I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream - secaedelcielo, on 10/14/2008, -2/+40The third comment of the article mentioned Animal Crossing.
And however kiddish that game was, it really did tackle the real-life problems of paying off a mortgage and trying to make a living, en général.
Oh yea, and the real-life issues of having to collect EVERY SINGLE ***** SPECIE OF FISH AND BUGS...
But that's besides the point. - sockpuppets, on 10/15/2008, -0/+34Don't be hatin' on my trout collection.
- Sornos, on 10/15/2008, -0/+25Personally I think it work a buy for the quality. Either way, you should play it. Definitely one of the best games of the last few years. Just don't come in expecting Doom under water or System Shock 3. Expect a story driven shooter with RPG elements sprinkled with a bit of Ayn Rand. Also, amazing voice acting and music.
- Acglaphotis, on 10/15/2008, -1/+21Dugg for FFT. Games set in Ivalice are so underrated :(.
- kawaiirobo, on 10/15/2008, -0/+19Dugg for providing yet anther reason to hate Soulja boy, as if I needed it.
- burnin8r28, on 10/15/2008, -2/+17I've still never played bioschock. Is it worth getting off my ass and getting it?
- ninjaned79, on 10/15/2008, -0/+12more like total idiot.
- coldkill3r, on 10/15/2008, -2/+13Dugg for Mass Effect (Capitan Shepard '08!) and Indigo Prophecy, those two are the some of the best RPG's I've ever played.
Anyone got any similar RPG's that you think I'll enjoy? - MrBogard, on 10/15/2008, -2/+13The Witcher!
- tundratess, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10Nothing wrong with a game that makes you think.
- MattyDienhoff, on 10/15/2008, -0/+9Interesting article. I see Half-Life 2 and Call of Duty 4 got an honorable mention, I wonder what the reasons are...?
I'm guessing the reason for Call of Duty 4's mention is 'Death from Above', the AC-130 gunship mission. And how, in it, the crew kill about a hundred people and later lightheartedly chat about how the video footage will make 'one helluva highlight reel'.
As for Half-Life 2, I really don't know. HL2's story is actually quite ordinary, what makes it special is the tasteful way in which it's presented to the player. It's the *way it's told*. Personally, I feel the story could have been a bit deeper than it is. It's too plainly good vs. evil. - optimuskade, on 10/15/2008, -5/+14Rental.
- Chebsi, on 10/15/2008, -1/+10No _________? This list fails. What a ***** list. etc...
- 3sicasity, on 10/15/2008, -0/+8well, the upcoming "heavy rain" is made by the same guys as Indigo Prophecy. its supposed to be similar in gameplay too.

- coldkill3r, on 10/15/2008, -1/+9Did they remove the securom off the pc version? If not, probably just rent the console versions (if you own one).
- nshady, on 10/15/2008, -3/+11I ***** hate how ***** Games Radar launches ***** popups every single ***** time you click ON THE ***** TEXT... not even on an ad.
It forced me to use Opera's site preferences for the first time just to stop it. - Brododium, on 10/15/2008, -0/+8Yeah, if you're going by their definition: "Real world definition of "mature": Showing the mental, emotional, or physical characteristics associated with a fully developed person; involving serious thought."
I've only played the first two, but I'd say that the character depth is quite good (e.g. Edgeworth, Acro, Gant, Adrian Andrews). - Bologner, on 10/15/2008, -1/+8Shadow of the Colossus, maybe?
- TwiiLight, on 10/15/2008, -0/+7Never played that 'I have no mouth and have to scream' one, is it good? looks good
- jaggedbubbles, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6Dugg because I was beginning to think I had been the only person who ever played AMBER.
- WoollyMittens, on 10/15/2008, -1/+7He said "seed" ... *giggle*
- Ragingcnu, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6spoilers...
didn't Shepard retain the rank of Commander even after his promotion to Spectre? I never thought he actually made Captain.
Nerd, I know... - chongli, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6I've played Bioshock a few times, made it somewhat far.
I like some aspects of the game, such as customization of your weapons and character, creating things with scrounged parts and playing pipe dreams. That said, the game has several flaws. The Vita-Chambers, should you choose to leave them enabled, remove all challenge from most encounters. You can simply charge blindly at the enemy with your wrench, wearing them down while you continuously respawn in the chamber.
If you choose to disable them, the game becomes much more challenging, albeit in a way that I had not expected. Ammo is extremely scarce! You will be hunting and scrounging for more ammo for hours. You'll abuse sentry guns and bots to kill as many enemies as possible to avoid wasting any ammo. If that's your kind of thing, go for it. I found it was too frustrating walking around having no ammo. - coldkill3r, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6No. Support Bioware and pony up the cash.
- johnnysaucepn, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Which is why it doesn't count as 'mature' in a list like this one.
- djasshat, on 10/15/2008, -2/+7No Fallout? Really?
- Mujokan, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Tactics Ogre had a dark storyline, though. Lodis wasn't quite so dark, but still serious.
FFTA had a touching storyline that kind of made you think about your own life, but it's not "adult", I agree. FFTA2 has a very simple story that has kind of a childish tone.
But I think probably a lot gets lost when you translate into English. It's simply impossible to get the variations in tone across, even if the translators don't just bowdlerize the whole thing because they don't want to scare off the Western consumer. (Not wanting to sound like a snob, but I have big problems with most English dubs and translations of Japanese pop culture. Well, I guess I am kind of a snob about it.) - staticneuron, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Actually I was making a poor joke. The stories were solid I just didn't think that the story nor the gameplay of the advanced series matched up to the original FFT. Especially the tone. The advanced series I would say targets the age of pre teen to teen while the FFT is strictly an adult only matter. The political nature and philosophical debates of that game only was attempted once more in FFXII to much less fanfare.
- staticneuron, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5You are presented with choices in COD4?
Here I was blindly following the linear storyline..... silly me. - Brododium, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Don't forget orchard planting, running stupid errands for incompetent neighbours, collecting dinosaur bones, working out how the ***** feng-shui is supposed to work, collecting all the pieces of furniture in a set... etc.
Exactly like real life. - Elranzer, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Indigo Prophesy isn't an RPG, it's an adventure game.
- snached, on 10/15/2008, -1/+6Adblock.
- legoman666, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5No The Longest Journey? (or its sequel?) Weak!
- Velnich, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Not a bad list, but I'm really surprised they picked Silent hill 4 out of the bunch and not 2.
- Mujokan, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5I take it your mileage varied, then.
- teckieee, on 10/15/2008, -0/+4uhmm no Yakuza 2? besides its brutal hand to hand or weapons combat and bunch of "what boys want" content, it has the most matured story line i have ever seen next to FFT, these kind of games doesn't spoon feed you like most games on the list, you just got to be an adult to fully understand the story line.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/15/2008, -1/+5Awesome game, I've played it through about three times.
- TheTallest, on 10/15/2008, -6/+10Needs more Baldurs Gate 2, that game was an absolute masterpiece and had a fantastic look into dealing with your inner demons (for a start, there plenty more.)
Shades of grey in if you are doing the right thing in every quest (a good chunk of the underdark section.), fiendish puzzles and also Minsc and Boo.
that and Planescape torment, I don't think there has been a game with that good a scope and story since.
Mass Effect and the Kotor series are a poor reflection of them.
Maybe the loss of the isometric view to gaming (mostly) has hampered it. interactions between 6 characters can be much more complex then 3. - petebot, on 10/15/2008, -0/+4Just buy it. It’s only like 30 bucks now, and it’s a pretty long game. The side planets are a little boring, but the main quests and storyline is pretty good.
- Melfencik, on 10/15/2008, -0/+4No Deus Ex?
- Duskraven, on 10/15/2008, -1/+5portal maybe?
i mean aside from the dark humor, the story as a whole is about a supercomputer that has killed its creators, and is now using people as mice in its maze. There are dark scrawling's all around the game, and the computer forces you to kill your "best friend," the inanimate companion cube (which im sure many gamers felt bad about after doing it). - flagg85, on 10/15/2008, -0/+4oops typo or freudian slip hmmm
- flagg85, on 10/15/2008, -0/+4Games have change since I was a kid have you ever seed 8bit porn on a computer that has 16 colors, you had over 18 in the uk to play them.
- goffy59, on 10/15/2008, -0/+4Fallout
Baldurs Gate
Planescape Torment
Deus Ex
Great games. - goffy59, on 10/15/2008, -0/+4Agreed. They didn't include Fallout. Mass Effect is good but not as good as Bioware's older games. And I'm not trying to be cliche. They seriously have made some amazing games that did not make that list. Planescape Torment was mostly designed by Chris Avellone from Interplay.
- Mujokan, on 10/15/2008, -1/+5FF: Tactics Advance also had quite a good story.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (the original Tactics style game, unless you count March of the Black Queen) and Tactics Ogre Gaiden: The Knight of Lodis have good plots too.
FF: Tactics A2 doesn't really have much of a story, but it's a nice representation of the world.
(All played in Japanese so your mileage may vary.) - coldkill3r, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3@Elranzer
Yeah, I sometimes mistype/mispeak and lump the two together. Thanks. - Zounas, on 10/15/2008, -0/+3I just tried it for the first time. You haven't missed anything as the puzzles are unlogical (mostly just using correct items on right place) and the story boring. Also the graphic is kinda crappy compared to the other games in that era. Also I didn't find any of those "mature" moments, except once you kill somebody for no reason.
As a summary: short, ugly and boring point-and-click "adventure". -
