- IheartZombies, on 10/11/2007, -12/+77Shouldn't he be spending his time doing more constructive things, liiiiiike, i dunno?...FIXING MY XBOX!
- DeathJux, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40"1UP immediately contacted Microsoft for a response, questioning the company's stance on ethics and policies related to executives interacting with the Xbox community. "
Are they that starved for content? I don't understand why this is such a big deal... people insult guy, guy fires back a canned, cliché come-back. Next! - Nutmegan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+31If it is him...so what?
- CajoleJuice, on 10/11/2007, -4/+28NeoGAF - where 1up gets its news stories.
- mikelieman, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25More importantly, he is DELUSIONAL if he believes he's doing anything "For Society". He's doing it for HIS OWN PAYCHECK, so his family eats.
Oh, yeah, he REALLY CHANGED THE WORLD when he was doing product work for Chrysler! - mrmacky, on 10/11/2007, -10/+29Jeff Bell... what is your contribution to society? It certainly isn't optimizing Windows or fixing XB360's.
I lol'd, but I highly doubt it's him.... Microsofties don't hang out on message boards... they still use BBS and talk about Linux and view ASCII pr0n. - Cipherr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Am I the only one who doesnt mind? I mean, even I am guilty of bashing industry guys when they do something I dont like. If one of them directly fired back at me for things I said, I wouldnt consider them out of line. I mean cmon. I think I might even respect them alot more. Perhaps this is just a difference in my personality. But I would love it if the internet were a place where the guys who are involved with the games we play could speak as they do normally, and not have to represent their bloody company 24/7. Whats the use of them bothering to post on message boards if all they are going to do is be overly political correct and stick to their companys PR lines whenever they post? We can do without that.
Meh. To me I guess this just seems like poking at someone over and over and over then gasping in horror when they turn around and punch you square in the face for bothering them repeatedly. You bad mouthed the guy and he fired back. Man up, reply if you want, and move on. - SlackerCS, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17Wow, some guy who may or may not be someone who works for Microsoft may have said something to some pimply faced geek on NeoGAF? It's times like these that I wish Digg had the functionality to send breaking news directly to your cell phone or pager. I could have had this historic bulletin 13 minutes ago!
- samdu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Also, NeoGAF - where 1Up editors go to post.
- Fatalah, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17I hope he accepts me as an XBOXLive friend.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+19that guy must have a pretty ***** self image if he took the time to respond to that.
- larsoncc, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11I know how those Microsoft guys like to cheat. Reggie Bush taught me that.
- LooterMcBeer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9The registration name of the poster says its him....................
since when did the registration verify that you are exactly who you say you are? Does ANYONE use their real name on a forum?
The writer of that article is a ***** - charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I think they think that if they say ninja enough times the 360 will magically start selling in Japan.
- darthtrevino, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Peter Moore did, he said so himself
- bobcrotch, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I think it's incredibly ridiculous to think that someone -- even an exec for a major company can't jump in on internet message board bashing, especially when someone is just being an idiot.
I know that our marketing execs watch the forums for one of our brands and sometimes participate in discussions, normally in that corporate neutral way, but still.
This isn't bad press or anything, the dude was being an idiot and i think it's awesome that he posted. - mattyice11, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Seriously. My 360 made it to the repair center in Texas on June 29th, and I still haven't heard a word from Microsoft yet. Not to mention that the box took 10 days to get to me.
I called support tonight, but they are "experiencing longer than normal wait times". and I don't feel like waiting for them all night. - jun2san, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Wow, sounds like Jeff Bell would fit in with the digg community perfectly.
- charlescheese, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8It's worse than that. He wasn't even going after "the press", just some random poster on an internet forum who was making fun of him. Absolutely hilarious.
- nigh7dagger, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Yes, an executive will be the one to fix your xbox. Dumbass.
- SavageBlackCat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Article should be titled "N00b has punk card pulled by HMFIC".
- EochaidRiata, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Are you telling us that you are not the real Looter McBeer?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8Well, what the ***** is Jeff Bell's contribution to society?
Bell holds a master’s degree in international economics from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. As an innovator in brand marketing at DaimlerChrysler, Bell led the launch of the Dodge “Grab Life by the Horns” tag line and its associated advertising, including the Hemi campaign and the Dodge and Aerosmith music alliance. He drove the formation of other key strategic alliances including Jeep and HBO’s “Band of Brothers,” Jeep and “Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life,” and Chrysler, Hypnotic and Universal Pictures, which created the Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival. Bell also pioneered new approaches to urban marketing, providing multicultural agencies with greater opportunities in the general market arena.
Jeff Bell is LESS than ***** useless, it's high-paid marketing jackoffs like him that are ruining society.
At least Ken Kutaragi was an engineer. - kelbear, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4You're an *****. Now smile and take it.
- TunaFishGangsta, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3So if someone could "figure it out" it was him by the username, then they someone else could forge it as well.
On the other hand, if 1up.com could see that his registration email was jeff.bell@microsoft.com, and that he registered from an ms ip range... that would be more interesting, but not much more interesting. - Tobor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It is and the mod who confirmed Bell's identity was de-modded and an apology issued.
- locodude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You only have to look at the picture of Jeff Bell to know that he's a lamer. He's probably never even played "God Of War". Geez, what a dork.
- SirBriggs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's the SN of the guy who was insulting Jeff Bell, not Jeff Bell.
- painkillr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2only a complete wussy and insulated suburbanite ***** would say that PM could be described as a call out
- Sarawanan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Geez.. 1up, step up to the plate and do some real stories and none of this garbage. Sure, this COULD have been an MS exec., but who cares. He was just pissed off and like alot of other people he responded in this manner.
- VodkaAvenger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3His contribution to society? Calling his ass out.
- tdous, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Maybe he has. Is that funny?
- formulathree, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3
Only a piece of trash like 1 Up would report a false story from a site filled with people that argue screenshots all day long. - StateofMind09, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What is your contribution to society?
- Sacrifice, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I believe this is the presentation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veu-kwdAH9Q&NR=1
Not the greatest presenter for sure. - Salgat, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Its a shame people have to b*tch and moan when a dev or rep actually interacts directly with the users. A lot of people rant on forums, and I certaintly don't mind him doing it, even if it is a bit pretentious.
- justice7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"longer than normal wait times" ... haha yeah, it ALWAYS says that. So i think they should remove that notice because it ALWAYS takes that long. It is now the norm.
- kelvinator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Jeff Bell..he does look like a lamer don't he?
- NecroSexy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This reminds me of something...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ACGbvkLzI4
- justice7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1no kidding, more execs should step up and put morons in their place.
- bshock, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Heh. That's pretty good. An exec from M$ -- a marketing exec, no less -- challenging someone on his "contribution to society."
Dude, you're with the M$ criminal cartel -- at best, your contribution is not getting any better than zero. And you're in marketing -- granted, that doesn't qualify you for the lowest circles of Hell, but you should still start getting used to the smell of brimstone. - nplace1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The point of the story is that a Microsoft exec MAY have gone out of his way to send a childish insult to some forum poster. I realize the irony of writing this in a Digg comment, but a good chunk of the discussion on gaming forums is incoherent *****, and there are a lot of childish things said. The story is that it does not bode well for Microsoft that Moore's replacement is even responding to whiny forum rats.
- Niffer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey, good luck buddy, mine's been in there longer than that. 0_o
- generalloy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1http://lists.essential.org/1998/am-info/msg01529.html
Steve Barkto all over again.
"
Rick Segal is an overt on-line Microsoft representative who is quite
active on CompuServe. If you signed onto Will Zachmann's Canopus forum
about this time last year, you would have seen him there resolutely
trying to improve Microsoft's image. Today Rick is in self-imposed exile
from Canopus following an extremely embarrassing episode which has
become known as 'The Barkto Incident.' " - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2And your contribution to the console gaming community is..what?
- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The massive failure of the Xbox 360, Vista, MS Live, the Zune, and numerous other MS knockoffs of superior products has made MS execs a little touchy lately.
Yes, I am enjoying every minute of seeing these bastards finally get what they deserve.
I just hope it teaches them to stop trying to screw over consumers and the rest of the industry. - formulathree, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Contributer Guy, I for one loved your E3 presentation. You represented the White Man can play football and that he can talk ebonics.
- frygar, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3So let me get this straight: this new MS exec gives a ***** presentation at E3 then snaps on an online forum when someone calls him out on it? EARTH TO DOUCHEBAG - your consoles aren't doing so hot, maybe a little less *****-talking and more xbox-fixing will keep the pundits from being pissy. Just a suggestion.
- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1He looks like a jerk.
- mikelieman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Hey, cut the guys some slack. Since they took out the Wyse 150's, they have to reboot Windows every so often!
