- EvanVolm, on 10/07/2008, -2/+46It's been "supply constrained" for nearly 2 years....
- techblogLAT, on 10/07/2008, -1/+40Seriously, Nintendo needs to open up another factory or something.
- SillyRabbits, on 10/07/2008, -3/+40With the xbox 360 arcade version at $199, I have a feeling many of those who can't find a Wii aren't going to go home empty handed. From the perspective of a parent, all that matters is price point.
- Thepirateking, on 10/07/2008, -5/+38Huh, well, I was considering selling mine, I hope this turns out to be true.
- joshuawilde, on 10/07/2008, -0/+22Forget gold, we should just switch to a currency backed by Wiis instead. We'd be out of the economic crisis in two months!
- KrustyTClown, on 10/07/2008, -6/+28The only Wii game I'm looking foward to is Wii sports 2
- waterwampa, on 10/07/2008, -1/+22I think Nintendo has this supply constraint figured out. Yes, it has been a frustration (as an owner... i completely understand @_@) but, in the numbers game of supply and demand... Nintendo is maximizing its profits with the supply that it can fulfill. It may be a conservative game to play, but Nintendo is not trying to compete directly with Sony or XBox anymore. They're finding a niche... and sticking with it. This may be the safest thing to do right now.
- cforce05, on 10/07/2008, -1/+21I think this was the goal of Nintendo, to keep the hype up and milk huge profits over the course of multiple holiday seasons.
- ThisURLNotFound, on 10/07/2008, -1/+19Dear BoonTobias,
Don't force your opinions on me. While CoD4 is good, I would hardly call it "the best game ever."
Sincerely,
current Wii owner - sockpuppets, on 10/07/2008, -0/+17And fill it with oompa loompas.
- machocheese34, on 10/07/2008, -0/+16what?
- diggnik, on 10/07/2008, -2/+15Wii availability a problem?
Try finding a Wii Fit - Ashkc88, on 10/07/2008, -11/+22Actually, I have more good games on my Wii then my PS3. I also have just as much good games for the Wii as I do for my 360.
The Wii having no good games or not getting good games (See Wario that just came out, Punch Out, The Conduit, and the many other games that were recently introduced that look fun) is already an old and inaccurate argument. - Drax0n, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11You do realize they are already producing 3x more wii's than xbox's and ps3s don't you? They just happen to be selling 4x faster.
- aurorous, on 10/07/2008, -0/+10The Wii has sold 10 million more in just 2 years than the gamecube sold sold in 6 years. Name ANY other console that has sold 33 million in only 2 years? It hasn't happened before. When your in business you don't plan to fail. You also don't plan runaway success either. The Wii has beat Nintendo's most optimistic wet dream scenario. If it were a fad demand would have tapered off by now, even Microsoft and Sony now admit they're fighting for 2nd place this generation.
I found today my boss (a 50 year old woman) owns a Wii and raving about how good Wii fit was and how her husband plays it every single day. She didn't even know you could connect it to the internet and download classic games. She isn't the type of person who would have bought a PS3 instead. - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -1/+11I skipped buying a Wii from Futureshop/Best Buy... amazingly, HMV had 16 in stock while those other two major chains had 0. Same price. No begging for commission "extended warranties".
- Drax0n, on 10/07/2008, -1/+11and borrowing the money to open them, than when the sales finally tank (and they always do) they would default on their loans and file bankruptcy in the true american fashion!
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/07/2008, -2/+12Truer words have never been spoken.
- braineater2448, on 10/07/2008, -4/+13Nintendo has been underestimating their success with the Wii and DS for a while now. Time to grow your company, Nintendo!
- zeebo, on 10/07/2008, -2/+11They're already outselling the PS3 and the 360 combined by more than 2:1. Its not like they can just drop 100 million systems on the market at once. This has got to be the craziest demand for a system ever.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+9no *****, is that even english?
- KingGoonie, on 10/07/2008, -16/+25Selling the Wii in the holiday with all the great games coming in 2009? Craziness.
- EtherGnat, on 10/07/2008, -2/+10Who's been lying to you? The Wii is selling significantly more software than either the 360 or PS3, even if most of it's considered garbage by the hardcore gamer.
- zeebo, on 10/07/2008, -3/+11Right, and that's how the Wii is consistantly the highest selling console. Its not that they're artificially constraining supply, its just that every time they increase their production they still have that many more people a month buying them. There's simply no way that they can even attempt to approach meeting demand at once.
- philipz78, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8That didn't work too well for Beanie Babies, or Pokemon cards.
- joshuawilde, on 10/07/2008, -1/+8No, but I did make a bet with myself that someone would be unable to resist the urge to mention that. Thanks!
- Langford, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7By keeping their spending low now, they may be able to subsidize research and manufacturing costs on the next system. As much as I like my Wii, whatever system they make next, will have to sport larger hardware in order to competitive. I can't say for sure, but it seems very likely that this could be their way of making sure they can boost the future generation's hardware while still keeping their price within a tempting range.
- Skooma714, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7***** gold, I should get an retirement fund based solely on Wiis.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6I saw a stack of those at Toys R Us just yesterday. Go figure.
- trudeau, on 10/07/2008, -0/+6I agree with what you said, but it isn't a niche really is it. What with being more popular than the others...
- burketo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+6i love the wii for the same reason that i spend hours playing some stupid flash game... because they are addictive.
- jonpirtle, on 10/07/2008, -2/+8uhhh, we dont make commission from the extended service plans (they really aren't warranties)...actually, we dont make any commission at all, period.
- Langford, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7They've been selling more than everyone else, right? Doesn't that also mean they are producing more than everyone else already? The more factories they open, the bigger the bubble burst will be once the sales finally peak.
- c010rb1indusa, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6Tax religious institutions you'd not only balance the budget you'd wipe out the national debt.
- c010rb1indusa, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6Metroid Prime Hunters, No More heroes, Brawl, Galaxy, Mario Kart, RE4, Warioware, Twilight Princess, Okami...I
- sanman, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5By the time Wii-2 is launched, people will still be lining up for the original Wii
- DJMattB241, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5People that go into a store for a Wii are NOT going to leave with a 360 Arcade. They're not in the market for "a video game system." They're in the market for *The Wii*
If you go to the store for a Nine Inch Nails CD (yeah I know everyone pirates, just go with me for a second), and they don't have it, you don't go "well I'll just get a Fall Out Boy CD instead" and forgo the NIN altogether.
You went for a very specific experience, and that's the experience you want to leave with. - Nudar, on 10/07/2008, -2/+7Dear Idiot/mywhitenoise,
Those are selling for way above MSRP. - Drax0n, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6I don't think buying somthing on craigslist or ebay mean its easily available.
- rubicante, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5Ya right, the Chinese will be complaining about all the "American gold farmers ruining their games."
- mywhitenoise, on 10/07/2008, -18/+22you forgot to add "for PS3 and 360" after "2009".
- hiriumi, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5An American company would be opening up a whole bunch of factories by now.
- LemonHerb, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5Maybe the economy isn't that bad, if we still got enough money to spend on video games.
- socialexpert, on 10/07/2008, -12/+16That make America for the end of the year for the Wii.
- PsyklonAeon, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4Especially not on gaming consoles, the markup is like 5% or so, if even that.
- Drax0n, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4LOL of course not when your selling 3-5x as many consoles and only selling 2-3x more games than the competition its still a victory. Especually if your smart and you make money on both the console and game sales.
- mogebier, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4You are obviously not a parent.
You do not go into a store for product "A" and come home with product "B" instead.
It doesn't work that way. - mogebier, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4I wanted a Wii about a year ago. I saw one in an ad for a Sunday morning. I went and stood in line for 45 minutes and got one. Teh Wife wanted a Wii Fit and there was one in a Sunday ad. We went and stood in line for an hour and got one.
Too many people will not even give a little bit of effort for things. They want to go right into a store and buy popular things. Whiners. - chaosblade77, on 10/08/2008, -0/+4It's also worth noting that the DS is selling really well too, that means their producing two hot game systems.
- diggnik, on 10/07/2008, -2/+6May I advise a minor investment.
They are harder to find than a solvent bank here in the UK -
