- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26All I know is that they are making a killing with the prices they have set.
My issue with that is that they would STILL be making a killing with the prices a quarter of what they are now.
C'mon, Nintendo. Aren't you making enough for each Wii sold? - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16C'mon... Where's Bubble Bobble!?
- Lou3000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+161. I would assume most people have used an emulator.
2. Emulator are rarely as well implemented as they are on the Wii, don't or take some work to use a decent controller, take some work to get them on you TV, require you to always hook your computer up, don't fit perfectly on a widescreen.
I'm more than happy to pay $5 for the games I really want, but this will not be more than 5 or 6. - Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15besides being a pain to get to your tv... it's illegal. Although I have nothing wrong with it, some people do have morals.
- c5mjohn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I disagree. If you are only willing to pay a dollar or two, then you should go out and buy the old games and systems that you want on ebay.
They are not taking "advantage of consumers." They are adding convenience for the average consumer. My older brother loves the Wii I bought him and was very excited when I showed him he could play his favorite childhood games for only a few dollars. He does not know what an emulator is and he would have never gone to ebay to look for a NES and an old SMB cartridge.
I praise Nintendo for the simplicity and convenience of the virtual console. The smile on my older brother's face was well worth the five bucks. - patrickloggins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Smash Bros. for N64. Gimme.
Just to rub it in, I'm posting from my Wii. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Kid Icarus should be a great addition!
- navitatl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I personally like to have the physical cartridges / cases if I'm going to spend money on something. This is the same reason why I don't pay to download mp3s - I'd rather go out and buy the album and have something to show for my money.
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8have you played mario kart on the DS? It is very similar, has more of everything, and has WIRELESS online play.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10agreed.. maybe I would buy the games if they were at half the current price. I would gladly pay the price they have now if they atleast included some multiplayer or improved/added new features (ex: implemented some wiimote sensing). Until one of these things happen i'm boycotting the virtual store as they really are taking advantage of consumers.
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7There's no doubt in my mind that there will be a new Kid Icarus game for the Wii.
From http://cube.ign.com/articles/617/617000p2.html
IGNcube: Will you make Kid Icarus for Revolution?
Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, I'm actually working really closely right now with the director of the [original] game. Now, whether or not when we get the Revolution all set up and everything is finalized, well who knows? That might be one of those characters where everybody says, "Hey, with the way our console is designed, that would be a perfect match." My question to you is, if we made this game would you buy it?
IGNcube: Absolutely.
Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, we obviously can't ignore that. Okay, we'll get the Eggplant Wizard coming back. - JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Insert insulting response that can't get nested a second level due to Digg's crappy comment display system, making people wonder whether I'm insulting the first comment or the second comment (but the same poster in this case).
Edit: insert edit here with 12 seconds left to update praising the Wii and hating the PS3 in the hopes of karma whoring. - DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Unfortunately, Taito is all but dead...
The atrocious Bubble Bobble Revolution for the DS is a good sign of that. The US version is so buggy that the game gets stuck at level 30 (out of 100).
http://electronictheatre.co.uk/shop/images/BubbBobbleRevolution(Boxart).jpg
(Worst and creepiest box art EVER! Ok... the NES Megaman box was worse)
I'd say that Bubble Bobble (the arcade version) is one of my favorite game ever...The NES version is good, though it has a lot of flicker when there's a lot of bubbles on the screen. I hope the current owners of the BB franchise (Atari?) will put it on the Virtual Console.
The Wii would be the only console where I could imagine a 3d version of Bubble Bobble. Aiming with the Wii-mote and shooting bubbles at enemies to trap them would be fun. I guess you could also aim at bubbles to jump on them.
But I don't see that happening, sadly, the franchise looks like it's going down the toilet. I still can't believe how they let that crappy BB Revolution game hit the shelves.
Enough ranting, long live the original Bubble Bobble! - Shorties, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5NES roms are not legal, Copyright law states (It was changed in the last 40 years or so) that a copyright is held forever, so NES roms will never be legal unless the company that created the game releases it free or Public Domain's it.
- Araxen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Kid Icarus Sequel on the Wii please. This is the most underrated game/franchise's ever released by Nintendo and it deserves a true sequel! The Gameboy game wasn't a true sequel.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Lets me put it this way, Cell Phone games cost usually $6 or more and most of them are crap... so its a pretty good deal."
That is totally nonsensical. Neither is a good deal. Basically all it expresses is the situation we put ourselves under by buying into closed systems.
Compare it to gametap.com. Unlimited access to (currently) 785 games for $7 a month ( many of which are going to be the same as the VC games, only better, because they are the arcade versions ). Compare that to $5 for a single game. It's ridiculous. And why the giant disparity? Closed platforms means zero competition. - Shorties, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Lets me put it this way, Cell Phone games cost usually $6 or more and most of them are crap... so its a pretty good deal.
- Pundan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I am pumped up.. Hey wait! Stop!
I hope they release Chrono Trigger on the virtual console soon! - razordancer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Kid Icarus was one of those titles that was really ahead of the pack... Great game, no clue why it never went anywhere after the original... It is interesting that Pit will be in Smash Bros. for the Wii...
- leonwehttam, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7god i can wait to get a wii, sooo many memories of these games
- dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yeah thats why I'm not buying these games. People should not buy these games until they add something to it. Too expensive for what they are plus u cant play them on other wiis.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think it's already game over on reseting the prices. Just don't buy the games and don't stress it.
I think the main reason they won't create a good deal is because it'd cut into sales of the fully bonafide Wii games. Sure they could sell Nintendo games at $1 a pop and still make a profit, but you'd have hundreds of hours of unplayed games to burn through and have no free time for new Wii games.
Video game prices have had very little to do with cost for a long time. Now it's getting even more bizarre. It has a lot more to do with consumer perception then anything now. - jwd2213, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I am pumped for the release of all my favorite N64 games again. I still have the old babe and will be looking forward to not haveing to get up to change the game ever again once its loaded up on the Wii haha
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You think the UK vc list is dismal, au's is pathetic. Is it so hard to release a game on the net for all countrys at same time.
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3that's all very well and good. but the christmas day releases still haven't shown up on my GFs wii over here in the UK. How about nintendo start treating all territories fairly... for once. :)
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the wii is kicking the PS3s ass.
right now. - Crumbeast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The US can too be far behind. Look at what they have so far compared to what we've gotten.
- Shorties, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I really wish they had $5 denominations, I wanted to get a Genisis game for 800, I had 700, but since I would of had to spend 10 bucks to get it I just figured it wasn't worth it, 5 bucks I probably would of done it.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In a semi-perfect world, points reward customers who buy more stuff from them by letting them get more points per dollar spent.
In a perfect world, both a point system and direct cash system are made available to customers who don't like calculating what they're paying for an offering.
In the real world, people who pay via points usually get ripped off three times: once because they don't realize what their X point game actually costs them in real dollars, again once they realize they have Y points left over and don't want to just leave them sitting around, and a third time when the company distributing the points realizes people don't know how much real money they're paying and raises the point costs/points payouts accordingly. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mario Kart 64 is the best Mario Kart hands down.
If I had a Wii I'd buy it. - tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I doubt they'll bring a VC Smash Brothers title with Brawl on the horizon. Don't want it cannibalizing sales.
- dotdan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know why you guys are so intent on Zelda for the VC.. you can get the GameCube remake for a few $$ more on eBay, and that comes with Master Quest.
- envy860, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jet Force Gemini would be incredible. The only problem is that Rare made it, and they might hold the franchise. :(
- nanboya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually skipped 64 and went from the original Kart to the Gamecube version; was it significantly better/different?
- nanboya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Super Mario World... can't wait till that shows up!
- 404notfound, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This. The releases for the various regions have been varying rather wildly. You can't infer anything about the US releases based on what Japan's getting.
If you want to find out what will definitely be coming to the US, scour the ESRB site for Wii game ratings. That's a sign that a game will be coming soon. - m00nstone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1C'mon dudes. Ice Climber, where's the love!
- ddrkeitaro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1insert another random comment about how the wii is kicking ps3's ass right now
- LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1kart 64 online .... EPIC...... never going to happen .... but would be cool.
- icealchemist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They have Super Mario World.... we JUST got SMB.
- dr00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why would it cannibalize sales? Brawl will be online, look loads better, have a ton of new characters and powerups. Honestly if they released it a month or so before Brawl it'd make me more excited than anything.
- tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's the old Mario Kart 64.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What do you want, a cookie?
- UberGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1please nintendo, i only want 3 games added.
1 Legend of Zelda: Ocrania of time
2 Goldeneye
3 Jet Force Gemini - bowdie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1>It's no secret you can play just about any console game ever made pre "last gen" with minimal effort.
Really? I've got a mame/neo*geo cabinet in the next room, and the usual nes/snes/mame on my xbox, but I'm still looking for proper Sega Saturn emulation. Anybody? Buller? - Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Japan has most of the same games that the U.S. has.. atleast according to wikipedia. What is a good game they have now but we don't?
- danielsan1701, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They never got tunneling to work for the DS, as far as I know.
- cornface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, it was significantly better. For some reason they gutted battle mode on the cube version. It almost seemed like they ran out of time.
- veronicabluth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The VC is so cool. I can't wait to play Icarus. My brothers played that when I was little and I have fond memories of it.
- jlebrech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They could make the GC games that have the lan play work with a system similar to XBConnect or XLinkkai. So basically a native Wii application finds players, and makes a connection then it fools the GC game to play thru the network but its really goin on the net.
They could do the same to N64 games and have the other player control the secondary controller on on your machine and you controller the secondary control on his machine. -
