- angryemu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25So does anyone actually believe this? Remember last year at this time when Reggie Fils-Amie told us that Nintendo wasn't planning a redesign of the DS? We all saw how that one worked out...

Just block him and move on. - sampson123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18"At the moment, everything you might have seen is just looking at our experimentation back in Redmond, not really a product that we're thinking about announcing,"
Classic PR line. He never says that they're not releasing the HDMI 360, he just says he's "not thinking about announcing" it. - edge10, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19You definitely don't want to announce something like this before it is ready for market, as it will cool sales of the current unit.
Microsoft has deep pockets, but I doubt they made a new scaler and motherboard just to 'play around'. - MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Good point. At this point they probably don't want to piss off all the early adopters.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Sweet. I cant wait. The XBox360+HDMI will go in my Living Room w/ direct-download movies & IPTV and my existing XBox360 can goto the kids room.
XBox is sowing up the multi-media living room market. I'll say MS for the win here Bob. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9But you sure are going to need the larger hard drive it's supposedly coming with.
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why does at least one person say this everytime..
Put an end to the blend.. - sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This sounds like basic product marketing defense here. The pictures just have too much of a "final production" feel to them for me to think it's just something they're tinkering with. In the race to win the console wars this guy doesn't want people waiting to buy a 360 either.
- ToRoE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5you are not going to need the 360.2 for IPTV.
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11@ supporttruth:
***** you and your advertising. - GreySpec, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is probably what Apple would have said about the iPhone if it had leaked. Microsoft is just to scatterbrained to keep ***** together! ITS COMING
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Must... resist... failing...
4) ???
5) Profit!
damn. - isthisnametaken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Maybe they are saying this so people that were about to buy a 360 will still go buy it. I know if I were about to buy one and heard a new one is coming out in less than a year, I'd hold out.
- jedioniram, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If nothing else this proves beyond a doubt that it exists. So it's just a matter of 'when' now, not 'if'.
- TheJas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2at least they came out and commented on it instead of letting us nerds twist in the wind like apple
- zane411, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"for testing purposes only"
So is my modchip.. - Cytranic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Just flag the blog at the top. It will be gone in no time.
- svartgotik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well..why an HDMI port besides the a/v connector? I'm pulling this out of my ass, but that's got to be some sort of D/A converter in the cable you plug into the back of the 360 now, otherwise why would you be able to plug a TOSLINK cable into it? So wouldn't it just be as easy to make a HDMI dongle that plugs into that same proprietary connector? Also that HDMI port is IMO way too close to the connector, so it could be a prototype. Add a port on the board instead of going through the trouble of a cable. Or maybe they wanted a/b comparison switching. Who knows....
I dunno, but having that HDMI connector on a new console when you could pull off upselling a new cable with digital video and audio out of their existing port just seems to be too lacking on forward thinking for a company the size of microsoft. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
what do you think the current user base would do if MS upgraded the 360 tomorrow? I'd guess they would whine a bit (esp. here on DIGG), then go back to playing Gears of War :p - renegadeafk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5get a life and stop spamming your crackpot 911 "conspiracies"
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's bull. They spent the money making that chip, they're going to use it eventually. The only question is when.
- GoalieStr1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree. But look, they have to say they are testing it because they won't officially announce it until it is actually ready to ship. It's just poor marketing. If they say an xbox 360 v.2 is due out in July then guess what... all the sales would start slumping NOW. It's just how businesses work, and it is smart.
- FishyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would buy a 360 tomorrow if it had hdmi, quieter fan and larger hard disk. I still don't understand why people get angry if something gets upgraded. When Intel/AMD introduces a better chip, I don't get angry that the one I have is less powerful. Envyous maybe, angry no.
- Starship, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2so i guess that all of us with DVI-D monitors, like my 30 inch Cinema display will still have to wait for something with a DIGITAL video signal .... the future of game consoles .... and it's still analogue video .... good job.

Translation: Merry Christmas 2007!
This is going to be part of the knock out punch that is Halo 3 + IPTV + New 360 with bigger hard drive .
I don't think Sony even saw this one coming, but we did. Even if that system sucks butt, Gates and Bach know they are going to have to pull something spectacular to push sales this Holiday season. If they released this model too soon, the only thing they would do is completely alienate and tick off everyone who already purchased a system like me. How would fan's react if Sony had released the new slimmed down PS2 a year after the original? Knock it back another year, and you have a great chance of picking up new fans while giving incentive to old ones to upgrade. After all, all signs point at the new model being superior in every way to the old for probably the same price, whereas the only difference with the 'new' PS2 over the old was a slimmer formfactor. In fact, I would call it a downgrade considering the removal of the HDD bay that was later used for LINUX and Final Fantasy.
So in summary, if this becomes the new 'Premium' system for 399, and the current top end becomes the new 'core' model for 299, we are going to see some serious 360 sales after Thanksgiving. I think this move is genius. - guitarplayax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2WHY would Microsoft spend all that money developing the updated system if they weren't going to release it eventually? Even if they deny it, that just means they want to keep the hype down and then BAM one day "Oh, here it is."
Maybe they are worried about the updates place in the market as most of the nerds (including myself) have already purchased a 360 that costs $400 and wouldn't want to bother spending another $400 on a new one. PLUS who can seriously tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p AND most likely 99% of the people who own 360 don't own a 1080p television. - NeoRicen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Think about it, why test an HDMI Xbox 360 if you aren't going to release one eventually.
- Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Like "if" the tests and "messing around" they are doing don't satisfy them, then it won't be released."
I don't agree. If, after the tests, Microsoft isn't satisfied, they'll make improvements until they are satisfied, then release. - drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2damn that dude will not stop can someone please pay him some attention
- CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, the number one reason I want an HDMI cable is because my current TV doesn't have a VGA port and I want to upscale current DVDs to 1080i (which needs a digital path).
I'd also like to know I am safe should the movie studios start implementing the ICT or DOT in their HDDVDs. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there any way to block all posts that contain "ttp://diggrules24"?
I know blanket blockings don't work well (the guy i sit next to at work is from Scunthorpe, UK and keeps getting his emails home blocked!), but it's starting to piss me off. There are too many of them to do it by user... - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Will what blend? Microsoft?
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Gerz1219:
Those don't adapt to DVI-D. They physically adapt a VGA connector to a DVI-A connector which can be plugged into a DVI-A or DVI-I input. It will not work on a DVI-D input, which almost all monitors use.
Congratulations on ripping a guy a new one when he was even specific enough that someone who actually knew what they were talking about wouldn't find wiggle room to try to go at him. - ecorona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're just saying this so people won't wait to buy the HDMI version. They don't want sales to tank in anticipation for HDMI. They need to sale the older version of the XBOX 360.
- Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Envy is a more complicated emotion than anger, some people can't handle it.
- FullClip, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1Now that's just funny...
- ggriffit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1********* Oh, excuse me. I had something in my throat. Tasted kinda nasty too.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man i just got a new HDTV and i really want an xbox360. but I also want the hdmi!! I wish i would have just been left in the dark about this. Wait a year for bigger hard drive and hdmi or play now and want it later...
- jordan1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use a HDMI to DVI cable to connect my HDMI equiped HD Tivo to my DVI only Plasma.
- Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Or you could buy a VGA->DVI adapter for like $10 and enjoy 1080p gaming with hardly any noticeable difference in image quality. Your problem is that you don't like the word "analog", and enjoy fantasizing about imaginary visual improvements you think you're missing out on. I wish there was an HDMI version of the 360, just so I could subject you to an blind A/B comparison and watch you fail it.
- maxsquared, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a feeling, I think might even be Microsoft leaked the video, and see how public says, now everyone is complaining then they say it's just "test purpose"
- Pix869, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2No, it is also a matter of "if".
Like "if" the tests and "messing around" they are doing don't satisfy them, then it won't be released.
Plenty of things go into development and are scrapped. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe they don't want to make the people that already own a 360 angry... yet
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1In order to get the IPTV you'll apparently need to switch to AT&T's "Lightspeed" service. So, it first needs to be available in your area, and you might want to know how much it costs, and whether or not you are prepared to switch your ISP over..
The positive thing is -- the service gives you 35mbit bandwidth. - ncc1701, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@gxcdesign
You can get 1080p over component, too, if your TV supports it. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@WhereAmI
Idiot!
/Napoleon
G.O.M.D. with your lack of knowledge. - jamesthejust, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I don't think that even 1% of existing Xbox 360 owners would go to the effort of buying & fitting an HDMI cable even if they could.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Then what is the point of 1080p...I want to use HDMI not VGA
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Microsoft fanboys are becoming hilarious with the larger hard drive and HDMI rumors. Microsoft has now said, they have no comment, they say they have no plan of announcing anything. I swear if Microsoft said they weren't going to give everyone $400. Digg would get an article "MICROSOFT TO GIVE EVERYONE $400"
