- bias, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50this is how digg fanboys spin everything into ***** if it's involve Microsoft.
if it's linux/apple ad they'd say it enhances SportCenter. - liquilife, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34I thought the same thing. We are force-fed commercials for anything we watch. Hell, I visit Joystiq.com and I am force-fed about 5 advertisements. No Joystiq, I don't wanna hear your bitching and whining about what is advertised to you while trying to find a way to NOT look at your field of adverts on every page.
- finbec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Force fed? My DVR eats commercials for breakfast...
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Sportscenter was sponsored by Xbox 360 last night.
/crap i didnt mean to reply - Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -2/+16how do i become so cool - do you have a book i could buy or something
- dylanrush, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I dunno, I think I'd rather watch a 7 minute commercial than 7 30 minute commercials. I'm sure the move wasn't completely spontaneous, that is, they probably planned out every commercial. They will probably have some kind of 7 minute short film with some kind of plot. I think that's 10x better than

HEAD ON: APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD!! - dgritsko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's not a solid block of ads, it's spread out over the whole show.
- bkeller81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8yeah, look at the date of the article, yesterday
- noodlez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7who cares? microsoft can afford it, and they understand that they do a lot of business with their sports games. its not like they're forcing the hosts to wear xbox hats or recreate all clips in their respective xbox game rendering engine.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is the biggest step I have seen in a long time that pushes TV back to the older style of advertising.
- LR2_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6People do not realize the importance of ads until they have their own website and/or tv show. Producing media can be fun and cheap if you are an independent developer, but when it comes to distributing it it becomes very costly. Using adblock is fine, just don't be ignorant about how important ads are whether you click on them or not.
- bias, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10yea you got tired of them so you started stealing.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Who cares, good for Sports Center, good for Microsoft. Don't watch if it bugs you so badly. Life is too short to sweat stupid ***** like this.
- ulcards2033, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Have you been away from digg for awhile or something? Go look at any sony article, they get just as much blind hate as Microsoft. Replace sony with Apple/Nintendo though, and you will be 100% correct.
- RamanujanRedux, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Whooooo carrrrees.
- cardoso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I really want to see how fanboys like the submiter do, in a hiring interview.
- eddieo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I recorded it to see what all the talk was about.
This is the first time I EVER used my Tivo to specifically record commercials, unless you count the SuperBowl of course. - dygel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm pretty sure they're talking about seven minutes total, not seven contiguous minutes. The latter would constitute an infomercial rather than a commercial and that much contiguous airtime (ESPECIALLY during SportsCenter) is much too valuable for ESPN to sell off as single block.
- FlakPyro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@ulcards2033 i guess i worded that wrong by foaming at the mouth i ment rabid with blind hate, was trying to comment on the giant Sony witch hunt that seems to be all the rage these days.
- madpuppy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3OH MY GOD! a company bought commercial air time!
who cares if they bought a little or allot? that is what TV is for generally "advertising" .
getting all weird about something like this is ridiculous!
if you don't like it get upset at the network that created Sportscenter, they sold them the spots!
I wonder if Apple bought these spots what kind of articles we would be seeing now?
Headline: Apple LOVES Sportscenter so much that the paid for yesterdays show in full by purchasing all the ad spots!
I can see the posts now "I heard Steve Jobs loves SC", " OH, I had to change the channel in between the Apple ads, the SC spots were so long they were painful!", I am glad that I have pip so I could watch something else while I was waiting for the Apple show to come back on!!"
Hey, just for the record I am a 100% Linux user and NOT a dual booter!!
er...I also own an Xbox 360 :P - KMartSheriff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Im pretty sure I saw one of the ads because it was about 7 minutes long (just the one commercial) and it was for the 360. But it was actually a very good commercial, not what you'd think! Check youtube for the commercial
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ dylanrush
I think I'd rather watch a seven minute commercial than seven 30 minute commercials too!!! - kirk06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How about...LAST NIGHT?
The article is clearly dated. - dylanrush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The people who would normally block ads are not the people who would click them otherwise. Even if you tolerate but dislike them, you are not doing any kind of service to the website / station by looking at them.
Now if Internet Explorer adblocked, or some box was able to pull it off with live TV (and able to mass market it,) that would be a different story. It's Joe Shmo that needs to see those ads. - FlakPyro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I just want to point out that if this was Sony you guys would be foaming at the mouth by now...funny how that works huh
- tdawg148, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1all i know is the first commercial last night sucked - cops and robbers?
i think it was around 2 min. long - least it felt like an enternity - antifreeze11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dont think it would work so well. if i was watching tv and a commercial was just unusually long, i would change the channel thinking it was a god damn infomercial or something.
- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Its usually Sony who sticks alot of their ads in sports.
- sissipher, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That is why I don't watch Sportscenter anymore. The show, espn, and in general their website are horrible. They are supposed to be the world leader in sports. Why the hell do I want to be force fed baseball and NBA basketball? Thank god for other sports outlets.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1And the people watching will be the same people that buy Madden every year and the same people that think they don't want a Wii because they didn't care much for the Gamecube...idiots...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1...
- spiritamx79, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3last night huh?
what a shame i missed it. =/ - isasusinfinite, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Heh, the above two comments (bias, finbec) are missing the point. The point the parent is making is that the submitter seems to be implying that just because the ads are all bought by the same company, they are being 'force-fed' by that company. The parent is saying that it doesn't matter whether the ads are from just one company or from all the companies that normally purchase ads for the spot. The people who watch the show are still 'force-fed' the advertising, no matter who it is purchased by.
liquilife: You mean you still see advertising that you don't like? FireFox has an AdBlock extension, you know... - killn00bz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2and i thought their 2 minute commercials were too long. this is really overdoing it but i kinda wanna see how it goes.
- rarkai, on 10/12/2007, -20/+3This is why i get all my tv shows from torrents and i use firefox with adblock plus. I hate ads. I know ads pay for shows and sites, but *****, i get tired of them.
