- Xtrem3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Come on now, who expected this to work flawlessly, when manufactured by a third party... With lackluster products...
- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -16/+24I'm just glad that the playing field remains even.
I'd hate to have a disadvantage using the controller that the system was intended to have.
Now, this next part may offend some people... But I believe there should NEVER be anything like this for a console. I understand that people complain that the analog sticks aren't as accurate (And they're correct) but people, the reason you get a console is for the system, titles, and CONTROLLER. If you wanted to play Gears, but are shying away because you can't use a mouse and keyboard, stay. away. Consoles and PC's are separate for a reason, because they have different experiences. One uses a mouse and keyboard, one uses a controller.
Let's keep it that way. - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I come from a PC background(heavy DoD player), and play Gears on the 360 just feels horrible to me. I love the game, but aiming with the control sticks is just torture after coming from KB/Mouse... I think that they should allow people to use the most accurate and "right feeling" controls that they can... Maybe they could even segregate the servers, have some KB/Mouse servers, and then other servers with normal controllers...
I don't think I'm going to buy another FPS on the system until I can figure out a way to use good ol' KB/Mouse on it. - raj3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7All it does is emulate the movements already possible with the controller, so you still get the same sluggish feel like you are moving through jello, rather than the smooth "free-look" mouse/keyboard feel. The games themselves would probably play great with m/kb if there was native support, so its not necessarily that the core gameplay is incompatible with m/kb (except that obviously the games have to slow down the pace a bit to accomodate the limitations of the controller).
- 15charmaxwtf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's like playing Goldeneye on an emulator with the mouse.
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I buy the console for the titles. It's only incidental that the titles are used through the system and controller. While multiplayer has issues with needing a level playing field, in single player if "cheats" and online saves enhance the playing experience for you then why not.
On the other hand if someone wants to play Spyro with a dance pad, which might make it trickier, that's fine as well.

8. I also got mine on Friday, and I have to say that it must have been the mouse you guys were using because I'm quite happy.
So far I have tried it with Perfect Zero and GOW. Zero is not a very good game, in my mind so didn't spend a lot of time playing it, but the XFPS 360 worked great. GOW i had begun to master this game via the controler and was curious how it would improve my game in GOW, HUGE diff for me, it's all about the mouse movements for me, with the controller I felt like a tard when it came to aiming. I found the mouse movements far better than if I was using the controller. Is it the same as a PC using a mouse and keyboard, no but is it better than fumbling around with controller.
"The XFPS only has two USB slots and the controller takes up one of those, so we're not really sure how you program your mouse and keyboard if they're both USB"
My set up is with a USB mouse and keyboard, the directions clearly tell you how to set up the XFPS with two USB devices. Simply start with the wired controller plugged into the XFPS and once the device is recognized, then you unplug it and then plug in your keyboard and mouse.
My biggest gripe is that they don't clearly state that it requires a wired controller, the charge cable and a wireless controller is not sufficient, it MUST be a wired controller, I had to run out and get a wired controller that I most likely will never use so that the system is tricked into thinking the XFPS is a wired controller. If I knew that and extra 40 dollar controller was need to make an 80 controller work then I would have waited until the prices were lower.

Wouldn't that work better with a keyboard and mouse anyway as well seeing as the point of the game is to aim. - evil-doer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4just as ive predicted here in past stories. the games were not designed to work with a mouse. waste of money.
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3RTFA
- BrandonR717, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't know what everyone is whining about with the controllers not being accurate. I get headshots in GoW all the time on Live, it's not hard. I come from a PC background too... you just have to adapt. If you can't, well, you're missing some great games.
- 1310nm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is very disappointing, I would buy a 360 in a heartbeat if I could play FPS games like GoW ACCURATELY with a mouse/kybd.
- ninjakoala, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"It's good as a Dual Shock adapter though."
Yay, so I can get RSI from using an inferior controller o/
I'd rather have a 360->PS2 converter, so I can play games without hurting my hands (got a bit of an arthritic condition). - jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1to back up what's been said before in this thread. if you're from a pc fps background, and lived and breathed your respected game, it becomes hard to move to any console to play fps games. me personally, i refuse to play them. but then what pc gamer gets a console to play games that are available on the pc??
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The article should be renamed to "FPSes on a console not all they're cracked up to be." PCs+mouse+keyboard and FPSes go hand in hand. Most people I know have had to give themselves a game-playing lobotomy to get better at using the joystick on the concoles than they used to be with the mouse on the PC.

Well, yeah. It's undeniable that a Mouse and Keyboard lead themselves to a faster and somewhat smoother control scheme. No offense, but these games deserve to be played right. Port them to the PC, if need be, to make it fair. The Xbox control scheme is a travesty to Shooters, first or third. - DisposableRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, I play both PC and consoles so I'm getting tired of people who suck at using controllers so they always have to complain about FPSs even being made for consoles.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I used a similar product for the PS2 and it was crap as well. People for some reason seem to think that when they put FPSs on a console that they don't tweak them to take advantage of the controllers.
- quadforce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hah.... I knew they bought that good review from maxconsole last week..
- jonesy827, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I do agree that controllers are not the best for FPS titles. If both setups would be natively supported then I believe this problem will be solved. I ordered this adapter after reading the review on MaxConsole, and hope to God that they and comment 8 on 360fanboy aren't XCM pulling a big one on us.
The only titles I would play/try to play would be Halo 2 and GoW....but I don't know what a good gears setup would be... Maybe right mouse as go to first person? - Tordenflesk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Digg me down, i didn't see the PS1-hole in the box. Damn those black-levels!
- Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3thanks
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Clever.
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Aren't FPS games etc designed for the controller in mind? Look at Star Trek Legacy.. Completely ***** with the Keyboard and Mouse, but it works great with the controller? :S
- Tordenflesk, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2"To use a Dual Shock (even a PS1 Dual Shock will work) all you have to do is plug it in"
Square peg in a round hole anyone? Since when did the PS1 have either PS/2 or USB? Damn they're stupid - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0if you want a better mouse and controller for the XBOX junco games has just comeout with an upgraded set that is compatible with the 360 as well as a better keyboard. here is the link
