- gnychis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Somebody in Rockstar games needs to do the community a favor and leak the AO version of Manhunt 2. I'd still buy the non-AO version to support them, but I'd really love to get my hands on the AO title.
- afzilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16The game will probably sell due to the controversy but it will always have the stigma of being the censored version.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13You both could have done a much better job by linking DIRECTLY to the source, which is this:
http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=261582 - Glugory, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9They ought to release an uncensored version online and, for the parts that were more designed with the Wii in mind, they should sheepishly mention how there are programs created to use the Wiimote on your PC. Maybe they could get it on Steam? I sure as ***** would buy it.
- AcePup, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10That's nice and all but who cares if you beat me to it by 6 minutes, don't spam your link in someone else's submission. Not only did you just get your comment burried but you just got your story burried as well, and probably by more than just me!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Am I the only one who is a little bit suspicious about all of this? I think some PR guys are going to be licking their lips at a big fat pay cheque coming their way.
The notion that Rockstar didn't know the game was going to get an AO rating before they submitted it is ridiculous. The ESRB provides a LOT of guidance to game publishers over what content gets what rating and it is truly naive to think that this game was submitted originally expecting an M rating.
The fact remains that the company will benefit an incredible deal from having their game hit the media (for free) the world over. It's incredibly plausible that they submitted a completely different, horrific version to the ESRB just to get the attention and perhaps they never had any plans to release the game before October 2007 anyway. - E7ernal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6there probably is - I think that they aded particularly explicit content in one part of the game like killing nude children or something to get the censors into a frenzy then took out the small amount of offending content.
- Glugory, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Well it doesn't help that the UK is crazy paranoid about video game violence. At least they're not as bad as the Aussies though.
- PsychoRick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Hit the nail right on the head there. There is no original AO version.
- OlnyGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sucks for Europe. Brawl released in 08' and now this.
- AzraelKans, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You may have a point there, have you read the Game radar "AO" version review, there is a scene where there was a ADULT movie playing in the background, an ADULT movie, I mean seriously what rating where they aiming at?
http://www.gamesradar.com/us/ps2/game/reviews/article.jsp?articleId=20070809114613799066§ionId=1000
"Take the scene in an adult cinema, where you pick off Project agents with gunfire to the gasps and slaps of an X-rated movie blown up on a massive cinema screen behind you. Those ushers are probably used to cleaning up all sorts of nastiness, but gobbets of brain aren’t among them." - posure, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Can't do much when Sony and Nintendo won't allow them to release it on their system either (the AO version).
- alfiealfiealfie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How ironic, the game is being partially developed in London yet the UK doesnt get a confirmed release date
- jdaniel284, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Its the same ratings board, same "restrictions".
- jdaniel284, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3oh no, an adult movie!!! we need protection, we need protection, please censor this for us!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Just because a date hasn't yet been confirmed doesn't mean that it isn't coming. They probably haven't yet sent a version of the game to the BBFC or PEGI yet.
Generally the US M rating is an indication that the game will pass without question in the UK. The ESRB M can sometimes correlate to a PEGI 16+. - neferiousrich, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4waiting for the story that some kid went out and killed someone halloween night because of manhunt 2
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If anything I'd say there's a lot less public, political wrangling over these things in the UK that I hear come out of the U.S. It still happens of course - politicians love a hot button issue - but I definitely hear of more of such shenanigans coming from over the pond. It just so happens the BBFC saw fit to ban this one, whereas the ESRB were simply going to rate it higher.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The amount of information out there concerning the actual situation, with console manufacturer license issues and other such obvious considerations, you'd think that two-lines-of-info-read knee-jerk gamer reaction like this would be laid to rest.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Ooh. The Hellgate is unpopular round these parts.
- Myst3r1o, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Of course Manhunt 2 was going to be released one way or another. It doesn't matter what they did to the game that made the ESRB overturn their original rating, as we'll never know.
I think this was the plan that Take-Two cooked up to begin with, so there's a lot more publicity and controversy around the game, and then they decide to set the release on Halloween of all days. It was a smart and strategic plan and a good one at that. - R3Dirkulous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the wii AO version got a rating of 92% in this magazine...I wonder if the M version will score any less in the same magazine http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=166229
- jdaniel284, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The even changed the name from "Manhunt" to "Man-Prissy-Play". The censored version is just not the same. This game will flop and deserves too.
- gamer31, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah they should have skipped the 20+ million console market and went for the AO rating so they wouldn't lose your 1 sale..
- retawd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12 words - Hells to ***** Yeah!!
- Zap2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Good, I had always assumed it be released as an "M" game...taketwo need the $$.
I didn't think it would come this year, but glad to here it is.
Sad ESRB raped the game first. - yaazz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Hopefully Manhunt pulls a "Sicko" and "accidentally" gets leaked out there......
- n3on33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I will NOT buy this game now; Take Two took the crap from ESRB and are censoring what us, the gamers get to play. Take Two should have stood up and fought for us, but they didn't. Even if they skipped the consoles and released it AO on the PC, I would have been fine with that, and would have purchased it. But now, they lost a sale.
- UwasaWaya, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"You are Daniel Lamb, former scientist who escapes from his christian summer camp. While using stealth skills to narrowly avoid camp counselors and nuns. A direct confrontation is right out... you'll likely be overwhelmed and slapped on the wrist. By sneaking up on your foes, you can remove the threat with three levels of stealth techniques, from the least effective, the tickle, which can bring the attention of other enemies, the hug, an intermediate technique that will eventually bring them to your point of view and let you escape, or the Noogie, a hyper violent attack only to be used as a last resort... but will guarantee the most graphic finish.
Interactive environments include hitting people with pillows, waterballoons, or reading scripture at them."
Rated E. - mortigon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Hmmm.... Hellgate: London, or Manhunt 2...
Hellgate :) - jdaniel284, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1The ratings board is voluntary. Rockstar should just say "***** you" to the ratings board and release the game. I am sick of seeing "Teen" stamped on the front of many of my games. I am 34
- UwasaWaya, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0It's not a restriction though. It's a license issue. It's not like they need the blessing of Microsoft or Mac to release a game for the PC... PC has had AO games before.
If Nintendo, MS or Sony doesn't give the ok for their consoles though, then they're up ***** creek. No one will distribute the games, and few people buy console games online.
Online distribution for an AO cut of Manhunt 2 would be easy.. and they could release the M version in stores. - altinnovation, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1They always release a pc version of their games so hopefully Manhunt 2 for the pc will be uncut as there are no restrictions for games on the pc.
- DarKnight90, on 10/10/2007, -11/+7I have a use for my Wii now, I knew buying one would pay off.
- VonBargenJL, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1BUT. so is Hellgate: London which looks multitudes better :)
- RainOfTerror, on 10/10/2007, -21/+2buried, duplicate story from earlier today
