- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -5/+62The Xbox 360 can now play...... Sega Gamegear games!
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48I wouldn't be surpsrised if they release some Halo related info or clips or whatever when the PS3 launches. But how can they take the spotlight away from the Wii? For gods sake, it's called the Wii!
- shortkid422, on 10/12/2007, -13/+54That won't be hard considering the PS3 will squash itself.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41But... But... But wild, unfounded speculation is FUN!
- OperatorNo9, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41Not a whole lot of content to that article but I'm sure that we'll make up for it with wild fantasy gueses and baseless speculation.
- Rigbymatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39without unfounded speculation the internet would be a very different place
and apple would not exist - contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27The 360 can't play GameGear games, it's not nearly big enough. =P
- BlackNute, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Nor would the tubes we so heavily rely on!
- VenDrake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27>> This industry never gets old.
Oh it gets old alright; it just never grows up. - gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27paperboy ftw
- raltschwager, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27Perhaps an attachment that will give it killer 32-bit arcade quality graphics, 16.7 million colors (though it will only use 512 simultaniously) and 3D gaming abilities?!!
Or maybe a 6-button controller?!! Maybe how about Mode 7 scaling?!! Could it be "BLAST PROCESSING"??? Could it be a modem for online play?!! Maybe they will add a processor to each game to give it SuperFX??!
This industry never gets old. - skywake, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24becuase we all know how well microsoft's Voice Recognition works.....
*cougth* - rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21No, we need both MS and Nintendo to be intact, so if Sony's ps3 fails and discontinues their PlayStation line, there is still competition. Without competition game prices would jump past the already high $60 point.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18The only thing that can steal the thunder from the Wii hype is if MS takes the price of the 360 down to $199 for the Christmas season. Period.
- Dogtown7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17The problem is that Bill Gates doesn't have any chest hair
- gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14If PS3 fails, Sony won’t just dry up and blow away. I hope they would rethink some of their questionable design decisions and come back in a year or two. All the players know that total victory could have a downside for the industry as a whole.
Competition and conflict spurs innovation, that’s why they are all trying so hard. Can you imagine what the PS3 would cost if MS and Wii were not nipping at Sony’s heels right now.
Let’s face it, the “Console War” is good for business. - Toon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22I have a few ideas as to what they might surprise everybody with.
At the center of each and every new Xbox 360? A lock of hair from Bill Gates' chest.
Tony Hawk performs live on microsoft.com and MSNBC, the first Xbox 900.
A new controller with a speaker that offers positive reinforcement for those frustrating games. "Hey, cheer up, Buddy. Sure you can't beat the boss, but your hands are very soft and they smell terrific."
The MiiS3. It takes all of the revolutionary concepts that you love about the Wii and, well, the letter S and number 3 from PS3 and combines them into one super-machine.
The announcement of the XBox 369 for the immature gamer (or the ones that love counting by 3s!).
Clu-Clu Land 360.
Cutting edge technology for chat over XBox Live which turns every whiny 13-year-old voice into a drunk chick who "Totally wants to come over and, like, do you. Because, seriously, you sound way hot." - gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12From a business perspective, the 4th quarter is the time to establish themselves as the best bargain. Microsoft knows it’s not going to win any popularity contest, they have to overcome years of negative fanboy attitudes about their operating system. They know they have to deliver a clear bargain over the competition to come out ahead.
Microsoft has a half dozen potential killer apps in the works and increasing flexibility with pricing. Sony and Nintendo are looking down both barrels right about the time they release. Nintendo has much less to worry about as Wii and 360 are not really competing for the same market. Sony on the other hand should be real nervous about now.
It will be interesting to see how they will try and make the 360 irresistible to anyone still sitting on the fence. - gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I have had every model of the IPOD that’s come out. It could be better, but Apple hasn’t had any real competition.
I want an MP3 with a replaceable battery, Bluetooth 1.2 the size of a Nano with a decent online component. Apple has been holding back, Perhaps Microsoft could light a fire under them.
Love Competition - moondog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@oGmo "Whether I buy a PS3 now at $600 or a PS3 next year at $300 is irrelevant."
If you are holding your breath until the PS3 is 300 dollars then you might run out of oxygen.
"The only reason the 360 would ever interest me is if it suddenly acquired a massive commitment for exclusive games from JP developers. Castlevania, Contra, Final Fantasy, Grandia, Growlanser, .hack, Katamari, Kingdom Hearts, Megaman, Metal Gear, Persona/Shin Megami Tensei, Suikoden, Wild Arms."
Are you japanese? - Leprenomichaun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Gates said that, and bungie laughed it off almost immediately.
- walterd93, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Nintendo isn't going to be bought and microsoft isn't going to be bought....so...
- fudigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The reason Japanese gamers don't care about the 360 is because they prefer RPGs over FPS games. No Japanese FPS team has ever topped an American team of course.
However, the reason Japanese people prefer RPGs over FPS is because RPGs require no skills and just tell a good story.
In a FPS there isn't a leveling system to make your character stronger and stronger. It's all skill based. Whereas an RPG is all time based. You can achieve anything in a RPG with enough time and a walkthrough.
Now, not all asian countries prefer RPGs, just Japan. In Korea they have the most skill intensive competitions in the world. Being a top Starcraft/Warcraft/Counter-strike player there is equivalient to being a celebrity. - eurocrisp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Hey dont knock superfx!
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11One word: high-definition waffle-iron attachment.
You read it here first. - Boor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Is it just me or other then the title was there no other mention of the Wii or Ps3... Microsoft are just saying that they arent going to sit idle, which would be safe to assume they are going to do anyway. This use of the consoles names just to get diggs is really starting to get annoying.
- the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13"Dear Aunt, let's set so double the killer delete select all."
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Well.. if you're talking about MY preference...I've been WAITING for Metroid Prime 3. It's already well established that I'm a Wii fan (NOT a "fanboy".. there IS a difference)... so I'm buying a Wii no matter what...especially since it comes out (supposedly) a week before my B-day. (Bday present to myself. :D)
You have to admit, though. If MS decides to at least lower their price to the Wii's price, they will DESTROY the PS3. Then it will only be a fight between Wii and 360. Think about it. - ActiveMatx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Don't you guys know???
Their is no trick up Microsofts sleeve.... its the old marketing trick! You make a announcement like this, right before the PS3's release, to ward off potential customers. Those who are on the fence right now between xbox and ps3, will have to wait a few more months, instead of pre-ordering or deciding on the ps3.
If you dont have anything to show in a poker game, you pretend that you do.
They are gaining customers, by doing actions like. this. Sorta like Intel with their announcements of how much Conroe was going to kick-ass before they released it,..... (except in this case they were right). - pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I would guess some big time Gears of War adverts coming, beside MS has some great lineup of games coming out around launch time for both systems
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Here's my prediction: A motion sensing controller that will be heralded as an amazing innovation, but due to "interference" is unable to contain buttons.
- jggr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Halo 3 is slated for Q1 2007.
Just so's ya know. - Kev585, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I used to feel that way, till I bought a 360 and experienced X Box Live.
- skubiszm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What do you mean? Everyone know they are releasing Duke Nukem Forever exclusively for the Xbox 360.
- spitfire6006006, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11microsoft has already sort of advertised for the wii, they were saying how you could buy a 360 and a wii for the same or less than a ps3
- sliderocity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Two words: Mass Effect. Best-looking game at E3, and it's by Bioware, and it's on 360.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm really excited for
Mass Effect
Splinter Cell
Tony Hawk's Project 8
Fable 2 (I hope it turns out the way they promised Fable to be)
Japanese RPGs that have men that look more like women and would suck away my life for 60+ hours doing the same battle sequence over and over and over again would make me want to beat the face in of the next Sony fanboy that argues that every Final Fantasy game since 7 is different. They're all the same, just different characters and new backgrounds. - spitfire6006006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4xbox already did the free game with a console thing (im not saying neccesarily a good game, but...)
- jhurliman, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Maybe they will add voice recognition technology to the 360, ported over from Vista?
- mozzer, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11the correct term is PS3 Implosion
- Stwo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sakuraz: "360 looks like it's been designed for American gamers...
not hardcore gamers..."
What makes you think just because I dont like unintelligible plotlines and childish looking characters I'm not a hardcore gamer.... If you put in 4+ hours a day after working 12.... every day..... you are a hardcore gamer.... The types of games you play doesn't make you a hardcore gamer.... Your love for games does. - jggr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Indeed. Saw that game, and that all by itself has almost convinced me to get the 360.
So very very pretty.
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/masseffect/index.html?q=mass%20effect
Check it. - a1532b, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15Why fight the Wii, microsoft? Now would be a great time to form an alliance!
You could have....Nintendosoft! or...Microtendo. ......Actually, that would suck > - SpacePirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Absolutely. The only way Microsoft is going to get my money is if there are good games for their console. Period.
- SpacePirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3$199 PREMIUM. With an extra controller. Throw in a free game, and it'd be golden.
Of course, I'd also recommend dropping the price of the games, but with the development costs required to produce these so-called "realistic" games, plus the console-tax MS and Sony implement to recoup their own costs, this is far from likely. Maybe someday one of these companies will release a console with less power and a smaller development cost, and let the game's design dictate the amount of fun you can have?
Psh, like that would ever happen. - NerdyNinja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@sakuraz
You realize that Halo is considered a hardcore game... and that no foreign team has beaten whatever the top American team happens to be at the time, right? Does that mean it's not a hardcore game, now, because Americans can't be hardcore gamers? I don't get your logic here.
And I wouldn't be suprised if we see more Final Fantasy games on the 360 than the one they have on it now. If Sony were to wise up and make Square do a remake of FF6 and FF7 for the PS3 exclusively, then I might consider buying the console. Otherwise, the PS3 has nothing exclusive (Assassin's Creed wont be exclusive) that I want to play except MGS4, which will probably come out for the 360 anyway with more features. So, when my roommate gets a PS3 for Christmas and MGS4, I'll beat it and have avoided paying $700 to play one game.
And Microsoft wont lower the 360's price to $199, whoever said that. I wouldn't be surprised to see a mild price drop alongside the release of Halo 3, though... I kind of doubt H3 will be ready in time, though. I know they have a playable version, but I just can't believe it's anywhere close to release candidate yet. And considering how much testing they would (and should) insist on, seems kind of tight. - spitfire6006006, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4nah, it may be the last halo, but i don't think it'll be the last one in the halo universe
plus, why wouldn't bungie be involved? - supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If they release keyboard / mouse support for HALO3 then they win. And exclusively PC gamers lose their major advantage against consolers.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Halo 4!
