Picture of the Browser on the site that I just linked to. ^^ - doted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12DS systems are entirely region free.
- PercyKittenz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It's forgivable that the Opera browser won't have Flash or Quicktime, it's only, what, a 67mhz processor with some sort of video processor? As long as it supports cookies and Javascript, though, this thing works as a great online productivity tool for checking e-mail and appointments on Google. (I know, I'm so boring.)
Hopefully, someone will make a page with lots of flashing colors so people can fix their stuck pixels without the use of a homebrew kit. - MasterBeowulf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13COMPLETELY AWESOME!! Nintendo and Opera... what a perfect pair! I can't wait to get my DS Opera browser! Great review!
- doted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11it was very fast, loading pages was fast, the room had wifi going to a dsl line that was being used by many people at the time. to be clear, this was much easier to sue than the psp browser and since it's the DS the range was about 4 times what PSP can handle. Ive used both, and will not use PSP browser in the future unless my DS gets kicked into a river.
built on opera 8.5 or 6 i believe, so comperable to that.
pictures download while the page does, but you have the option of turning pictures off, which is really nice.
not a single error all day. - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10im looking forward to the wii opera browser :-)
- doted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10back forward refresh search favorites settings switch view mode screenshot and help... not in that order
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9it sucks that the guy said nothing about the buttons at the bottom, other than 'that they're there'
i want details, people.... DETAILS - pbjorge12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Uhh...ya...it is...Name another piece of hardware that can get you on the internet for under $165...
- m1k372, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Better pics
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-dy-49-en-70-1gba.html - CyberGlitch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I was skeptical about an internet browser on two little screens, but Nintendo and Opera seemed to have pulled off a intuitive and useable piece of software. Impressive.
- doted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7see above.. hint, its faster by a lot
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@pbjorge12
you're right. the only thing you can get for less than that is dial up. unless you use a cell phone, in which case you're paying an arm and a leg for the service charges anyway. - doted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8i was using the japanese devel version (the homepage was set to google.co.jp) but everything was in english, even the help. this may have been an english version for the opera launch event, so i can not be 100% sure, sorry.
- doted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8there was sort of a browser for dreamcast, but it was insanely limmited and the dreamcast was more expensive.
- drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -3/+10great review ed
- pintong, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8FINALLY more screenshots and reviews! The Opera browser is my DS killer app.
- djp2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7with the bonus of course that you have to pay Opera/Nintendo directly for this version and therefore Opera might get some good revenue. Lets hope that they sell these in the millions and millions.
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7well, the PSP browser doews suck, I own a PSP, and it is slow as hell and can't load a page with more than a few pics.
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's too bad there is no US release date-- I am tempted to import this one...
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5read the god damn article. He talks about it being as fast as on his comp.
- tadunne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It would make a nice little cheap device for surfin the web at home, but why doesn't nintendo support WPA security!?!? DS wifi is a no go on my home network..
- doted, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8wont support flash because of all of the copyright bs. maybe in a future update, but the build i had did not
- dmron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6God damn I cannot wait for this to be released. :)
- quamb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7fair enough - not that important for a mobile browser anyway. But it would be nice, and you can only imagine the type of flashDS games that would be made!
Perhaps we'll be able to download it as a DS plugin in the near future... - srg13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Looks great!
I wonder if it's upgradable, or if we're going to have to pay for new versions.. - JoshHendo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Im not a big fan of Opera... but this is really cool! Gives me a good enough reason to get a lite.
- Etheo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I must say I'm not a big fan of Opera, but I'm happy that it's not IE at least :D. Firefox can wait. Opera is still a great addition to web surfing on DS... speaking of which, my DS lite could REALLY use :D. I'm so happy I just wish they'll release the US version on the same date.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5dont forget javascript mario it wont be at a total loss
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6damn, no flash? woulda been cool to watch youtube stuff on the go...
what about javascript? - schwegler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Opera Rocks My Socks Off... and since the DS version doesn't have widgets I have no negatives about the DS browser and I plan to buy it as soon as I can.
- strom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6dugg for the "it prints money" pic. i want that as my wallpaper.
- TruthElixirX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7What sort of resolution will I be browsing with on my DS?
- TimRogers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hell yes! Now, if only the reviews would piss off, I just want the product now!
- Etheo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I sure hope it's upgradable, or at least you can modify it to some degree. Knowing Nintendo, this is probably not a good chance, but here's to hoping. It's a shame they can't implement flash in, but hopefully at least java is supported. Maybe they'll surprize us.
I'd also like to take this chance to say thanks to doted for posting a good hands-on for those info-hungry gamers waiting for the Opera on DS lite. And also great replies to comments here! Dugg and dugg. - ant9821, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I have been waiting for months on this. I will definitely be importing it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5so...if you don't know japanese, is this importable?
i know you can visit US sites and all, but what about options / preferences, etc, any english? - quamb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Still no word on Flash / Quicktime / etc?
- doted, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5i do not know, sorry, it was a question that couldn't be answered because the number had not been finalized at the time.
- MrObjectional, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think it looks great- really fully featured. I think Opera was the best browser to put on the DS. I prefer Firefox because it's open source and the extension system is awesome, but as far as putting it on a game system, Opera has always had the best features first in a lightweight, intuitive package. Good call, and I can't wait for the Wii version.
- Kazenodeku, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Sadly, from what I understand there's no Flash or Quicktime.
Which would be my primary reason for picking this up. If there was flash capability on the DS, I'd love them to death. - poetfox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If this had something like AIM built in, I would be there in upwards of 4 seconds. As it is, though, I'm still very tempted. Everything I'm hearing says it'll be faster than the PSP's ***** browser, and that would be nice...
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No, ya see, you're missing the point. I can get a DS and web browsing for less than the price of a PSP, and when I buy a DS, I know I'm getting a good backing of games (not interactive comics), and the browser is efficient to boot. And ya know what else? If I don't want to buy it, I'm not paying that in the purchase price, unlike with the PSP.
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just wish they had made it only on the GBA cart so that you could use the browser to get on networks where you have to sign in on a web page before you get Internet access. Then you could play games.
- Etheo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why would it be in chinese? It's made from japanese for Japanese.
If you look at the pics from play-asia (look above) you'll see the texts are mostly japanese. - anonymousabe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3
Very nice. This looks like a good example of how Nintendo is saying they want to change the direction of the company. But I just want a Super Smash Bros remake for the DS (that has online multiplayer of course!!) That would be absolutely beautiful. - worbd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Opera wants to be Firefox."
Then how come Firefox keeps borrowing features from Opera? Most of the new features in Firefox already existed in Opera or were invented by Opera! - Jakub81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2But PSP doesn't have Opera, the best browser for portable devices.
