- Bromskloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Half the time when 'cheat' is called, the other person is just a good player, or had a lucky shot. I play COD2 and this is just stupid."
Half the time? Then the other half are real cheats? Thats no good.
Anyway, I don't really know if I like these anti cheat features at all. I don't know how they usually work but it seems to me like the only way to make them completely eliminate cheating is to use those "trusted computing" chips. You know, those who would give the manufacturer total control of your computer. And we _don't_ want those! - sweetnjguy29, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I personally dislike intrusive "anti-cheat" technology. I believe that games should try to prevent cheating...but not at the expense of privacy on my computer. Besides, some of these "anti-cheat" technologies can be defeated using the Sony Root-kit technology....like punkbuster.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you can't stop cheaters. Only RIAA supporters want to stop cheaters.
- Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow...it seems that anti-cheat is a must in any online game today...amazing that CoD2 wasn't
makes me not want the game even more - 4thgeneration, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How will this annoy the develpoers.... as far as I know you need the game to go on strike so therefore you have already bought it. All they want is money...
- Diligent_Nose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While I haven't played CoD2, I have spent a lot of time on CoD1, and I have played Day of Defeat with a many good players. I also have been a member of the closed beta tests for the last couple of versions.
In my experiance, 99% of what people think of as cheats are lucky shots, lag, and very very good players.
Without any anti cheat, I'm sure that cheating makes up for more thatn 1%, but I still would have a hard time beliving that more than 10% of people are using cheats. - pnezzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would work better for a mmo... *cough* SWG. But if the devs for CoD2 don't add anti-cheat... no CoD3 my friends... or any other game from these ass munchers. Still, this strike is cheesy and lame. But, if you love the game that much. Whatever.
Cheaters never prosper... except in video games. And other... stuff. O_O - laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Infinity Ward isn't Valve, alot of the time developers that don't own their IP need PERMISSION from thier publisher (in this case Activision) to release a patch. Activision is extremely bad about allowing dev's to release patch support.
You also got to think about the battle Infinity Ward is in with Activision .. Acti guys are trying to ***** over infinity the same way EA did whe they made Medal of Honor - rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Talk about half ass. But don't, please dont put in punkbuster, those guys suck big time. They only catch little fags that download cheats but do nothing to stop the dudes that make their own home brew cheats. The only good thing Punkbuster does is give you ability to screenshot people but then, you have to have someone there 24/7 to screenshot and ban them.
- en3r0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, big mistake on their part, i support the strike.
- tynin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope they can get some anti cheat put into place due to this strike. I love the single player game (beaten it 3 times now, woohoo), but yeah the cheating has been pretty bad on some of the servers I've played on.
- pandemic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seems that the server has been digged.
- tj9991, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Glad I didn't buy it, I didn't know they hadn't put in anticheats
- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How can there be cheats when the game is so new? Just wondering, as I don't know anything about that world. But it would seem to me to be a organized world where people work together to develop cheats for a system. Yes?
Amazing - KevinJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well if you don't shut ur server down then all the 1337 dewds will visit u and be like, "OMFG uz likez cheatz 2 ?"
- xzeekx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think its retarded that you cant create your own games choose your own levels ect. and i think you should be able to play with your friends easier. i think they should set it up somewhat like rainbow six online setting. Otherwise all gameplay is very good.
- wobie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is so dumb...They got their money already, so this isn't going to hurt them at all. This is pointless because they were already working on patches with an anti-cheat. Why would you want to rush it so that there are more problems with it?
- RMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nix that, got through.
Best of luck to them, hope they make some changes. - asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0rewritable: And virus scanners can not detect non-public viruses/trojans. Heuristics would be nice for cheats/malware but it's so easy to defeat.
- gamer31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This makes me not want to buy the game now and also
Happy birthday Dygear - FaNtAsMa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To all of you saying that they aren't going to care because they already got their money.. you're wrong. Any good game developer (which I like to think that the people who make call of duty are) cares if people are still playing their games. That's why they make patches for them. Call of Duty 1 had quite a few patches to fix things that people complained about, so I would expect Call of Duty 2 would also be patched to fix things like that.
- Dygear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn it, that's my birthday too.
- t4phage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When did Call of Duty 2 come out?
- ScottyTee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it seems the digg effect has struck :D
- Kamakazi15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Viva la Resistance!
- ATNJONO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
YA my clan might be joining in this strike and i know quiet a few that r. - merm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I do think this kind of strike may be effective for two reasons:
1. When people do something in mass it has more of a chance to get media attention. Despite the fact that you need to own the game to "strike," multiple users doing it will be able to hopefully raise attention to their cause.
2. Because for those of us that see the strike, or hear of the issue because of it and don't purcahse the game this represents lost revenue for the game creator.
As a game consumer myself for example I'm less likely to purchase this game. - JAKL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To quote one of my buddies regarding his thoughts:
"You know the point really isn't how many servers can be shut down. I mean it is, but in the end that's not going to do jack squat at IW. But what it IS going to cause (and it's already happening) is media attention - bad media attention. And it actually is rather funny too, because some media person who has contacts is going to start asking IW - "They say you aren't communicating with the community about these various issues and thus are taking the unprecedented step of these server shutdowns - what do you say to that?". So either IW has to answer the question (thus giving us what we want), or they stay silent to the media as well and thus confirm to them exactly what people are complaining about. It's kind of an interesting trap they'll be painted into. To me anyway - that's what this is about. The shutdowns are really a means to an end - media attention on the problems they are causing and the ***** they are slinging." - tMANwi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As an avid player of this game I have mixed reactions to the strike. But I know that won't stop me from playing anyway. I've never actually encountered a cheat in COD2 as of yet (knocks on wood) and I hope not to.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0too bad that it won't do anything but piss off the people that actually cheat. Anyways there is always a way to cheat in any game.
This game is a must buy... that's if you actually buy games. - tranix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Instead of shuting down, turn your server names into Picket signs.
Servers List...
"Cheaters Cove"
"Bot Bay"
"Boycott Activision"
"Complain about Cheats"
"Call and complain now"
etc... - nachoooo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Half the time when 'cheat' is called, the other person is just a good player, or had a lucky shot. I play COD2 and this is just stupid.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'd like to call a mass strike for Call of Duty: Big Red One... that game sucks big time.
- RMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I can't stand cheaters, so I'll Digg it on faith.
Stupid Digg Effect.... - deadlychicken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0"I'd like to call a mass strike for Call of Duty: Big Red One... that game sucks big time."
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One.
What are you, retarded? Read the damn box. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0you can't stop cheaters. Only RIAA supporters want to stop cheaters.
