My PC can run Half-Life 2 at 1600x1200 with 2x AA, and Oblivion at 1280x1024 with long view distance and HDR, yet Battlefield 2 only runs at 1024x768 with medium to low settings. ....BF2 was a sequel to BF1942, it used a new, albeit worse engine and was "updated" with unlocks and ranked servers and some cool stuff.
Half-Life 2 was also a sequel to Half-Life 1, it had a pretty much total engine re-code only keeping the framework and parts of the netcode intact.
BF2142 RUNS ON THE SAME ***** ENGINE AS BF2, IT'S JUST GOT REPLACED TEXTURES, MAPS, VEHICLES AND LEVELS. IT IS A MOD!!! IT IS NOT THE SAME AS YOUR OTHER TWO EXAMPLES!!!

- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I was invited to be a part of the tuning beta. Except for his problems with DX9c (won't do WGA, wonder why?) I experienced everything that he did. Install problems, registration problems, a browser that ran like molassas in January, game slowdowns, VOIP that never worked right, you name it.
The frustrating thing is that one those rare occasions when the damn game was working correctly, it is actually a good experience. But, to be honest, this franchise hit its height with BF1942 and its initial mods. BFV was just a mod, and BF2 started the technical problems that continue with this version. Aside from graphics, the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 played better than BF2. But I am glad to hear that other people are thinking that it is laggy/choppy and that it just isn't my computer, because I know that the Radeon x800 is slowly becoming outdated, and I didn't want this game be the one to tell me to get a new graphics card. - nihility, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13It is choppy, but that's really nothing new to battlefield games and I kinda expected it...even so they should fix it (or at least spend another year working on bf2 first)
Anyway, its a decent rant but he's off in a few areas.
The demo was available on many major sites by Friday, such as fileplanet. It was on torrents even earlier than that.
My directx didn't need to be upgraded, but whatever, it should've been included.
Titan mode isn't CTF at all. CTF means you grab an object and run it back to your base. Titan mode is simply the standard conquest without tickets and with an extra objective (destroying the titan once its shields are down).
The server browser is MUCH improved from bf2, and if he would've found the "advanced" tab he would've found pings.
Load times are also A LOT faster than bf2 (for me at least) once you get past the first one where you optimize shaders.
Besides that, he makes some good points. The game itself still feels a little slow, regardless of ping.
All in all, I agree with him that this is not worth 50 dollars, and should be released as an expansion (if its possible) or if not, charge 30-40 bucks for it, since its just new maps, a gamemode, and some skins/models. But its still a ton of fun and will be a big seller, as the battlefield series usually goes. - IEEE1394, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Dugg. Too lazy to download. Might as well have someone else do the rant.

* Weapons become less powerful
* Weapons become accurate
* There is little to no negitation
* It's more difficult to heal someone
* Humans are worse physical condition, and have more trouble running
* We still have plenty of box shaped trailer buildings

- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Funny, took me maybe 20 minutes to set up once I DLed it. I just googled the name of the DLL and downloaded it directly. The interface was kind of laggy, but not a big deal. I hate those colored ping indicators. I didn't have as many ping problems as you seemed to have. I get a consistent 10-20 ms.
Other than the initial problems and minor (IMHO) interface irks, I really like the game. The vehicles are great (and they aren't all the same like in BF2). I wish they didn't lower the number of kits (though the customization looks like it has promise).

This game is complete crap and deserves to get as much negative attention as possible so that no one will buy the game and maybe EA will learn. The thing that'll suck is a ton of people will still just buy this because it's got the brand name "Battlefield" and thats all EA is using to sell it.

When I want to play a game, I want to play it NOW. I don't have time to mess with a game that takes so ages to start playing and crashes every few minutes.

After downloading the demo I was up and running within 20 minutes and I havent had any problems since - great ***** demo, and titan mode is a new refreshing game mode - NOTHING like capturing a flag, which requires you to take something and bring it back to your base. Titan mode is all about infiltrating their flagship and destroying it. This guy needs to buy a clue.

Spawning is my main rant - people should not be allowed to 'appear' in random places around you - it makes for a frustrating game when it invalidates what you saw (e.g. an open field, an empty room) two seconds ago. If I were to get shot by a sniper today, I would die a happy man just knowing that he was probably already camping in that tree before I swaggered out on the deck for my morning smoke.
In and of itself, spawning is not all bad - it helps to maintain a fast-action pace. It's just the execution of the idea that EA has buggered up. - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Check this review out too..

I believe that the new unlock and ranking system has alot to do with character abilities and weapons performance. The demo is probably not a good indicator of what a developed character would be like. This game IS JUST a copy of BF2. It's a ***** mod!
And I keep getting dropped from servers all the time. I'll be 10 minutes into a game, and poof! Connection lost!
The gameplay is terrible too. I don't like how the weapon switching works (you can't switch when scoped) and I don't like how long it takes for your reticle to center whenever you stand or go prone. It's like...5 seconds. I'm dead in 5 seconds, so this isn't very adventageous.
With all the bugs BF2 had, 2142 is even buggier/less enjoyable. Then again, EA had to go ahead and totally ***** up bf2 with the 1.4 patch (hooray for random server crashes!). - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"It's not hard at all to get DX9 installed."
Yeah, DX9... Or even DX9.0c... But this REQUIRES the latest version of DX9.0c... It was a pain to find and get, I already had DX9.0c, but apparently not the newest version that they needed. You obviously didn't have as many problems because you probably installed 9.0c relatively recently(since august). -
