- JFetch, on 10/12/2007, -8/+72They are misleading on that chart when they say that Microsoft forces you to buy a hard drive, HD-Dvd drive, online access, ect. Microsoft doesn't make you buy anything you don't want.

That choice is inherently obvious: Sony
Microsoft has cleaned up their act in the past few years, there is not much to hate about them anymore. But sony, do not get me started about them.
In closing, ***** sony - aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -21/+631) You're an idiot (to the initial poster)
2) I never thought I would say this, speaking as someone who was a Sony Fanboy from PS1/2/PSP...
GO MICROSOFT! - rot97, on 10/12/2007, -10/+53Wow, this must be tough for most diggers... who to hate more? Sony or Microsoft??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+48I don't know why, but lately, Microsoft has been doin' all the right things, kickin Sony's ass, TRYING hard to develop good games on their platform, making Vista Bitch proof. GOD DAMNIT, Microsoft might just leave one hell of a legacy, like Gates is leaving.
- latova, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39I like xbox but I hate windows. Just because you don't like one product you don't have to hate the entire company, just don't buy what you don't like.
Besides, by getting an xbox im just putting microsoft further in debt anyway ;) - TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38I don't think that's microsoft saying that stuff, I think that's the internet
- UNSCleric, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32 Xbox’s Director of the Game Technology Group, Scott Henson, had his doubts about Sony’s claim that PS3 games will feature ‘full HD’ (1080p resolution): “I think 1080p, just to address that directly, will be basically impossible. I think if you talk to any developer they will tell you that they will not have a performing game at 1080p.”
In fact, I’ll stick my neck out and predict that that you won’t see any 1080′x’ games for the PS3 this year…” And later in his blog: “As to games, 99% of PS3 titles will natively render at 720p; the few that come out with 1080′x’ support are either going to be simple classic arcade ports that don’t need to render complex scenes (think the original Battlezone), or will give up a lot of in-game visual effects and simply won’t look very good
What he said is true, even the developers of PS3's flagship title, Resistance: Fall of Man are now going for 720p instead:
http://www.unscleric.com/news/2006/10/20/ps3s-flagship-title-now-running-in-720p/ - shrewduser, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30according to engadget, if you calculate the cost of everything in sony's chart, but instead of buying the base system, you started with the proper system... the total cost only comes to $399
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -11/+35How about instead of 'remembering' you post some sources ?
- kf6zql, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24The difference is, politicians can't be sued for liable or slander in a campaign against other politicians... Sony can and will be sued.
- SuperMank, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26At Sony, giant enemy crab damages you!
- rishid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20I cannot wait till all the consoles are out .. so the fan boys are busy playing instead of flaming.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Clearly no one in Sony's legal department saw that sheet. You'd have to be out of your mind to ***** with Microsoft like that, especially when you're a direct competitor. MS is just protecting their product, good on them.
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Wow, I never thought I would be saying this... But this is the first microsoft lawsuit I absolutely support.
- decay, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21No one is ready for 1080p anyway :0
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17You'd think after years of mindlessly bashing Microsoft like a good lemming you would've refined your comments to be a little more eloquent than "Micro$oft sucks."

4. Fact: Xbox 360 + Ferrarri F430 = $168,404 (Ferrari Required)
7. Fact: Zune does not work as rear view mirror - tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15In Soviet Russia, you mislead propadanda!
- SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Sony's response to Microsoft's response to Sony's *****:
"Through our comparison chart we are not implying that you must purchase the myriad of peripherals and add-ons that Microsoft offers to play your Xbox 360. You don't. However, if you want to attempt to come close to the performance of the $499 PlayStation 3 by using your Xbox 360, Core or Premium, you could only do that through expensive add-ons -- that is what our chart is demonstrating. Once you add it all up, it would cost you more than our $499 unit, and you would still not come close to everything we offer, ie: free multiplayer gaming, 50GB storage capacity of Blu-ray disc, Blu-ray disc player for games AND movies, processing power of the Cell Broadband Engine."
Take from that what you will. All I take from it is that this Sony guy is a ***** prick. 1. "attempt to come close to the performance of the $499 PlayStation 3..." This guy sounds like a manipulative jerk. 2. "you could only do that through expensive add-ons..." I'm sure Sony's opinion of "expensive" is unbiased /sarcasm. 3. "processing power of the Cell Broadband Engine" The "Cell"(broadband engine, if you use Sony's fancy-sounding hyperbole) is unproven when it comes to unbiased opinions of it's usefulness in making games. The Xbox 360 CPU has garnered much more praise from 3rd party developers as far as power and ease of use is concerned, while all the positive comments on Sony's side are FROM Sony: "BUT TEH CELL IS TEH FUTRUE! IT'S XBOX 1.5! BY OUR COSNOLE!!1!". Sony should try to NOT look like a bunch of ***** suckers by not treating the fact that they use a DIFFERENT processor to be an ADVANTAGE. - SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I'm very sorry for the double post, but this was definitely worth showing:

Sony has put this propagandist FUD in PRINT! - netdroid9, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12He's right. Microsoft IS exploring new markets. But take a look at Sony. Games consoles, televisions, music, et cetera. If Microsoft can offer Sony some competition, I'm all for it.
- Cruelapollo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Ooh, ooh! Is it hoodrat?

- NYC10004, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11SONY should be very afraid. Opening themselves up to a lawsuit right before launch by purposely posting that fictitious content?!!
If SONY wants to get crazy and talk *****, fine! However, this is just insane.
Fact: Microsoft has some of the best lawyers on the entire Planet.
SONY might as well commit ritual suicide. - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9yeah, dam microsoft, exploding all them markets
I dont like the games market exploded, pump it full of rootkits and leave it at that, thats why I love $ony - sigma419, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Oh, yes. Microsoft is evil, and Bill Gates' $5,000,000,000 donation to charity is solely to further the work of Satan.

A stupid blog or website, like the OFFICIAL Xbox 360 forums, run by Microsoft themselves? - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10No matter how hard the anti-Sony diggers act to Fahrenheit 451 me into oblivion, the facts are simple. Look at the websites and do the bare minimum of research:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/
http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/default.html
The Xbox 360's price is logarithmic and the PS3's price is linear. The lower you go on the "miscellaneous desired stuff" scale, the better the Xbox 360 price, the higher you go, the more attractive the PS3 is.
It's so simple as to be laughable that people are still having this argument. There is no argument you can have about the price that will change the hard numbers both companies have provided. You can argue about what you personally want in a system, but that will not change the value of the system for someone else.
The core system is $300. Xbox Live Silver is free but has no multiplayer. The Xbox Basic system is $400 but only comes with Xbox Silver, a 20 GB HD and a wireless controller. Xbox Live Gold is $60 a year. Xbox 360 has no HDMI. To get HDMI you need a $200 HD-DVD player. Do your own math, but the system is as expensive or as inexpensive as you want it to be.
The PS3 basic is $500 dollars but it comes with all of the above included. Again, do your own math and the PS3 is as "ridiculous" or as great a value as you want it to be.
Either system can be a smart investment and why no one even allows the possibility that different systems can be good or bad for different buyers escapes me. Why would you encourage someone to pay more for a system that has a bunch of stuff they don't want? Why would you encourage someone to pay more for a system that has a bunch of stuff they could get cheaper somewhere else? You people need to start acting like gamers and get with the program because it's in our best interests to get the best gaming for the best value, not to prop up the market artificially by spreading half-truths. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Question: Was this in any way sent out from Sony to stores, or was it just leaked?
- DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I'm going to take both sides here. I realize Digg is full of Sony haters, so they'll outnumber the defenders, but here goes anyway.
First of all, the way Sony advertised that chart is VERY wrong, and I am not surprised that Microsoft is considering legal action. That is pretty misleading and I'll be interested to hear of the verdict if they do sue.
HOWEVER. That chart is not completely wrong if they changed it to something like "Required to match what the PS3 gives you." (or something similar, you know what I mean) In that case, it is pretty close, and it's something most people don't consider. IF you need/want all of the stuff that is included with the PS3 (HD movie playback, built in wifi [expensive model only, not even included in chart], hard drive, etc.) then it's worth noting that the PS3 and XBox360 become very close in terms of price. Now, Microsoft offers users a choice. That is also a very good thing. It's obvious this choice comes at a cost, but so be it, at least there is a choice.
For the people who know that they want all of these features, the PS3 is a perfectly legitimate alternative for them, and suddenly the PS3 doesn't seem so expensive. Obviously it works the other way. For those who aren't interested in HD movie playback and the other features offered, looking at price alone the 360 is more competitive. Of course, then it all comes down to games you want to play.
Surprise, in the end, it's all about choice. The PS3 or the 360 will be a good choice if it has the games you want to play. Period. I know that eventually I will probably end up owning all three systems, so I've just given in to that fact from the get go and am seeing the positives of them all. Anyway, my two cents. - plnegative1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Is there an external link to the chart? The original is apparently experiencing the digg affect.
- Ollin, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16Digg has turned into the battle of the Fan boys. Its getting quite annoying that in every Wii, XBOX360, or PS3 story submitted just turns into a flame fest.

Cell's claimed advantage is on streaming floating point work which is done on its seven DSP processors.

Microsoft's Matt Lee - you'll never see a PS3 title with more than 256MB of textures at any given time,
I can post some more when I get home from work. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My 360 eats DVDs standing upright(literally, i've had a DVD come out in 2 seperate chunks, on top of the numerous DVDs that have come out scratched to hell), laying down its fine though.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6wow..... I dont think anyone can survive a long legal war with MS..... too much money
- gwolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Sony’s about to get a rude awakening because that marketing speak doesn’t cut it in court. They made their false and misleading claims in writing for all the world to see and that’s what they will have to defend. Explanations of what they meant to say will be meaningless only what they actually said counts.
Ordinarily competitors temper their marketspeak in a way that’s defensible. These kinds of mistakes suggest Sony is coming un-glued from the inside out. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Just a fanboi post on a forums board. There is no official word that MS is preparing legal action.
Marked as inaccurate. - omababy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6article quote "The only way you’d end up paying the amount they’re adding up for the Xbox 360 is if you’re trying to waste money."
So basically what their saying is that your wasting your money buying xbox. Goodness great debaters batman... - goffy59, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Or someone who worked at the company said this on his own. 1 employee doesnt always speak for an entire company that has thousands of employees.
- BamB00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How about the $100 HDMI cable to play BR/HD-DVD movie? If 360 comes with expensive add-on accessories, so are you SONY!
- Hurricane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yep, my cousins 360 killed out 2 days ago, it was 2 months old and they had babied it so that it wouldnt die on em.
POS machines. - SuMizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It is not a leaflet for Best Buy sales people. Did you make that up or something? That is some made up *****. Period. It was shown to the press during E3 2006 justifying the price of the PS3 by comparing it to the 360 core and Wii. If you look through Gamespot or IGN's archived E3 2006 coverage, you'll find it.
- latova, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@wtf00: I agree. If windows had more popular competition they'd likely buckle down, but they hold the monopoly so they don't have to, however, I use ubuntu so they don't really matter to me either way.
For as long as nintendo, sony and other random competitors stay in the console market, Microsoft will innovative. - halosniper7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6i LOVE microsoft, but ready? im still waiting on my fifth 360 to come from them (all the others broke).
when i get a working 360, ill say they're ready. but, what the heck, go microsoft. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The suit'll never hold up in court, it's obvious that Sony made the chart to compare what a similarly powered piece of hardware would cost, not the bare minimum. Only an idiot would think otherwise.
- SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I tried to come up with a Yakov Smirnoff joke, but I can think of anything damnit!
- freemdoom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5If you don't support Micro$oft, then you don't support our troops.
