- DeviantDragon, on 06/14/2009, -7/+178Not quite digging the new look.
- syphern, on 06/14/2009, -1/+112WTF happened to Max Payne, he looks like a redneck!
- ph0replay, on 06/14/2009, -2/+77The change in appearance is far too drastic.
- petethepanda, on 06/14/2009, -0/+75R* apparently missed what people loved about 1 and 2. No doubt this will entirely eject the film noir style and instead adopt this generic Grindhouse feel that's been popular lately, and have a gruff hardass revenge tale instead of an actual story.
"...the tragic events of Max Payne 2." They didn't even understand that 2 had a good ending? Augh.
Max Payne without Remedy and Sam Lake is not Max Payne. Bring on Alan Wake. - MusicalGenius1, on 06/14/2009, -0/+70He looks like Jeff Bridges a la Iron Man …
- zlib, on 06/14/2009, -1/+69Whats with the John McClane look?
No city and SNOW? Bring it back!!! - ilikedemoon, on 06/14/2009, -5/+59The first Max Payne was the best. why do they keep changing it?
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -0/+52Glad to know they have completely ruined Max Payne
- t1nuSK4, on 06/14/2009, -0/+49Oh my god, I don't think they could've made him any more generic-looking
Whatever happened to his hair? Or the atmosphere noire? - skyfox2k, on 06/14/2009, -0/+44Rockstar: Sir, the technology doesn't exist. Honestly, it's impossible.
Obediah: Remedy was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps! - Jimbob200, on 06/14/2009, -2/+42This is just absolute *****. I am such a huge fan of these two games and I am so ticked off this is the direction they've taken it.
The original premise was a New York cop who had his family killed and goes on a killing spree in revenge. It was a noir story with a femme fatale and a dark atmosphere and effective voice acting for unique characters. And though at times it was completely cheesy, it never stopped taking itself seriously, which is always good for the coherency of the story.
What Rockstar has gone and done is to completely transplant the character. It isn't Max Payne in New York with murdered family and film noir story. It's just a game called Max Payne 3 with a strange bearded man with bulging arms and a gun and an addiction to painkillers.
Absolute *****.
The sole way they can make this palatable is if they make such a fantastic story that plausibly explains everything regarding how and why Max got to Brazil. Otherwise, it's just Grand Theft Auto without the cars, and with a cover system. I have never felt this strongly about a game before, and I cannot voice my opposition to this loudly enough. :( - mrdeadhead, on 06/14/2009, -0/+35Well i'm expecting another Rockstar game where the environments are amazing but the actual game is less than compelling.
- alexray0, on 06/14/2009, -0/+33As far as I'm concerned, Max Payne ended with 2.
- NextGenXbox, on 06/14/2009, -0/+33That looks like an old Sam Fisher, not Max Payne. WTF?
- bigdoof, on 06/14/2009, -0/+33Yeah, I thought Iron Man already killed him in that last movie.
- TheBenSimpson, on 06/14/2009, -2/+31My god, this game might be worse than the movie...
- Chompy, on 06/14/2009, -0/+28Seriously. This is a frigging game, it's not like they couldn't get the original actor.
- noPCtoday, on 06/14/2009, -1/+28nice. NOW WHERE IS MY ALAN WAKE??
- MacHarborGuy, on 06/14/2009, -1/+26it prints money
- Tearlock, on 06/14/2009, -0/+24The part of Max Payne will be played by Shel Silverstein: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/6166/ss/ ...
- illogik, on 06/14/2009, -0/+23I am actually looking forward to this. I enjoyed Max Payne 1 & 2.
"I intended to give Vlad his gun back.... one bullet at a time." - christoast, on 06/14/2009, -2/+25Agreed, I liked the dark urban comic style. It was almost poetic. I'd give this a chance though.
- mattyboy555, on 06/14/2009, -2/+25Looks like Max Payne 3 is going to be another generic Action game, just like how the resident Resident Evil series is heading now.
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -1/+23Pretty much..
Tropical landscapes? Foreign countries? Bald and fat? Stained shirt?
Why the ***** did they mess up a legend? Now he's just another cookie-cutter action figure like everyone else. Where is the charm? The poetry? The noir-ness? - MMaster23, on 06/14/2009, -1/+22What? No leather trench coat, huge grin and pointy hair???
Baaaaaaah.. next up: Max Payne 3 not to feature bullet-time.. - Stillmatic3, on 06/14/2009, -0/+20Does that means that Bruce Willis is in and Mark Wahlberg is out of the movie sequal?
- jeremymccurdy, on 06/14/2009, -0/+20They're not even using the same voice actor.
- babylonian, on 06/14/2009, -1/+19I'm completely with you. MP1 and 2 are some of my favorite games of all time.
And yeah, you know how you said the only way for it to be redeemable is if they explain how Max got to Brazil? If you read the article, they say that there's a period of 12 "missing years" between MP2 and MP3 that they might not even explain.
***** that, and ***** you, Rockstar Vancouver, if you butcher Remedy's amazing franchise. - homercles337, on 06/14/2009, -1/+16That fool looks nothing like Payne.
- inactive, on 06/14/2009, -3/+18Hope this is good, loved the previous ones.
- Jimbob200, on 06/14/2009, -0/+14I just read that too. It's ultimately too much of a stylistic shift for me. The games were one thing and now Rockstar is doing this other thing.
And I quote:
"The strengths of Max Payne 3 are still those that helped carry the first two entries to success. It's a no-holds barred shooter that retains a laser-like focus on gameplay. So far this game seems to have this crucial element nearly perfected."
"No-holds barred shooter"? What the ***** does that even mean anymore, when every third game that comes out involves blasting the ***** out of something and having guts spray everywhere? No, it was the story and presentation and the fact the shooting mechanic worked well enough. It was a magic blend of time and setting and story and shooting. Notice though, how the shooting was propelled solely by the story requirements. It was never gratuitous, like Gears of War 2 making you slog through underground caverns for four hours. Epic Games couldn't tell a great story to save its life.
***** - Ninjao, on 06/14/2009, -1/+14Max Payne is New York Noir based. Not some Bruce Willis Action hulk *****.
- MacHarborGuy, on 06/14/2009, -0/+13I wonder if they will do the same type of "drastic change" of character design with the next Tomb Raider... Lara after letting herself go, riding around on a hoverround. at least that would explain why the controls suck and why she steers like a cow.
- pixelate, on 06/14/2009, -0/+13I didn't think it was possible, but this makes "Max Payne" the movie look like a faithful adaptation by comparison.
- deathandtaverns, on 06/14/2009, -0/+13less testosterone please. I'm not saying I don't think it will be a good game, it's just why does every hero of an action game have to look like a roided out fella right out of the WWE? He has guns, he doesn't have to punch his way through walls and he isn't a marine why does he look like he loves to give you high fives and drink natty ice?
- AltruiSisu, on 06/14/2009, -0/+12don't forget James McCaffrey's voice ... which we won't have. max definitely isn't max without his voice.
- ElGubrush, on 06/14/2009, -0/+11So much for noir, it has now turned into a flick. *****, I loved the second one. I loved it so much I actually made a poster using the noir comic scenes in it. Bastards...
- RAEP, on 06/14/2009, -1/+12Now he looks like a ***** sleazeball. Not a cop on the edge with nothing left to lose.
- MacHarborGuy, on 06/14/2009, -0/+10Max Payne 5: Max is found in a cryo-stasis chamber millions of decades in the past (?) and has to fight his way thru hordes of zombie dinosaur mutant babies with only a six shooter and a paper clip.
OH, Im sorry, that was McGyver 2049er - Jimbob200, on 06/14/2009, -0/+9I'm in Canada, but I wouldn't mind your support for a campaign for Prime Minister. ;)
- Frostek, on 06/14/2009, -0/+9Hurray - a game for us balding, bearded guys - it's about time!
- MacHarborGuy, on 06/14/2009, -2/+11better than a John McCain look
- Chompy, on 06/14/2009, -2/+11Max Payne 4: one gamer's quest for revenge again R* for ***** up one of the best franchises ever.
- Homest4r, on 06/14/2009, -0/+8This better not suck. The first two Max Payne games are among my finest gaming memories growing up; definitely two classic videogames.
Considering they've completely ***** up the movie, I have little hope this will be much better considering it's in different (and wrong) hands. - babylonian, on 06/14/2009, -0/+8Words can't describe how nervous I am about a Max Payne game not developed by Remedy.
Reading this article (something apparently no one else did) made me feel a little better, but not a lot. - Lead4D, on 06/14/2009, -2/+10Those *****.
- alexray0, on 06/14/2009, -0/+8Sadly, he's not.
"Since Max is older, the team decided against using voice actor James McCaffrey again. Instead, they plan on casting a new voice actor who can toll that the years have taken on the protagonist." - palehorse864, on 06/14/2009, -1/+9Because perpetually constipated heroes became passé.
http://www.playfuls.com/images/news/max_payne3_rum ... - guybrush3000, on 06/15/2009, -0/+7No way, 2 was perfection. 1 was a great game tho.
but this looks dumb. Super generic. Not film noir at all - ortucis, on 06/14/2009, -0/+7Yeah but with Rockstar, the cover is a pretty damn good judge right there.
A big ***** YOU to Remedy. ***** Alan Wake, there was no need to hand over Max Payne to Rockstar. -
