- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -11/+38It probably doesn't suck too bad, since statistically most of the people who own a 360 probably don't have an HDTV. And also, statistically, many of the people who do have HDTVs probably only have a max resolution of 720p, which component supports. So reality HDMI isn't that big a deal for the majority of the public; it really strikes me as a jab at Sony and more fuel for the fanboy wars than something consumers are truly clamoring for.
To be honest, I really hope this model results in a price drop of one or both of the original models. There is no way I can justify another 80 bucks for just HDMI and a bigger hard drive. Unless there are other features I'm unaware of? - sachmul, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34Sucks for Shawn Hargreaves who just lost his job
- pixelate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20It always sucks with early adopters because they always think they're entitled to *****.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22yeah because it was a big secret... pffff.
- aceman118, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Microsoft has said it a million times. There are no plans to put an HD-DVD drive internally. If you are waiting for that then don't hold your breath.
- spoiled1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13My cable box was connected to my HDTV with both component (Monster Cable) and HDMI cable, and when I switched from component to HDMI, I could clearly see the difference in picture. HDMI picture is crisp and has no ghosting.
- Xanrez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10This is because, unless your DVD player is a Blu-Ray or a HD-DVD, the source is NOT 1080(anything). Your DVD player is simply displaying the picture as well as it can, regardless of the cables being used. The 360 and it's games are written for native 1080 display, and as a result will benefit from the better cabling options.
- danc4498, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10This really proves nothing I think. Just because the guy works for MS, doesn't mean he knows if an HDMI port is coming. He probably knows that no matter what the output type, your program will stay the same. Basically, he was commenting with common sense rather than inside information.
- lukychmz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Im waiting to get one
- Darksaber11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Your right, you do look like a fool. It isn't April.
- GlitchEnzo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I want to get the Elite because it runs cooler and it comes with a 120GB hard-drive, however I don't have a TV with an HDMI port. Will it still have the original output port so I can connect via VGA or Component?
- dMinor04, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11how do you suppose most people who have a 360 dont have hdtvs?
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Then stop being an early adopter?
You've gotten over a year of gaming out of the system. That has to be worth something. Not to mention the Elite version is apparently going to cost $80 more than the premium version.
I'm sitting in limbo waiting for the right time to buy a 360. Do I buy now or wait for the regular premium to get HDMI? I wish Microsoft would stop being so hush hush about this. I'd like to make an informed decision. - lukeamotion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7lol @ denial
- Phoenixus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So..why is no one complaining of microsoft milkage? If sony or nintendo released a better version of their console, you guys would be all over that like white on rice.
- keithmcbride, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"To be honest, I really hope this model results in a price drop of one or both of the original models."
Predictions seem to suggest that this is only a very temporary release. By the end of the year the Elite will become the Premium and the Premium will become the Core. Basically, a price drop - mathewjm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Sony has positive press? Where have you been the last week when launches have bombed worldwide?
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Sucks for Shawn Hargreaves who just lost his job"
Why would he lose his job? Anyone who has used XNA will know that the actual display output format has nothing to do with how you code your game(aside from supporting different resolutions and aspect ratios). He didn't actually confirm anything... He's basically saying "if the 360 has HDMI then it won't require any extra work". - DEEP_NNN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good point. I still don't believe there is a production model called the Elite or that there is any new production model that carries these new features. It's still too premature in my opinion. The best way to beat Sony PS3 right now is to drop prices. Nothing more is required until December 2007. Then bring out a "new" premium, loaded with great features and dump the Core.
- notoriouscub, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11I own a launch 360 and feel no desire to upgrade.
- nklnch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can tell the difference between VGA and DVI on my PC. HDMI is even better than DVI. 1.3 has larger bandwidth, higher color bit depth, and both RGB and YCC color space support. Also, reviewers are raving about the improved lossless sound quality on certain Blu-Ray/HD-DVD movies and even a few PS3 games.
Sure, "most people" don't need any of that. Most people are probably are fine with a Wii or a PS2 or a GameBoy and plain old DVDs (or VHS). But tech buffs and gadget hounds want all the extra features and quality. - graemee, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9When it runs XBMC
- ateoto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It looks like it will according to the images found here. The HDMI just sits underneath the current A/V connector.

Yes. Most certainly a photoshop(!) - Barnolde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The fact that there was a revision coming with HDMI built-in broke over two months ago:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Exclusive_360_HDMI_Proof_HR_Pictures_and_Video_HANA_Scaler
It's expensive enough at $480 with no wi-fi and if it doesn't have the new cooler 65nm processors (which were already delayed once), it still won't be worth it. I hope they fixed the d-pad for the black controller. - Allanon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My HDTV which is a Sony only allows 1080p over HDMI. Can only get 1080i or 720p using Component. So HDMI is a welcome feature.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does anyone know if the X360 has optical audio out?? It would be really bad if they neglected that a lot of people have TV's with HDMI but that most surround sound receivers don't.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think your logic is flawed. They are not changing the system, to where, there will be new games which you can't play. You knew what you were getting, when you bought the original console. Now that there is an upgraded one, there is no reason to complain about them doing so.
Do you complain when Sony releases upgraded TVs, after you already bought a Bravia?
Seriously, I can understand feeling like "damn, wish I had waited." But if you feel seriously pissed off and think Microsoft is wrong to release an upgrade, which won't alienate games from the original systems, then you're just being silly.
No person, or company can be screwing you unless they are __taking something away__ from you. And in this case, they aren't. - radiofrequency, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Great. Another paid upgrade to the "better, cheaper" xbox 360 to allow it the features already bundled into the base PS3.
- TPrime, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Well supposedly the Elite will have IPTV built in, i.e. timeshift recording, and that's exactly something I'd pay an extra $80 for. But that's just another rumor.
- tacroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Check through the comments again. Every time something like this is posted about the HDMI model there are tons of "M$ is screwing us" comments.
- lukeamotion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Does anyone else not really see HDMI as a big deal?
I mean I bet you can't tell the difference between 1080p / 5.1 surround sound on Component and Fiber Optic, and 1080p / 5.1 surround sound on HDMI.
Sure it's a little less messey. But am I missing the boat here? - lukeamotion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sure you can use the old cables with the new 360 so yes it will have optical out.
- DEEP_NNN, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8The "No changes required." comment could be a very honest reply for a reality where the 360 does not have HDMI output.
I.E. "No changes required." because it has no HDMI port.
I'm only expecting an announcement for the 120GB hard drive and that is all. - aceman118, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yes.
- JoE9o0o, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I would like to know if they are going to allow for the Dolby TureHd decoding. If so then i would really think about upgrading to the elite.
- animefx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Does anyone know if it will HDMI 1.3?
- 2smooth4u, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Sounds like yet another fanboy comment. A lot of people are not buying a BluRay or HD-DVD player until one is chosen as the preferred option for DVDs........
- mystictoadgames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What everyone fails to realize is that the new 360 is supposed to have the smaller chip and run a lot cooler which might make up for the 3 red rings of death that a larger and larger percentage of 360 owners are discovering as their 360s crash and burn and they have to spend an extra $140.00 to have it repaired. (myself included.) Maybe Microsoft will offer some kind of trade in and appease the xbox community that are about to leave.
- livester, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Not so useful, but... sweet!
- Inverno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Sure having a year + of gaming is worth something; but the question should be 'Is it worth more than the depreciated value of the console?'
If the IPTV thing works like we all hope it will, and they sell the larger hard drive for ~$150 (which wouldn't shock me.. I'd actually guess it'd go for quite a bit more) than many early adopters will trade in their systems. I'd guess Gamestop pays something like $150-$200 for used systems. Is a year of gaming worth $200? I remember the 'good old days' when $200 would buy you a console that'd last an entire generation. - Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I own a core 360 and have no desire to upgrade
unless it has recording/time shifting capabilities - DarkPrince11, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Whats the highest resolution that component supports? I have a 1080i and my games look great through a component cable.
- jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2component does the job just fine
- snowbusiness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0My launch unit(free from the every10minute contest) died a few weeks ago. I might hold off on getting a new one to wait for this. MS wants me to pay $140 to fix mine anyway, and that wont give me any kind of extended warranty, so i'd rather wait and get the hdmi.

I think a lot of people are going to look pretty stupid a week from now. Including people like me who waste their time replying to nonsense rumours like this. - gharding, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9Yeah, and if you end up wanting a next-gen drive, you'll be spending more on the 360 than you would on a PS3. Aren't prices supposed to be going DOWN?
- faz9, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Dugg for "proof.jpg"
- deepmenace, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2this is a fairly serious revision if it happens, even more so if the HD is upgraded to 120gb.
in fact, would i be right if i said it was unlike any other console revision step ever?
i hope it is not a glimpse of things to come, but, for the microsoft side of things, i think it will be. -
