Metal Gear Solid 4 - another LOST PS3 exclusive, coming to Xbox 360!
noooz.com — Straight from a dev source on the game, MGS4: Guns of the Patriots will be hitting 360 a few months after the PS3 version, simply because Konami doesn't believe there'll be enough consoles out there. Blu Ray diode failure appears to be the issue that publishers believe hinders market penetration.

- mrwiggl3s, on 10/12/2007, -49/+17I didn't like the last 2, but this is just a slap in the face to sony
- kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -66/+24Whoever believes this is an idiot.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -54/+24I'll believe it when I see it. Konami has never released a new MGS (meaning not a remake like they did for the GCN) for any other consoles. However, it would be a smart business decision for them to do so, so I wouldn't be suprised. But still, this is just a big ass rumor, b some stupid ass blogger. Don't get your hopes up 360 fans, this is probably not true.
- Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -59/+16*** Warning -- Dissenting opinion follows ***
I've always hated the Metal Gear Solid series. The entire series seems to have great gameplay, a nice sense of cinematic flair, and the stupidest plot elements ever to grace a video game.
I mean, here I am, I want to get immersed in some covert spy action. But then I have to sit through some ***** cinematic about robot anime fandom. Or some boss asks me to put down my controller so he can make it shake. Or the whole plot turns out to be a dream inside a simulation inside a creamy nougat center.
In other words, the game designer takes great joy in breaking your immersion at every opportunity. It's sadistic. This isn't a serious game series, it's a parody of one. - daeyeth, on 10/12/2007, -48/+15This is *****. Bury this plz.
- Radionesiac, on 10/12/2007, -29/+128"Konami has never released a new MGS (meaning not a remake like they did for the GCN) for any other consoles"
So how do you explain my XBox copy of MGS2: Substance? - aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -6/+65>>Whoever believes this is an idiot.
True, why would this exclusive news go to "Noooz" which isn't even a gaming site, much less anybody reliable. Honestly they offer no proof or any legitimate information to back up their claims.
Also, this whole story reeks of this incident on digg:
http://digg.com/security/Story_about_ps3_recall_is_bs - Cruelapollo, on 10/12/2007, -21/+29@Radionesiac
You explained it to yourself right there, Metal Gear Solid 2: SUBSTANCE.
They added new content and features, it wasn't a completely new addition to the Metal Gear series. - Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24Sorry man, but Substance wasn't the original MGS2. It came out after, and was a re-make with more content. not saying it wasn't great, it was, but I was correct in saying all the newest additions in the MGS series have been released for Sony consoles.
http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=55468
from the sound of things, Hideo Kojima has no intentions of bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 to the Xbox 360. Or any other Metal Gear Solid game, for that matter.
Kojima told Official Xbox Magazine that he feels the Metal Gear series is "made for for PlayStation platform." While his development studio, Kojima Productions, is working on Xbox 360 titles, these will be all-new games that are set outside of Metal Gear -- that's according to Computer and Video Games magazine. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4Which means they could very well re-release MGS4 on the 360 with MORE content than on the PS3 like they did with MGS2 on the Xbox....is that what you're saying?
- aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54Here is another "exclusive" from Noooz.com:
Time Crisis 4 to be PS3 launch title
http://www.noooz.com/archives/2006/01/time_crisis_4_to_be_ps3_launch.html - Reap, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6except substance was for PS2 as well.. you fail.
- TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4I find it hilarious that more than half of the comments on this thread are dugg down. Let me join the fun!
- cell00, on 10/12/2007, -10/+29Sorry for the reply abuse but this is interesting information regarding Nooooz.com that you should know and not my personal opinion:
Nooooz were the first ones with Assassin's Creed not being PS3 exclusive. And they also had a newsarticle mentioning that the European release of the PS3 might be pushed back to March 2007, this was in JANUARY. So they do get some good stuff. - Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -12/+13@Ignignokt01:
Kojima did say that MGS4 would be PS3-only. On the other hand, Konami has other plans (such as profitability).
This isn't the first time this rumor has popped up. - xymor, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Although Kojima has said numerous times MGS4 will be ps3 only, I'm 100% sure it will be ported to 360 IN THE FUTURE, several months or maybe years later.
- elqboy, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8when i see it on a site like IGN or so, i will believe it, otherwise no!!!!!!!!!!!
I getting my ps3 anyways so i dont really care. - Diggtatorship, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Mark my words: Sony will NOT loose another PS3 exclusive EVER! Sony FTW
because they wont have any to lose ;) - jd5alive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1that is the sound of PS3's last breath...
too many problems killed the machine.
no im not anti sony. i own one of their consoles. dont even own an xbox or 360 or Wii.
no Wii yet at least... still trying to find one. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Would be lovely if this were true. All that would be left to lose is Final Fantasy XIII and Sony could officially retire their gaming division.

- Alphanumber, on 10/12/2007, -15/+7While I do not believe Sony is crazy enough to let go of MGS4 exclusivity, Sony has proven that they are crazy, time and time again.
- BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18Well they let GTA and others slip...this wouldn't surprise me much with the amount of exclusives they have lost already. To me, they need to stop relying on their brand name loyalty and bring more to the party in terms of games.
- hibachipenguins, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42Sony does not own the rights to the Metal Gear series the producer just made the MGS series exclusive to the Playstation console. If you remember there was at least one metal gear on the NES and Gamecube and maybe a few more that were off of Sony consoles that I don't remember. The developer would make this choice based off what is in their best interest.
- gconeen, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5hey, sony still has final fantasy 13...that will come out in 2009...
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+29I'll believe it when I see a press release.
- peterberry, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9To extend what hibachipenguins said there were two NES Metal Gear games. They were Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge. I have them both. There was also the release of Substance on Xbox. It's believable that Konami would release it on the 360 as well.
- peterberry, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I don't believe this source though.
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Why would this be a surprise to people? The last two MGS games had versions released for the Xbox. Why wouldn't Konami release number 4 on the 360?"
Yeah, no...that's a lie.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance came out for the Xbox. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snakeater was a PS2 game. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence was a rerelease for the PS2 alone. Konami decided that the XBox wasn't worth the effort of releasing another MGS game for that system for one simple reason ... the controller.
In Metal Gear Solid 2 for the PS2, all of the aiming, leaning, and tiptoeing was done with the top four buttons. The Xbox controller has the same NUMBER of inputs as the PS2 controller, except instead of two extra shoulder buttons it has two extra thumb buttons. Fine, Konami said, we can adapt to that by using the left stick's ability as an input to switch to first-person view and using the black and white buttons.
Unfortunately, enter MGS3 with its shoulder-aiming and CQC. The Xbox controller was already using all of its buttons except one (the right-stick press). Shoulder aiming requires a button of its own, now, but CQC requires something the Xbox and Gamecube controllers lack -- analog thumb buttons. Depending on how you pressed the buttons on the PS2 controler, you could quick-draw, drop to your belly, jump to your feet, grab an enemy, hit him with a punch-kick combo or pimpslap him into submission.
The extra button (L3) used for First-Person shooting on Xbox is used for interrogation on the PS2...it would have to be switched to R3, except the R3 button is used for camera positioning on the PS2. In short, the Xbox ran out of buttons. Worse, you NEED analog buttons for MGS in CQC. You tap while you're holding an enemy and you choke-hold him, you push hard and you slit his throat, you push a different button and you hold him hostage. Another throws him.
The thing is, some will say this gets confusing. However, the interface for CQC was so intuitive and natural that it absolutely revolutionized the gaming experience.
So what does Microsoft do? They THROW AWAY THE BLACK AND WHITE BUTTONS.
You couldn't even play Metal Gear Solid 2 on the Xbox 360. There's no way Konami would release the sequel to Metal Gear on the Xbox 360 without some incredible programming ingenuity and deft control tap-dancing ... unless they throw out CQC and most of the First-Person Controls.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -7/+66I love the wonderful site this is from and the wonderful sources it cites.
"I'll get official comment from Konami in the week, but it is Saturday and this came pretty much from the horse's mouth, so you can count on this being legit." - dackerman, on 10/12/2007, -58/+3The PS3 version is going to be much better than Xbox. I'm not really concerned.
- gregharmon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+63Why would you be concerned anyway? Do you goto sleep at night, thinking "Ooo!!I hope MGS stays exclusive for the PS 3, so those pesky Xbox owners won't get to play!! Oooo!!!"
Now if you own Sony stock, it could make some sense... - dualscreenman, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9PS3 one will no doubt have framerate problems and/or not display 1080p.
- EvilCowSan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Well he might worry that everytime the ps3 loses an exclusive his beloved console becomes more worthless than it already is.
- spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4A lack of exclusives makes something crap? Xbox 360 has one good exclusive right now, and that's gears of war. (Although I've been hearing good things about Viva Pinta) Exclusives are only important if you're trying to bash another console.
- gregharmon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+63Why would you be concerned anyway? Do you goto sleep at night, thinking "Ooo!!I hope MGS stays exclusive for the PS 3, so those pesky Xbox owners won't get to play!! Oooo!!!"
- Svoma15, on 10/12/2007, -7/+72How is this a reliable source?
- ItchyMcknobster, on 10/12/2007, -20/+11Sorry fanboys, if this is legit the PS3 is as good as finished.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Well there's still those Final Fantasy games for all the Japanese and RPG nerds.
What the hell, man? I really think Sony made a good console (even though the blu-ray thing pisses me off...it's not going to work like it did last time with the DVD) and all this negative hype, and developers pulling out will make it a flop.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Well there's still those Final Fantasy games for all the Japanese and RPG nerds.

- FLaw, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3I would think this is BS for the fact that they're under contract to keep it exclusivity for PS3??
- lacronicus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8contract? what contract? I see no contract. Konami could port it to the N64 for all that Sony could do. now that i think about it, thatd be pretty cool.
- MaXPL, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9lame. what a horrible source.
- belola, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4This is good news, now i dont have to buy a ps3, instead i will buy a 360, get a cheap hddvd player and also play my games with the vibration function.
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Sources don't get much more "legit" than this folks. lol
- sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3I want this to be true but all gaming news is unreliable unless I read it on IGN or Gamespot.
- joshreed104, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14There's been a rumor on the MGS4 Gamspot/Gamefaqs board about this for a LONG time, so some random site claiming the same is not really a step forward.
BUT if MGS4 does happen to come out on the 360, there's not a chance in hell I'm buying a PS3. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11Cool news if it's true (I own a PS3 and I'm all cool with Sony, but more games on more systems means more people get to play great games), but as many have said before this is possibly the most unreliable source ever. Random blog post - no link. People need to check for reliability for digging this crap.
- castillo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4If Sony could have pumped out more PS3s do you think this would have happened? I'm not a big fan of Sony any more, but I'm starting to feel a little sad for them.
- ashwin100, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7Hmm, the title is a little inaccurate. MGS4 wouldn't just be 'another' lost PS3 exclusive, it'd be the biggest lost exclusive, unless/until Square Enix decides to spread itself onto the X360 aswell.
Now we just need a credible source to confirm this. - xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9Hopefully it does come to the 360 along with FFXIII, but this is fake news and the source is not creditable.
- Pebcak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If FFXIII came to the Xbox, I would have no reason to ever buy a PS3.
- DogmaticAtheism, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5HELL YES! I hope this is true.
Then the only thing PS3 has left of value is Final Fantasy XIII
Oh, please let it be true, I don't want to buy a PS3. I want to buy an XBOX360 and a Wii. :( - joltjake, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6thats ***** awesome.

- Talus, on 10/12/2007, -14/+14This probably isn't true, but it sure is funny to watch the PS3 fanboys panic.
I loved MGS2:Substance for the PC. I haven't played MGS3 yet, but I'd love to without having to buy a PS2...and I'd SURE love to play MGS4 on my XB360.- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23I don't see PS3 fanboys panicking here, I see 360 fanboys and PS3 haters adding a +1 to their list.
- Runningboard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13instead of complaining and *****... you guys should really dig as innacurate or ok this is lame. let's not waste time on this and just bury it.

mess up, digg me down. - LordStandley, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2As dumb as Sony has been over the last year, I doubt they are stupid enough to let this franchise go.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I have an honest question here. How does a console manufacturer get exclusive titles? High profile titles would sell well on other consoles, so obviously the manufacturer must provide some kind of financial incentive for the exclusive. Is it cash payments, lowered licensing fees, shared advertising, something else, or all of the above?
With game development costs skyrocketing and Sony in a poor position financially to bankroll exclusives (meanwhile Microsoft is selling its consoles at a profit now), and a likely smaller market share for Sony, it seems to me there will be fewer and fewer exclusives. - LordStandley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm sure manufacturers pay out the nose for an exclusive.
I'm also curious why someone would digg me down for my comment. Sony would be foolish to let go of this franchise. This game will sell consoles hands down, and they need all the help they can get.
I'm all for it coming to the 360 as I dont have a PS3 and wont be buying one untill the price drop. But whether you like it or not, they can not afford to lose anymore exclusives right now. - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At the same time think how much Microsoft would be willing to pay to developers to not be exclusive. It seems to me they're biggest two challenges are Sony exclusives and cracking the Japanese market. They could potentially buy their way out of the first, and it seems like they might be making a little headway on the second.

- unre4l, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Seconded, after Chaos Theory I thought they were on a winning streak. :(
- spidermanspants, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Need a more reliable resource other than "I know a guy"
- lacronicus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2However glad this news makes me, it would be nearly impossible to port the game in this short a time. I mean its taken them this long to get it on the ps3, and theyre just starting it now for the 360? i doubt it.
- Blue_Eon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Well, if this is indeed true, and Sony somehow manages to let Square Enix slip away, then they're done for. God of War won't be enough to save the PS3 if that happens.
- Maarek, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8Every version of Metal Gear Solid (be it the GC update or straight ports) has been on multiple consoles. MGS2 and MGS3 had an Xbox version (substance and subsistence).... edit: correction MGS3 did not show on the XBOX...bad bad memory. So the fact that MGS4 is coming out for Xbox 360 is no big surprise. The suprise I get is that this may in fact be damage control from Konami due to the possibility of a low install base. It may be that they are stepping up the 360 release to an earlier date because ultimately they want to sell as many copies as they can and unfortunately right now that's not going to be on the PS3. As a 360 and Wii owner this makes me happy, but as a potential PS3 purchaser it makes it all that much harder to justify the cost. Maybe FF XIII will help.
- gramturismo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6MGS3 for Xbox?? Don't think so.
- BenSerwa, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Wow. What a seriously huge blow to the PS3. FFXIII can't be far behind.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -17/+11"BluRay diode failure"
Pure BS. Want to say shortages? Fine, there sure are a lot. But don't just make ***** up.
Marked as inaccurate.- shad0w, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17That isn't made up. The PS3 shortages were do mainly to the low manufacturing yields of the blue laser diodes used for the Blu-Ray drive.
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1outright failure and low yields are two separate things.
a low yield means that only a certain percentage of manufactured items actually pass inspection for use in other products. failure implies that items sold are no longer working.
this generation it seems like /maybe/ sony has finally gotten its manufacturing act together, as there have not yet been any defects that warrant massive returns. consoles are becoming more and more complex and it shows with the ds power supply return, the various xbox360 issues, and the ps2 disc issues. we shall see how sony's shipped numbers shape up in the next few months. that is a good indication of what blu-ray yields are like.
- theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5this source is not reliable at all
Until i hear it from Kojima's mouth, this is inaccurate *****. - Fermac, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2It's too good to be true...
That would clearly support my decision to buy a Wii now that I have a X360, though.
Not for the game "per se" but because it would show an undeniable shift in the exclusives department that buoyed the Playstation brand so well.
When a company forces a third party (Konami) to commit their best licenses to a single console I think nobody wins. That's what first party are for. - Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Really far from being a trustworthy resource and I'll believe it when I see it. However, if it turns out to be true, I'll be laughing at my Sony-fanboy pal for at least a week.
- blanktarget, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3There was talk of this already and it wouldn't be suprising if it's true. Besides hardcore sony fans and greedy ebay sellers who really bought the ps3?
- StephenChow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Inaccurate.
