Demo Units Not Just at GameStop
kotaku.com — "Playable Wii setups will be available at a variety of retail outlets. We expect that anyone who wants to try Wii will be able to through multiple different methods. In addition to retail outlets, Wii will be playable at a number of mall tours throughout the country, the nationwide Nintendo Fusion Tour and other grass-roots consumer events."

I'd like to start a grass-roots consumer, now then, I'll need at least 20 Wii units. Thanks.- techlinks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Oh, and don't forget I'm going to need gift bags filled with games to give out to...uh...the..."attendees".
:D

- EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1They better be set up at Fry's damnit!
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2how are they preventing people from stealing the wiimotes? same goes for the SIXAXIS. Steel cable most likely for the SIXAXIS, I assume. It would not interfere enough.
- tc811, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Aren't the Wii kiosks just going to have the wired wiimotes, like all console kiosks?
I assume they'd just have thicker cables maybe - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Simple really, an easilly flexable, and long, phonecord-like cord could be attached to the Wiimote, with a pretty standard security device attached, to prevent removal.
The cord, made mostly of flexable cable rubber, would have a thin coper wire inside, as part of the security device.
If either the cord is cut, or the sticky holding it on controller part is removed, it would set off an alarm.
Its actually a pretty simple and cheap theft prevention. In fact, most electronics stores use it on things like Digital Cameras. - mr.gates, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Your going to steal a sixaxis, yippi you got a PS controller -Dual Shock and + a motion sensor.
Not trying to bash the PS3, just saying there controller really isn't much of a trophy in regards to the system, where the wii controller IS the system + a overclocked GC.
Although I've known people to steal traffic cones, so anything is possible. - gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1At Gamestop the WiiMote and Nunchuck will NOT be attached to the kiosk. They will get stolen.
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Look at the picture in the article. Do you see those white things hanging below the controller? That's a tether from the WiiMote to the stand.

- dzmetcalf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1And just as many people like myself indicated in the story about Gamestop being the only store with official wii demo units. Of coarse Best Buy's gonna have at least one playable unit, however this is probably not going to be the one from Nintendo. As it says in the story if stores don't get the official kiosk they will recieve Wiimotes, I'm assuming somehow cordred on to something to prevent theft, but will need to provide their own wii and tv.
- Wonotch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Aren't all Wiis going to be from Nintendo?
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"...retailers will either receive a traditional pre-built, self-contained interactive kiosk with a TV, Wii and controllers or just the Wii and controllers..."
They will either get the full displays (like in the picture) or just the Wii and WiiMotes. They will have to provide their own TVs. Why the hell would Nintendo send out demo WiiMotes without the units?
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Um...when did any credible source say that they were only gonna be at GameStop? How is this news.
- abohling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1At most I had thought they meant Gamestop would have the kiosk but EB Games would not, but that just didn't make sense either.
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1im sure i will be standing in line while some lame kid plays it all day at walmart grrrr or toys r us
- po43292, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1from the original link: "Maximum Wii exposure" "Can't you go to jail for that?"
Yes you can. Ask your dad. - nmaster64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just got back from the Fusion Tour. I highly recommend a visit for anyone who has one coming near them. If you haven't tried the Wiimote yet it's really amazing! It's not as perfectly matched for FPS's as I thought it'd be, but it felt really comfortable in my hand, as if I had been using it for years, and I was wonderfully surprised by how much I enjoyed the Wii Sports games and ExciteTruck, and those are my two least favorite genres!
Oh, and the music wasn't that bad either. Not a fan of any of the bands, but it wasn't that bad. Got a bunch of free swag too...
