Mandatory Installations Are Killing My Mojo

totalplaystation.com — Mandatory installs are the bane of my current generation gaming existence. They are the reason I turn off my PlayStation 3 in disgust and play antiquated systems.

  • palehorse864, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1I think a lot of the stuff that gets loaded is texture information, character models with textures, etc. Without this loaded on the hard drive, you would probably see a noticeable pause in your game any time it had to load a certain number of new textures or new enemies. Most users would probably consider a 30sec-1min wait time in the middle of the action unacceptable.

    The speed of the hard drive likely lets the game cache things that are coming up a lot faster. The hitch may even be smaller, maybe a half second, but when the game randomly freeze and then goes again for any length of time, it would be a problem.
