- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -40/+446He's not being a troll. As soon as a kid turns 14, he will want an Xbox360.
What he failed to mention is that as soon as the kid turns becomes an adult, he'll go back to wanting a Wii. - therobd, on 10/12/2007, -14/+289Yeah, Xbox owners are so much older. I'm gonna go back and play some racist 12 year olds on Live now!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -30/+268Yeah, he was kind of being an arrogant little prick. However, even die-hard Wii fans cannot possibly deny this statement: “We don’t feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing.” This is exactly correct.
- Xbox 360: For American hardcore gamers with intense interests in PC-style gaming and multi-player, who take their video games very seriously and easily justify the cost inherent in supporting such a hobby.
- Wii: For varied people in the mainstream, more interested in using video games as fun diversions than a primary source of entertainment, thus being very happy that the console is affordable and most games are of the pick-up-and-play variety.
You may disagree with one or two finer points of my description, but you can't possibly disagree that the two consoles are meant for two completely different consumers with two completely different notions of what video gaming as a hobby is all about. These consoles are NOT competing with each other. If one is outselling the other, it merely means that the audience for one is larger than the audience for other. It does not mean that one is cannibalizing the same exact consumers from the other's demographic. - Mewchu11, on 10/12/2007, -14/+210As soon as they turn 14? What is this, logan's run?
Life day! Renew! - SeBBBe, on 10/12/2007, -19/+160I completely disagree with everyone saying that 360 and PS3 are for different audiences than the Wii. I'm a hardcore gamer and first and foremost I prefer the Wii. I also like the 360 a lot. And I'm also an avid PC gamer. I'm a big Nintendo fan and I really like their games and innovative input methods and I think that, while the Wii appeals to audiences the 360 and PS3 dont, the Wii still appeals to a lot of hardcore gamers. No, it doesnt support HD, no, the online isnt good, no, the graphics arent stellar. But who can recognize and appreciate great gameplay if not hardcore gamers?

BOOYAH - chucksmooth, on 10/12/2007, -7/+101i have both consoles, does that mean i don't really exist?
- desigeek, on 10/12/2007, -15/+93***** ! I am 39 and still play with my Wii.
- mdnash, on 10/12/2007, -8/+76you are the result of an anomaly that occurs within the coding of the matrix that only happens once every 400 years and...ah forget it, matrix 2 and 3 sucked
- CheezIt9109, on 10/12/2007, -12/+70What the ***** is the deal with describing the MS and Sony consoles as "Hard Core" or for "Hard Core" players?
I'm tired of hearing this *****. Define "Hard Core". Do you mean children who have TIME to game more? Do you mean skilled players - and further, do you mean naturally skilled, or skilled due to hours upon hours of playing the game? It's an incredibly retarded qualifier, and it needs to be trashed.
I've been playing games on the PC and Consoles for a very long time. I've had a hell of a lot of experience in competetive gaming, and have even suffered an addiction to one such game a few years back. I browse gaming websites whenever I have free time, and play as often as I can (sadly, I work, have a fiance, need to keep up with tennis, and am studying for an MS, so not as much time as I'd like). Am I not hardcore because I don't play 4 hours a day, despite the fact that I would absolutely demolish 99% of the players using the word "hard core", in their game of choice?
Oh. I own a Wii. I game on the Wii and the PC. Personally, I have *FUN* playing games on the Wii. While I play on the PC, it definately satisfies my need for competition and recognition, but it's oftentimes more *work* than fun (work as in needing to concentrate more, pay attention to the smallest details, predict where players will go, etc etc).
Personally, I have *no* interest whatsoever in the Xbox360 or PS3. Does this mean I'm not hardcore? Or does this mean I prefer games on the PC and Wii?
>:-0 - Nytemare, on 10/12/2007, -9/+61I love playing with my Wii. It feels good to play with my Wii.
In all actuality, I'm 28 and really am having a great time with the Wii. It's just fun. Something that I feel like Microsoft and Sony missed. We've got 4 remotes now and when all our buddies come over, it's a blast. - Kyderdog, on 10/12/2007, -15/+62More like:

PS3------------------------------------------------------X - Recoil, on 10/12/2007, -15/+57Yeah... cause you HAVE to be under 14 to appreciate games like Zelda and WarioWare. Talk about misconception. This guy's totally sinking to Sony's level, insulting their competitor's customers.
- seamoon, on 10/12/2007, -8/+50Well it looks like these 'kids' will soon be shivving people on Manhunt 2.
- sigsegfalt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41When I turned 14, there was no way in hell I could have shelled out $479 for a gaming console.
- Tweedy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+45Anyone that thinks they are hard core gamers because they have a XBOX 360 are sadly mistaken. When you put down $1,400 for a pair of video cards for your PC you are a hard core gamer.
The XBOX360 is faster than the Wii. Big deal. Modern PCs run circles around the 360. Just because you have the middle slowest console out there doesn't give you anything to talk about. Guess it's better to be a poor loser than just a loser. - dmason, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38Wii envy.
- hipnerd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36Remember to keep a firm grip -- otherwise "accidents" may occur.
- niradg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38...and as soon as that person turns 18, he or she wants a Wii again.
so you tell me, what's a better market? ages 0-14 & 18-80 or ages 14-18? - TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32The funny part is while many Wii owners are adults, a large part of the Xbox crowd are 13 year old kids yelling commands into their headsets. Who is sophisticated again?
- Goken, on 10/12/2007, -9/+38Oh no I can't believe Mircrosoft wants to act like Sony just because their console is doing good. If they keep this up the Xbox 360 will start getting flamed just like the PS3.
- Thuktun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27After all, insulting potential customers is always the way to make more business for yourself.
- aliengoods, on 10/12/2007, -14/+40All I know is my friend who has a 360 and PS3, and loves them both, wants to play Rapala Fishing, Bowling, or Tiger Woods Golf every time he comes over to my place. They must have done something right.
- birch25, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32@johngardiner; i don't know about you, but my girlfriend rolls her eyes whenever she sees my 360 but she's always up for a game of wii bowling or some warioware.
- tsf5000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Sounds more like jealousy.
- NipGrip, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28So MS indicates Wii owners are 14 year olds.. By using cutdowns that 14 year olds would use.. OK, TERRIFIC.
I see the market the 360 is aiming at as the most immature of them all, ironically, and it's got nothing to do with age, but the average mindset of the XBOX player. Have you *been* on live and played HALO against random XBOX owners and heard their language? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+29At 37 years old, I think he has it exactly the opposite. The Wii is simply *more fun*. Case closed.
- bobpaul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21@insinuate
The PC fits all of those categories. Or are you forgetting about computer Solitaire? - WanderLink, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27Way to shoot down that Wii60 demographic Microsoft. That's the way to sell. I have a Wii, and I'm in my 20's.
- Netmindstorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18"...customer turns 14 they want something else"
Yeah, they want someone else to play with their Wii as they are tired of playing with it by themselves. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19They only make these disparaging comments when they get worried :p
- Veight, on 10/12/2007, -16/+32@ilyag
That's retarded. I have both and I like them both equally for different reasons. The fringe customers of each console might be different but I think the majority are after the same thing. He's just mad that the Wii is going to pass the 360's sales numbers before Christmas and he's slinging ***** across the highway because of it.
I wish these console ***** would shut up and talk about their own products instead of slinging crap at everyone. They looks like immature brats when they're doing it and they look like idiots in the future when they're proven wrong. And they always are. - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I waited in line for my Wii, and I'm 25. Of the people there, very few were younger than 20. Very few were older than me, and those that were, were parents getting it for their children. That kind-of puts a damper on his guess, and pretty much insults me. Damn it, MS, if there's one lesson you SHOULDN'T take from Sony, it's how to do PR.
- Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Has he never tried xbox live?
- adraft, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Go outside? The 360 manual tells me not to expose it to the elements.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Manhunt 2? Now there's a game to be proud of having on your console.......
- mcnappy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20@Mewchu11
You made my day with the Logan's Run reference; I just spent 10 minutes cleaning up the coffee I spewed everywhere after reading that. - lbmouse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15“We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14 they want something else.”
Hopefully they want something besides planting their teenage fat-asses on the coach for 20+ hours a week in front of an Xbox. Go outside, get some fresh air and exercise, do some charity work, read a book. - onixxino, on 10/12/2007, -17/+29An over-exaggerated statement has it point though: Wii is fun, easy to play, and everyone loves it... but for more sophisticated graphics and hardcore gamers, they need something else. And so "We don’t feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing" is a true statement.
- Pureeviljester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I'm 21 and i have a Wii and it's really fun cause of the multiplayer stuff. And my family really enjoys it when they come over.
P.S.: the older generation really do get into it. A bunch of my aunts were playing bowling and tennis. They wouldn't even let me play! >_< - jrieth50, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Ok, well, I'll be sure to pass on Microsoft's next console then since I happily buy games for both my Wii and 360. Hardcore gamers, you've got to be kidding. In all honesty - I bought an Xbox when Halo 2 came out because the FPS online gaming on PC wasn't as much fun for me anymore. There are other great games, sure, but I was never compelled to pick up the system until the 2nd Halo was online playable. I picked up the 360 for the same reason, and got the extra gift of Gears of War thrown in while I wait for Halo 3. Hardcore gamers (a category that does not include the racist 14yo Live prick in his mom's basement high on pixie sticks and Mountain Dew at 4am) play Nintendo games, because Nintendo's 1st party games and consoles have practically invented the gaming market that we all know and love today, and there games continue to be ground breaking, as do their consoles.
Sony and Microsoft have never had an original thought in their respective lives. Sony got in the game by putting a half-way decent CD-ROM based system on the market at a time when Nintendo was being stubborn, but despite their 3D graphics chipset, they had no clue how to develop a game that used it until Nintendo showed them how (Mario64/Goldeneye) - which is why Sony had to add an analog stick to their controller down the road. Microsoft crapitalized on the fact that systems were becoming more like PC's and released the Xbox that EVENTUALLY got online play right and added a HDD that the other two didn't have. Wow, innovative. MS's $4bil losing Xbox would have been an $8bil losing Xbox if they hadn't done 1 thing right - buy out Bungie Studios 6 months before they were going to release Halo as an exclusive FPS for Apple.
I'll keep buying great games as they come along for whichever system, but for Microsoft or Sony to delude themselves into thinking they're even on the same playing field as Nintendo in terms of their influence on the video game community past and present is just PR-speak and its sad their are so many morons out their that call themselves gamers that fall for it. - Jerim, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13@drlha
That is exactly what I was going to say. When we hit 14 we all gravitate toward what we consider "adult" and away from kiddy stuff. Are tastes desire something more grown up, in our view. However, once you hit your late 20's and life starts taking a toll on you from family and work, you just want something fun as an escape from real life. When I was younger, I was big Nintendo fan. When I got up into my teens, I gravitated more toward Sega, and their "attitude." Then in my early 20's I gravitated toward Sony. Now that I am approaching 30, I find myself just wanting to have fun. Killer graphics may be "cool" but I have played plenty of gorgeous looking games that just didn't help me escape the real world. So although Microsoft may be the preferred choice for about 15 years of a persons life, Nintendo has the other 57 locked up. - theragu40, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@ilyag
I disagree. I suppose your argument that they are 'directed' towards different audiences is somewhat true. However, it makes no sense to say that the Wii doesn't appeal to 'hardcore' gamers (whatever the hell those are). Are all the people who camped out in the freezing cold to get a Wii somehow less hardcore than those who camped out for the PS3 or the 360? What if I own both a 360 and a Wii? What if I play them both equally and enjoy them both equally? What if I tell you I bought the Wii first? To say that the Wii is for younger people is a very broad generalization, especially considering that the Wii was showcased at the NAARP convention. And for the record, I found that the people in the lines camping for the Wii were on average quite a bit older than the people in lines for other systems I've camped for...non-Nintendo launches included. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Yeah, a 'fact' that he pulled out of his butthurt ass.
- surasshu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I'm not sad I bought my 360, because I think the Elite it's overpriced and for not that much of an improvement. Then again I haven't filled my 20GB HDD nor do I have a TV that supports HDMI, so maybe I'm not the "elite" Microsoft is targeting.
However, I do get kinda annoyed at these kind of remarks. I do have a Wii60 here so maybe his insult just WORKED, but seriously. Nintendo is for kids? Wow. Was this guy up all night trying to come up with this?
What annoys me is that I already gave these ***** my money, AND defended their console in debates, and now I feel sort of like I'm associated with their *****. You're making me look bad, Microsoft! And I TRUSTED you! - FrogKermit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13I'm 19, and I bought a wii, and i love it. The 360 has dead rising and gears, which makes it appealing; so hopefully they don't talk ***** like this again and maybe I'll go wii60.
- tuffy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Microsoft has changed their tune now that they realize their biggest competition will be from Nintendo and not from Sony.
