- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The Doom version on the Xbox 360 is "Ultimate Doom". Ultimate Doom simply added the fourth episode: "Thy Flesh Consumed" and it was the version that released in stores. Up until then you could only buy it over the phone/via mail. Final Doom would be interesting as it was done by the great modders at Team TNT (http://www.teamtnt.com/ ).
I would greatly prefer Doom 2 over Final Doom though. I just like trying to get through all the levels without dying. - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4--Slightly offtopic warning--
If this Digg story has made anyone else nostalgic, I HIGHLY recommend checking out "Classic Doom" - a Doom 3 mod that faithfully recreates the shareware levels of the original Doom in id's gorgeous new engine. This mod is a labour of love and has been tweaked for balancing with custom-made weapons, secret rooms intact, and an increased number of baddies onscreen (as compared to Doom 3). And man oh man, the live metal renditions of the soundtrack are absolutely incredible (the speed riffs in the first level's song will blow you away).
The mod is totally free and requires Doom 3. If you like it, express your appreciation to the project team on their forum like I did!

- unununium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think you know which doom we're talking about.

Who am I kidding? I don't speak Latin.
Or Wile-E-Coyotese, or whatever. Anyway, we're at the new site and there are fewer than 100 broken links, so I'll consider it a success. Now for a week's vacation. Seeya.. "
I digg their work ethic. - AlexMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Wootery
That's what I meant. - Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's cheating, where are the IPX-over-IP wrappers?
- AlexMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I paid 9 bucks for Doom Collectors Edition. In spite of being bundled with the craptastic Doom 95 source port, having legit, fully patched copies of Ultimate Doom, Doom 2 and both Final Doom WAD's was totally worth 9 bucks, especially considering how much enjoyment I've gotten out my origional 10 year old copy of Doom 2, and usermade source ports like Eternity and ZDoom can fix the "Doom 95 sucks" problem.
And Doom and Doom2 WERE released for the Xbox. Unfortuniatly, you had to buy Doom 3 and the RoE expasion to play them. - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I too, would prefer DOOM2 over Final Doom.
But more doom? Awesome.
Anyone remember that mod that would create DOOM3 when it did some kind of compilation of Doom1 + Doom2? LOL - rednukleus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They probably have ratings from when they were released with the collector's edition, if ratings weren't around when they were first released. Are you even sure these games had no ratings on first release? Do you even know that these are both old games? They're also still available for purchase, so it would make sense that they'd have ratings by now. Why the #@#$ is this on the front page? Digg this down for making no sense at all.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh well... it gives us a chance to talk about Doom at least :)
- Dundasbro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Chuck it on the wii in the VC section! ;-)
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They were a little more prolific back in the day. Compared to a lot of the other stuff that was out there their stuff was just plain sick.
- justice7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have DOOM on XB Live Arcade.. and yes its online multiplayer. Kicks ass.
I mean come on, its DOOM. - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2considering Ultimate Doom is already on the XBOX360 ... i dont think its a stretch.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DWANGO wads... oh the memories. Dial up multiplayer Doom, Doom 2, and Duke 3D. No griefers or swearing little kids, not when you have to pay by the minute to play. And Dogtag "CTF". Amazing how fun a 2v2 game can be.
I'd take that sense of community and quality of gameplay any day over what's currently available. - justice7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doom is 800 points on xbox live arcade.
that translates into about $10 roughly. - Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Unfortuniatly, you had to buy Doom 3 and the RoE expasion to play them."
On the contrary, you buy Doom3 and RoE, and you get DOOM and DOOM2 for free.
"Doom is 800 points on xbox live arcade.

That makes sense, thanks for the sensible answer. (I never did get Live - Xlink Kai for me.) - AlexMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed. The difference between deathmatching in vanilla Doom and Doom 2 is like night and day, and it's about time that a wider audience learned what it means to be spanked in map01.
Doom 2 DM is vastly underrated, and deserves to be up there with Quakeworld and Quake 3 CPMA in terms of competative potential. Watching two skilled players duke it out on one of the "big three" (Doom2 MAP01, DWANGO5 MAP01, JUDAS23_) is a sight to behold. However unlike modern competative games, Doom 2 is much easier to get a handle on, movementwise, which makes it much more accessable. I mean come on, damn near anybody can learn to straferun. - bickdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and Wolfenstein 3D
- AlexMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is already something coming that will give ZDaemon a run for its money. It's called Odamex. =)
- rednukleus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2teaches me to read the article.
- dr00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1try making your point more vague next time.
- Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is it me or could the Xbox 1 handle the classic DOOM games quite easily?
(Actually, they already can, with a homebrew port/SNES emulation.)
Wonder why they're making it 360 only. - chedabob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Because Live Arcade was a failure on Xbox 1, and releasing Doom as a standalone game is a waste of money (Who honestly would pay $40 for a 15 year old game?)
- Step1Mark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1For the Wii V.C.?
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Ohh great, more running through endless low poly over-shaded tunnels.
- unununium, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1You completely missed the point of my argument, but thanks for trying.
- unununium, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1It's a bit of a stretch to say that a game is coming to the XBOX360 because it has an ESRB rating.
