*NEW* Dan Aykroyd lets slip that there *IS* a new Ghostbusters video game.
edmontonsun.com — After much brouhaha regarding the Zootfly video, Dan Aykroyd lets slip that Universal bought the rights from Sony and he will be working next year on the upcoming game. I wonder if we'll get to see symmetrical book stacking?

- Braingoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Ok, Universal looks like the ball is in your court.
I don't care who makes this game as long as it gets made and made well.
The inclusion of Mr. Aykroyd is a good start, get the rest of them and you can't go wrong.
It now makes sense why the IP could not go to zootfly it was already in use by universal- ilyag, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18As long as we're hitting these cultural phenomena at the height of their popularity, I'm anxiously awaiting announcements for the videogame adaptations of Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Teen Wolf.

I don't know about Broderick, but that would be one awkward motion capture session with Fox.
I know. I'm going to hell. - lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Since the beginning of time, movie based videogame franchizes have produced very poor games. Now, whenever I hear of a video game based on a movie, I cringe a little. There might have been a couple of decent ones, but no great ones.

If you ever played back to the future on the NES, you would retract your statement. Just take my word for it, and spare your thumbs and your sanity. - TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"I don't care who makes this game as long as it gets made and made well."
The funny thing about this quote is that they hear part about
"I don't care who makes this game as long as it gets made"
and not the part about
"and made well."
oh well ya never know, even EA has pulled miracles - Spizzat2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3One of the big reasons video games based on movies suck is that they're rushed through production to coincide with the release of the movie. I just don't see that being much of an issue here.

(Does that make me sound dated?)- Satertek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes! I loved that game.
- TheGuy20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or the Atari one. Get ready to flip those switches fast!
- MysticX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well, the developers should play Luigi´s Mansion for the Gamecube and take that game as a "lesson" since it totally rocks. They even could remove the Nintendo stars and insert the Ghostbuster team instea, it would still rock.
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Wii-mote would make a good ghost blaster...
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11. Wont be until next year.
2. Universal should let Zootfly do the game for them. - jake8689, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cool but "IS" there going to be a new movie
- Kotoyumu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As an avid ghostbusters otaku, I would like to see a true end to the Ghostbusters franchise with a part 3

- ArtMonkeyWorld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Head over to
htttp://www.protoncharging.com
they are saying that a radio interview with Aykroyd stated that he is in talks to do a third Ghostbusters movie, but it will be all cgi. Which begs the question is this motion capture for a game, movie, or are both in the works. To read the articles, and updates on the site there seems to be some confusion here. Good news almost all the way around, but confusion none the less. - Sentry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So he's not starting the voice overs till next year I guess that means it will prolly be almost 2 years b4 it releases. Damnit I wish I wouldn't have saw those screen shots now I can't wait that long. : )
- brerfrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone still have the leaked game footage, all the old sites seem to have removed it and I can't find it on youtube/google....
- Matri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Destructoid article: http://www.destructoid.com/new-ghostbusters-game--29260.phtml#ext
- protogenxl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how do you guys feel about the new ectomobile being a dodge magnum (I could go either way)
- HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's was concept work from Zootfly, I doubt it's anything official.
I prefer the classic ectomobile myself.
- HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's was concept work from Zootfly, I doubt it's anything official.
- ArtMonkeyWorld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok, so I just listened to the interview, and word from the man himself says that although Ghostbusters three was dead this time last year, it is now alive and kicking, with Bill Murray who refuses to reprise his role in a live action production, now has agreed to voice a cg character in a computer animated Ghostbusters 3! Dan Aykroyd says that they can now do EVERYTHING that he ever wanted to in a Ghostbuster script and for much cheaper if they do it completely CGI.This is Fantastic!!!!! Wanna her it for yourself? The go here:
http://www.cisnfm.com/station/blog_mike_mcguire.cfm?bid=7500- HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just submitted that under the "movies" section, as it's too awesome to not have its own post!
- StinkyPudding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Let's hope Ackroyd isn't also in talks to reprise his role for Caddyshack 3.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Given that Sony and Universal are locked in a battle to the death with BluRay vs. HD-DVD, I find this unlikely.
- HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The rights are just for the video game, not for the next movie.
- guyver8400, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://digg.com/movies/CONFIRMED_Ghostbusters_3_Aykroyd_and_Murray_on_board

Are these the same?- HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think so. In the newspaper he talks about the video game rights being purchased from Sony by Universal and in the radio interview he's clearly talking about a new movie. I don't think there's anyway in hell Sony wold allow Universal to purchase the actual film rights, as that would include the first two films.I think it's safe to say that the storyline and a lot of other "assets" from the film will be used in the video game though.
- ArtMonkeyWorld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would say thats a fair assessment.
