- EvanVolm, on 10/26/2008, -8/+62It's a shame they killed the original Xbox so early.
- SDavees, on 10/26/2008, -8/+61Replacement systems won't be covered in these numbers, just original purchases
- vrikis, on 10/26/2008, -16/+67Not really a huge surprise.. They have been outselling the PS3 even in Japan now with their low low current price. Keep going and give me the NXE :)
- FatLoser, on 10/27/2008, -6/+54i couldn't afford it even if it was half that. I can't afford anything :( I still play heroes of might and magic 2 and masturbate to gif porns because my internet is so slow
- sampson123, on 10/26/2008, -10/+55The launch systems are still under warranty.
- ChrisLawes, on 10/26/2008, -12/+52I love my xbox360!!
- truspector, on 10/26/2008, -10/+38Yes, people frequently throw out broken electronics that are still under warranty just to repurchase them.
Idiot. - CyberSally, on 10/27/2008, -4/+32The new $199.99 price definitely helps.
- tbredofsin, on 10/27/2008, -4/+25That's not going to happen, but the 360 will still land squarely above Sony this generation, I think.
- truspector, on 10/26/2008, -5/+24Exactly. The PS2 really only sold about 40 million. The rest were replacements sold because Sony wouldn't own up and fix the DRE issues for free.
Idiot. - citizensnips, on 10/27/2008, -0/+17dugg up out of pity
- matt.rubin, on 10/27/2008, -0/+16gif porn is amazing
- TheGuruStud, on 10/27/2008, -5/+18Tons of people were stupid enough to repurchase them.
So, you can probably take off a few million for the morons. - casbboy, on 10/26/2008, -4/+17Especially at the console's new price.
- enantiodromia, on 10/27/2008, -9/+22most of my friends have all three consoles, and here is how they are all used:
Xbox360: Games
PS3: Media player (movies, pictures, music source)
Wii: Paperweight - ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -5/+17I finally got a 360 in October and love it. Before that I had only owned the Wii, which I also love. I've finally gotten my fix of first person shooters, Grand Theft Auto, and more... but I realized that the demographic switch between casual and hardcore is a lot more apparent than I thought. My non-hardcore-gamer friends and their girlfriends came over and couldn't play Halo 3 for more than 10 minutes before getting sick of it. Then we all played our usual Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wario Ware, Smash Bros., etc. and had a great time :) But I think the Wii 360 combo is a perfect one to have.
- zarcu, on 10/27/2008, -2/+13I know people who repurchased because the extended warranty was not in place at the time. I also know one guy who throw his into the wall when it broke cause he was so pissed.
- edstate, on 10/27/2008, -5/+16It's a great system... why not?
- BedPost, on 10/27/2008, -1/+11I loved my Xbox. He was so damn reliable, and always had a bunch of great games ready to play (with killer graphics!). Best console I've owned, IMO (n64 comes second, I liked it that much).
- roxgod666, on 10/27/2008, -10/+20Nothing worse than the first comment coming from a complete douche
- cyrix, on 10/27/2008, -2/+11That was really really lame.
- inactive, on 10/27/2008, -2/+11You have to send it in. Its not hard and only takes a week. Just waiting for it to be fixed or replaced might take a while.
- Ajajadude, on 10/26/2008, -9/+18That's what I don't understand: since they're counting SHIPPED consoles, does that include the consoles they ship to places like Gamestop who has their own replacement programs who would then have a need for extra consoles? Last January, I brought my 360 into a Gamestop to get it replaced under their warranty program and got a brand new one that was undoubtedly counted as being shipped by Microsoft. So, would that mean that I'm 2 of those shipped 360's?
- crownedgriffin, on 10/27/2008, -5/+14I figured they'd have done that already. The XBox was popular, but it wasn't anything special. I'll be impressed if they can surpass the PS2.
- Georgy, on 10/26/2008, -17/+26enough already, its old and doesn't exist and your not going to get dugg up for mentioning the rrod
- Mackofalltrades, on 10/27/2008, -0/+8Heroes of Might and Magic 2 is amazing.
- superfuxxorr, on 10/27/2008, -2/+10no fears. microsoft will still replace your redringer 3x in 3 years.
- enantiodromia, on 10/27/2008, -3/+11only if you like playing games
- zoydberg, on 10/27/2008, -5/+13xbmc is still the standard for media center software imo
- robbiedo, on 10/27/2008, -1/+9I love my third Xbox360. I loved the other two, but it was not meant to be.
- inactive, on 10/27/2008, -1/+8I did. Over paying to get an inflated sense of self importance is way better than being able to play games
- Dantetheinferno, on 10/27/2008, -0/+7Sonic911, I regret to inform you that you got trolled.
- batshitcrazy, on 10/27/2008, -0/+7nope, entertainment industry always does well in a recession/depression.
- fuse13, on 10/27/2008, -0/+6lol holy crap kneejerk reaction what.
- hektur, on 10/27/2008, -1/+7Yeah their low price, game selection and the fact that the holiday season is right around the corner is going to sell alot of consoles.
Infact, even as a huge PS3 fan I really want to pick one up. - Jones82, on 10/27/2008, -2/+8What a fat loser
- tbredofsin, on 10/27/2008, -1/+7Microsoft never cared that much about HD-DVD, which is why it was a peripheral and not built into the system.
- Jones82, on 10/27/2008, -7/+13SNES > PS2
- yeah329, on 10/27/2008, -1/+7@djruden
thats not what he was saying at all
nice try though - enantiodromia, on 10/27/2008, -0/+6TwoLOUD: "How does it [ps3] not have good games? You a Xbox fanboy, stfu ya ***** queer."
either you don't know what fanboy means, or, you don't know that you are one. i guess both are true. - chaosblade77, on 10/27/2008, -1/+7Unless you are storing media on there, is more than 20GB really necessary? I'd just pay the extra $20 for the refurbished 20GB hard drive rather than $100 more for a 60GB, but I'd also just use it for game saves and some XBLA games.
- Elranzer, on 10/27/2008, -1/+6The original Xbox was such an advanced system, ahead of its time (even though the internal parts were dated by PC-standards, even at its release).
I still have mine hooked up, and not just for homebrew (though it does get its fair use of that too). Many original Xbox games that I play still are not 360-compatible (Shenmue 2!!), and I prefer playing Fable and other 360 compatible games on the original hardware.
We can thank MS for making hard drives and ethernet a standard piece of equipment for game systems (kinda ironic though that the HDD is optional for the 360). - BrashesVoucher, on 10/27/2008, -0/+5I 100% agree... The 360 is for me and MY time, the Wii fits perfectly with every one else.
A great combo - but I don't think I can wait until Nov 19 (Aus) for NXE, hurry up already! - inajeep, on 10/27/2008, -1/+6Yeah. most of us moved on from that. I had two that had no issues although I bought later. I enjoy they hell out of my 360s and the games I play on them. Sorry your life sucks so much.
- cjnkns, on 10/27/2008, -9/+14I luv my xbox :)
- iofthestorm, on 10/27/2008, -0/+5Well now they're offering a $20 or $30 refurbished hard drive for those with the hard drive-less systems, or something like that, which is pretty cool on their part, although it still doesn't excuse the fact that their regular prices are ridiculous. If I were to buy a 360 I would definitely get the Premium or whichever is the base model with hard drive.
- inactive, on 10/27/2008, -0/+5Since when is good business a backdoor contract?
- MadTom, on 10/27/2008, -3/+8I signed up to test the NXE early, it looks pretty cool other than the fact avatars are a Mii clone
- mweflen, on 10/27/2008, -1/+6I wonder, in all seriousness, how many still work? I'd be interested to see Microsoft's numbers on that. And I doubt I ever will.
- watership, on 10/27/2008, -1/+6They killed the xbox because they didn't have rights to the hardware and were losing hundreds of dollars per system. The 360 was their savour.
