More Wii Secrets, Revelation Coming

kotaku.com — In the latest bit of death by PR, GamePro has confirmed that Nintendo isn't finished telling us about the Wii. No, they still have anywhere from a "big Wii revelation" to a "couple of other surprises" to spring on us before the console is in our hot little hands.

      2.) Wii Connect will allow any and all users to download any previous games from the NES, SNES, and N64 system for free, because of the very small file size of the games. My friend along time ago, use to work at nintendo, and had a white NES cartirdge that had over 120+ NES games on it, with all the titles on it. said like nintendo programming at the beginning of boot up.

      from all the images and movies i've seen on the internet, the resolution is playing back bright and clear, and doesnt give that fuzzy feeling that the gamecube gave because it wasn't hd, being sd.

      Second... The file size of games has NOTHING to do with how much they cost. You're paying for the actual game, not the cost of downloading the game. Why would they throw away this excellent potential source of revenue?

      The "revelation" is most likely something much more mundane, like some kind of new channel or a new kind of DS+Wii connectivity.

They put Metroid, SMB,.....I'm sure there were more, but put those out at like $20 a pop. There is a market for it, so no it won't be free. Look at how much success Xbox Live has with its cheap games. I'm a cheap bastard and I'd pay a few bucks for some old classic games. There are MANY spoiled kids out there who will be getting the cheap games.

      I agree too that it will be something like the DS connecting to it like the SP and the Cube. That really is a no brainer.

      Considering the Wii is going to be just as powerful (if not more) than the original Xbox I do not see why the system would automatically "cost" more to output 720p. Hell if the PS2 can hit 1080i why in the world can the Wii not do it? I find it hard to understand why so many people are saying that nintendo wont (and even cant) to had resolutions. It makess no sense.

      If there was a better control on duplicate stories, you would only see me once, but if the story is repeated, I repeat also, and I bury all the copycats.

      Same goes for the "new X360 fall update" there was about 20 digg on it, I didnt have a thing to say about it, but if I did, I would have copied it all over.

      Sorry, just doing what I thought to be the easiest to be seen. and it worked, so Kudos to me.

      btw one I have -46 and on the other I have +34, so it all depends on your perspective.

Do I like the virtual console? Yes, but all my older counsoles still work so no big thing to me. the whole motion sensitive controller thing i honestly is going to end up being gimmicky. When i want to play a game, i don't want to be swinging my arms around like a maniac or anything. I want to relax and just enjoy the game. If i wanted to swing my arms around and get tired from something, I'd go outside and play a sport. I'm very content w/ my 360, and honestly, I will probably buy a PS3 before a Wii, but thats just me.

    Honestly though, Nintendo has executed this launch brilliantly, I haven't seen such a huge marketing blitz for a product like this in forever, and I have yet to even see a single commercial yet.

    Back to the OA though, it was posted yesterday and the popular theory was that Wii play was going to be bundled with a new Wiimote. 720i/p would be amazing, but the odds of that happening are a bit slim.

      If it was a *really* big revelation it would have been announced already, this sounds like more of a teaser.

This would work with the Virtual Console and would trump the PSP's PS1 emulator. The only question to this working is whether or not DS has the memory to hold these things, if even just until the system is shut off.

      That said, is the DS powerful enough to do full speed SNES emulation? I thought not.

And if they add DVD playback a year later, i'll be pissed...Only because I hear a DVD player with an NVIDIA chip kills a topnotch $700 player.

      There already exist a homebrew emulator in the form of snesDS which works very well speed wise, its however rather feature incomplete. However since Nintendo themself mentioned that they will 'enhance' some old games that might not be an issue, i.e. if there is some effect that DS has throuble emulating, they could simply remove or change it into something that the DS can emulate.

      I know I might be speaking in the wrong crowd here but the PS1 games have just as much nostalgia as the Snes and Genesis games, I am not so sure trump would be the right word to use.

      Ug. There was about 5 good games for the PS1. They in no way compared to the greatness of the SNES. The only console that, in my mind, has been better than the SNES is the GBA SP.

      Zelda
      Super Metroid
      F-Zero
      Pilot Wing
      Star Fox
      Yoshi's Island

      Name one PS1 game as CLASSIC as any of these.

      And MANY MORE that I can't think of right now.....

      One title that is a timeless one would have to be symphony of the night and another that is instantly recognizible and cant vie for the title would be Final Fantasy VII. Only 5 games? I understand you like nintendo but it is fact that the PS1 had many classics. Even if you don't consider them classics many other people would and the PS1 to this day still had a larger installed base.
  • roboninja, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6It has already been said before, but apparently people are not hearing it; you do NOT have to "swing your arms around like a madman" to use this controller. It has a high degree of sensitivity that allows for small movements to control on-screen actions. Sure, some games like a table tennis game might ask you to emulate swinging a paddle, but they are in the minority; most games will just require you to twist and turn the controller with your wrists. Hate the Wii if you want, but making up reasons to hate it is fan-boyishly pathetic.

  • Seibei, on 10/12/2007, -15/+0I don't think the Wii's gonna be all that great when it comes out, Nintendo allways seems to be below Microsoft's Xbox and Sony's PS2 demand-wise, with the expectation of a few good games. (such as SSBM, Metroid Prime..)

    But even the recent titles are being released for only the PS2 Xbox, and Xbox 360, Nintendo seems to be a little left out.

      Sometimes there's almost greater issues at play than "demand" as well.

      Anyway, play all systems. Don't make up your mind which is "best" prior to having the opportunity to actually play 2 of the 3. It's amazing how many people on digg already know that the Wii "rocks" and the PS3 "sucks" and vice-versa. Geez.

    It would be a way for Nintendo to make up for the retailer-inflated price of the system (Seeing as how they wanted to launch it at $200).

  • IOIIOOO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Didn't some patent filing for the Wiimote show that it was also to work as a microphone at one point? Given that Nintendo has made moderate use of the DS mic for games and how popular karaoke games are in Japan, I could see this happening.

    Of course, maybe they dropped that functionality due to issues between the mic picking up the Wiimote speaker sounds.

  • vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I find it weird that so many people are hopeful for 720p. When the whole HD question first came up, virtually every Wii supporter's line was that 720p was pointless because nobody had HD anyways and that graphics weren't such a big deal.

    Did a lot of you suddenly get HD sets inbetween then and now?

    Also, for what it's worth.. it's.. remotely hopeful that at some point in the Wii's life it could do 720p in select games. The PS2 has had various games support 420p, 720p and 1080i later in it's life.
  • cjschmidt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think they'll take the "channels" concept further and announce streaming video channels (YouTube, ABC, NBC, FOX, USA, SciFi). I know many people who would buy a Wii for this alone (and eventually get hooked playing games). This would fit in perfectly with Nintendo's current strategy and provide a controlled environment for the networks to stream their shows (with commecials, probably). Who wouldn't pony up for a Wii if it meant you could catch up on Battlestar Galactica, sword fight your old college roomate 1000 miles away, then watch the newest Lost all with the same remote.

As far as bandwidth for watching the show 480i can easily be managed on most broadband connections. XBox Live has toyed with video distribution (mostly HD), but the Wii could really put a user friendly face on streaming video.

They've confirmed that Japan will get a Wii w/ DVD functions, but that the US/EU will not.       From what I read it was explicitly stated that there were no plans to bring the Wii+DVD combo to NA or EU, not that it just wasn't confirmed.

To connect to friends you'll need a certain code you gain by registering...no lobby areas like Xbox Live. Taken from a reliable source. Releases on the 19th...PS3 on the 17th.

  • optikshell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know people have already suggested/debunked the idea... but what about Mario Galaxy for a release title? The ONLY thing that made me a bit curious is the fact that the three other games featured on the Wal-Mart buyers guide (with help from IGN) cover are release titles... yet Super Mario Galaxy is the 4th one. I don't know why they'd show that screenshot on the cover other than for brand recognition.
