- Ghostberg, on 10/26/2009, -30/+180Cool. To bad I wont be purchasing this game after that whole no dedicated server announcement. ***** YOU IW
- flyinfoofighter, on 10/26/2009, -5/+114Let me guess, the next 'feature' is going to be auto-aim for the PC...
- AdmiralAcbar, on 10/26/2009, -9/+108Dedicated servers and mods, please.
- HoriaRO1990, on 10/26/2009, -4/+72"Activision revealed last week that it will be charging £54.99 (roughly $90) for the standard edition of Modern Warfare 2 in the U.K., a substantial increase over the usual price point for major game releases. High development costs and a weak British currency were blamed for the hike but Pachter says the reality is something entirely different."
"The price increase is a business decision....Activision knows it has a 'hot' game, knows that the market will pay an additional 10 per cent, and has decided to increase price accordingly."

That and the whole dedicated server and modding community debacle...
I'll enjoy my Borderlands just fine thank you. - Ziriux, on 10/26/2009, -5/+64Meh i don't care for third person.
- VermiciousKnid, on 10/26/2009, -20/+78Way to steal an idea from the modding community, not give credit and ***** all over them
- BotaXero, on 10/26/2009, -2/+57I remember back when 3rd person peeking was considered cheating. And we had to play barefoot, in the snow. Uphill both ways. And we liked it!
- dolemite01, on 10/26/2009, -0/+40IW doesn't care about PC Gamers. - Kanye West
- michaelrsa, on 10/26/2009, -6/+45Honestly, while I'm disappointed that they did it I'm not surprised. They're trying to remove the inherent benefits of the PC version so that gamers will migrate from PC to console.
I know I'm going to get dugg down for what I'm going to say next.
This move may cost them over a hundred thousand sales in the short run but if they do successfully encourage people to migrate to the console they stand to make more in the long run due to the difficulty in pirating game for consoles.
Let's be honest here guys, piracy isn't exactly helping the PC gaming industry. For game developers and publishers the console is their safe haven where they can ensure they make a good profit from their investment. In the long run PC gaming won't die but the advantages it has over console will slowly disappear. - ghostrc, on 10/26/2009, -3/+40Where you shoot the enemy from their perspective. Someone make this game
- Harabeck, on 10/26/2009, -2/+313rd person vs 1st person can really effect gameplay. You can generally see a lot more of what's to your side and behind in 3rd person.
- SirFatalx, on 10/26/2009, -6/+35Not buying it. Does not change my mind.
- MageSTYK, on 10/26/2009, -6/+34Oh hell yeah, Sweeeeet! Just what I ***** wanted.
Hey IW what else you putting in?
What?..... No Dedicated Servers support?
Well then I guess I'm gonna pirate this game.
Argh Matey!
Time to dust off my hat.....The internet is my Sea and I'm a Pirate! - Ubergoober3, on 10/26/2009, -1/+28Blame it on Activision, it was their call not IW.
- bar10dr, on 10/26/2009, -8/+35No dedicated server == I'm not buying it, I hope they bomb.
- truthuntold, on 10/26/2009, -0/+26http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkECyz2KtU4
another copy - Super6, on 10/26/2009, -5/+29Actually my 24" 1920x1200 LCD monitor looks a hell of a lot better than your HDTV, which can, at best, show 1920x1080. Plus, my PC is actually capable of displaying graphics good enough to take advantage of all that. But let's break the cost down over 3 years, shall we?
Gaming PC Route:
PC - $1000 (this will get you a 6gb i7 with all the trimmings
12 Games (4 $50 games/year) = $600
Online Gaming Fee/Xbox Live - $0
Total = $1600
Console Route:
Xbox 360 Elite (release price) - $480
12 Games (4 $60 games/year) = $720
Online Gaming Fee/Xbox Live - $150 (3x$50 1-year subscriptions)
Total = $1350
So, in the end, over 3 years you would save $250 with a console, but this assumes that you don't need a PC for anything. You're using a PC right now to post on digg because consoles obviously lack a PC's functionality. You're probably going to want a PC that costs at least $500 to do things other than gaming, not only does this make the console route cost $250 more but you end up with a PC that's slower doing every day tasks. - inactive, on 10/26/2009, -2/+26I don't care for second person.
- Sogui, on 10/26/2009, -2/+24Well considering this was leaked and hasn't even been announced yet it would be REALLY hard for them to give credit wouldn't it?
IW: "We'd also like to thank the mod community for a new feature that we aren't going to announce for a while"
LOGIC! - ThaDRD, on 10/26/2009, -0/+22You're probably right. Activision wants to nickel and dime PC users for every little map and mod like it was a ***** Guitar Hero song.
- staffell, on 10/26/2009, -7/+27isn't that just spectate mode? I hope it is, because 3rd person would be wack.
- defteats, on 10/26/2009, -14/+32All the people that are saying they won't buy it, are still going to buy it.
- SuperOmegaSlack, on 10/26/2009, -0/+17God I hate auto-aim! It causes more trouble than it helps
- 3nder99, on 10/26/2009, -0/+16They didn't do it because they want us to move to Consoles. They did it so they could control everything. It is hard to charge for a ***** map pack with small maps built for console 4v4's, when there are literally hundreds of custom made maps that put IW's maps to shame.
Once they get IWNet going, the first map pack with be pay to play. Then when the next game releases, and everyone is used to having to give them more money, they will start charging a monthly fee to play online. Say $10-15, maybe more if Kotick thinks he can get away with it.
Personally I think this will all backfire, what Kotick doesn't understand is that COD4 was a direct result of IW listening to the PC Community that they are now losing. That community will go elsewhere, and other games will get that advice instead. While COD loses out on PC in the short term, in the long term they will lose out on console sales. Once a game comes out as the new FPS leader on PC, it won't take long for them to push into the console market and knock out COD. That is what happens when short sighted developers try to make a game for the "casual" player. All the innovation dies out and they end up like the Medal of Honor series, a mere footnote of what not to do. - potamkin, on 10/26/2009, -7/+23Third person sucks
- MageSTYK, on 10/27/2009, -1/+17"You bitches dont want to pay for The most anticipated game of the year and the sequel to the best-selling first-person action game of all time? ***** you, then...we dont give a ***** about PC Gamers,
Modern Warfare 2 will strike worldwide on November 10, 2009 on Xbox and PS3 and that's were we make our money pimp'n and charging mad money for DLC. You see Xbox and PS3 players they dont know any better. We put ***** out.... OUR WAY and they pay for it. Hahahaha it's the best pimpin i've done since high school."
- said Infinity Ward's CEO, Vince Zampella - 3nder99, on 10/26/2009, -0/+15Bobby Kotick, Activision CEO, said he wants to change how much games cost. He used Guitar Hero as his example, saying how what used to be a $50 purchase could be increased to a $500 purchase.
This whole move to IWNet is merely preparation for charging for all maps, and eventually forcing COD players to pay a monthly fee to play online. - AmazingSteve, on 10/26/2009, -14/+29"Cool. To bad I wont be purchasing this game after that whole no dedicated server announcement."
Yes you will and you know it. - ace429k, on 10/26/2009, -0/+14lol, until you see a car with its brights. You will certainly see them!
- damnshoes, on 10/26/2009, -4/+18maybe IW might give us dedicate servers to surprise us. =P
- MageSTYK, on 10/27/2009, -0/+14What the hell you talking about?
STFU, Stick to your xbox and keep playing with little kids. - travisMarc, on 10/26/2009, -0/+13Did no one here play Socom?
- hugekebab, on 10/27/2009, -1/+14This is clearly a desperate attempt by IW to get some new interest in the game following the recent dedicated server/insult to the PC community debacle. It's obviously an official 'leak.'
They are trying to change the conversation about MW2 through a faked leak. Pathetic. - scuba7183, on 10/26/2009, -1/+14Would that be you control your guy, but see through someone else, and you have to shoot your guy from that perspective... damn that would be weird
- wontstoptalking, on 10/26/2009, -3/+15Or perhaps the person is respawning and so has the view of a teammate?
Or perhaps it's getting a kick-ass theater mode like Halo 3?
Or maybe it actually is third person. I really don't care either way. - 3nder99, on 10/26/2009, -1/+13Actually it's 2 million Steve, and by bomb he means bomb on the PC, which it probably will. This game will be dead online within 6 months, don't get me wrong, there will still be some games, but it won't be anything like COD4.
Eventually the PC community will find a new FPS to gather in, and when that happens the game they decide on will become the premier PC FPS. What console players don't understand is that COD4 was actually heavily influenced by the PC modding community. Many of the ideas were straight out taken from modders. So when that modding community goes somewhere else, and that game gets all the attention, it will move into the consoles and Activision will be wondering how their COD franchise became a distant second best.
COD is the new MOH. - nuketrap, on 10/27/2009, -0/+12No dedicated support for a PC Game is like having a ***** console... I shall join you on your voyage to Secret Hidden Pirate Island AKA Hong Kong...
- elmundio87, on 10/26/2009, -2/+14yeah because the modding community created the concept of a 3rd person person shooter
/s - Spanq, on 10/26/2009, -0/+12How many ***** full page ads do I have to "skip" to get the article? Jesus Christ. Next time, just link to the YouTube video.
- phpirate, on 10/26/2009, -1/+13They should just skip the PC version to be honest, because they're not going to make much money if they have a reputation for pumping out half assed PC ports like Epic has. That's why it doesn't make sense.
And Piracy isn't what's causing nobody to buy games. It's ***** games causing people not to buy games, and then pirating it instead because they're not really interested in getting the online multiplayer or any other offerings the developer may or may not have. - Stumped, on 10/26/2009, -0/+11Here in Australia its $99 for the PC version and $119 for the console version. We always get gouged on the price even when the aussie dollar is close to the US dollar in value which it is currently. Can't even get it cheap on steam here its listed as $89 US.
- somnus, on 10/26/2009, -0/+11He doesn't care about 2nd person.
- InfectedTuna, on 10/26/2009, -2/+13As soon as I get my night vision goggles I'm driving home with my head lights off. Its going to be that kind of awesome.
- hellbent187, on 10/26/2009, -4/+15Screw Infinity Ward for no dedicated PC servers. They're not getting a dime from me. PC or console.
- Titan615, on 10/26/2009, -0/+10Don't forget the several thousand dollars for a nice shiny new TV. You can build a decent gaming rig with AMD/ATI parts for about 650-800 if you don't care about your case.
- LennyLeonard, on 10/26/2009, -0/+9I do that sometimes when i'm playing a multiplayer game with my friends in the same room and I can see their screen, its fun
- thenorwegian, on 10/26/2009, -1/+10I LOVE COD, and I loved modern warfare, but honestly, now that I found out about the no dedicated servers thing, I won't be buying this. And I'm not going to turn into the L4D2 boycotters that will. I will not support this kind of decision.
- michaelrsa, on 10/26/2009, -2/+11Spore
The Sims 2
Assassins Creed
Crysis
Command & Conquer 3
Call of Duty 4
GTA San Andreas
Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
Pro Evolution Soccer 2009
These were the most downloaded games of 2008. The only game I would not like here is Spore. People don't pirate bad games, they pirate popular games.
Even if Modern Warfare 2 had dedicated servers and mod support it still would be pirated like there was no tomorrow. - AzzX, on 10/26/2009, -2/+11Bought Dragon Age instead.
Modern Warefare 2 is US$90 for Aussies - A kick in the guts. - Super6, on 10/26/2009, -0/+9IW blamed "weak currency" as the reason for the price hike in EVERY country. If you have even a cursory knowledge of how currency works you would know that this is impossible, if the dollar is weak it has to be because other currencies are stronger would would mean that the games are cheaper than usual there.
