- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+96thanks, you gave thompson a week long boner
- bigdave_48875, on 10/12/2007, -9/+60sounds fair doesn't he know how delicate the Sony lasers are.
- dWhisper, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44Ah, you have to love media sensationalisim. I hate these, because you hardly ever hear about the "reason" and the crime being mixed on other high-profile crimes. If this was about, let's say, beer... it wouldn't be news. The headline would read "Man sentanced to life in prison over slaying of friend." But, this becomes a PS2 slaying because they owned a console. Not the fact that they were drinking heavily, or that the person was perhaps, just perhaps, a little unhinged.
- dasil003, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37Man if I had a dollar for every dead friend who tried to play a CD on my Playstation...
To say nothing of my xbox... - Mobadass, on 10/12/2007, -8/+38LOL do u think that they would put "Man murders his friend over how to use a Xbox" on the msn nbc site!
- cheerio, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32Exactly, its a PlayStation 2, not a MusicStation 2. Sony lasers burn out quicker than a crack pipe in front of Whitney Houston when you play music in them.
- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30The damn things cost $150. If you're so freaked out about wear and tear on your precious $150 electronic device, you have a problem.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21Just a little too geeky, pype. Just a little too geeky...
- windex99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Any Sony product that has moving parts is doomed. (and that is from 15 years of research).
- Omnicrola, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Never mind the fact that the PS was more or less totally irrelevent. This quote pretty much sums up the article :
"The two men were drinking heavily during a barbecue when they got into an argument about whether music should be played on Priestly's PlayStation."
Basicly, dont drink and play with guns. Way to sensationalize a headline. No digg. - zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Sensationalized headlines are a requirement here. You didn't know that?
- 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@dclowd
I'm not so sure it was too geeky. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how much is in a "metric assload". - rocjoe71, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10...But which side did the dead guy for for? Playing music or NOT playing music?
Just sayin' I'd like to know before shooting my mouth off around PS2 fans... Or worse, having it shot off for me. - brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Um...maybe it's just me but I think someone's life is more important than your grudges against Sony...have a little sympathy?
Besides...I don't even think this had anything to do with the Playstation. The man was insane...he probably would have killed over a lawnmower too. - wjglenn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't know. When I was younger a few friends of mine and I were thoroughly drunk and got into an argument over our toaster. The worst thing that happened was that we wasted a loaf and a half of bread trying to figure out who was right. (BTW, it was just timed, there were no temperature sensors ;-).
You have to be more than drunk for this kind of stuff. You have to add in stupid or crazy. - tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'm surprised it didn't say 'he was a fan of the GTA series' too.
- tkerwin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"The two men were drinking heavily during a barbecue when they got into an argument about whether music should be played on Priestly's PlayStation."
I think _drinking heavily_ is the key element in this. Not the PlayStation. - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Alcohol doesn't "influence" anyone, it just makes the real you come out and play, and in many cases that's a bad thing. To illustrate the flip side of this, I'm a jerk normally, but alcohol makes me mellow and outgoing. That means I'm really an easy-going guy, so everyone who says differently can get off my nutsack already or I'll kill you and your extended family with a rusty spoon.
Okay, where's my beer? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7i bet he has problems beyond games
- anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This will go down in the "video games cause violence" file, yet I am sure the same would have happened if the idiots were arguing about how to use a toaster.
- Farmer77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This article goes to show that alcohol is more dangerous than weed. If these two guys were high instead of drunk, no one would have gotten killed.
- XorSystem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Agreed....
It's humorous to look at it as a PS2 murder issue, but in reality, you had two drunk idiots who could've had a fight about anything, and one ends up killing the other...
On a separate issue, when I was working in the juvenile detention center, there was a kid who 'murdered' his uncle for something similar. They were both drinking (he was 16, his uncle was 40 something) and his uncle wanted to use his Gameboy Advance. They started fighting over it, he hit his uncle and knocked him unconscious.... the kid left his uncle outside overnight where his uncle died of hypothermia....
overall moral to the story... consoles suck... - aschwartzwald, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This has nothing to do with Sony fanboyism.
This is just another example of a stupid argument between two drunks that happened to be too close to a gun. - ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That's an excellent point. I wonder if they called the Deltona, FL murders the "Xbox murders" like the other news sites did. I'm betting not.
- kmonihen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"How does sensational crap like this make the homepage? Are you kidding me?"
Yeah, Really. I hate stories that are framed like this. I mean, the guy wasn't killed over a PS2, he was killed because his friend was UNSTABLE/INSANE! - rugby1970, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Agreed. Why doesn't the headline read "Man Murders Friend While Loaded On Budwieser"? That would make more sense than blaming it on Playstation. Using videogame violence to grab headlines has got to stop.
- Green14, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No Digg from me, I do not want to promote any more bad press against video games. Also this is going to get bad press not because they were drunk, but because it involved video games.
- DrAegoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks like they did:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9844865/
Apparently their search just makes it hard to find. You can read whatever you want into that. - clementi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, let's be honest. He was killed by an unstable, insane person over an argument about how to use a PS2.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I know EXACTLY what will solve this problem!
GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION! - AngryBacon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, according to the article, they were drunk of their asses! Of course, the headline focuses on the PlayStation.
- thestorey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3cool we got rid of one of them if only he killed himself afterword....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3guns should have built on breath analyzers
as i think "drinking heavily" had a lot to do with it.
ps not totally serious on the analyser so no need to point out facts about how bad that would be if you needed the gun quick. - zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i know the triangle, square, circle and x buttons aren't the most intuitive to understand but jeeze. this guy went a little overboard! ;p
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3OMG, what a retard! :P
- wolfkeeper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Guns don't kill people, PS2s do.
- SenatorPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bet the guy didn't want to stop playing GTA to put the music in.
- XorSystem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ effektz
The console part was a joke... if you reread my post, I said that they were two drunk idiots who would have probably killed each other over anything....
kthxbye - breakfast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Probably a dispute over whether you should flip the switch on the back or hold the reset button.
- DoctorEvil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And in further news police say they discovered a copy of the #1 selling Grand Theft Auto on the scene, proving in fact that violent video games kill!
- LDinOR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ahh, magic alcohol! It makes all reason disappear and conjures up vile anger. No wonder it is legal and the peaceful high is not.
- Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2hmmm, i live in columbus, ga and haven't heard of this.
- bashar129, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you columbus guys need to lay off the games for a little bit.
- burnt1ce85, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2LoL.. he may have purposely have done that mistake.. we may never know
- dWhisper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MSNBC actually stays pretty unpartisan, surprisingly. They had the analyst report about a possible Vista delay, even though Microsoft denied it.
- Vlatro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, I am a "paranoid right-wing psycho", and I'm happy to admit it. However in spite of our differences concerning political ideology, I grateful for the fact that we both share a mutual hatred for those two freedom hating publicity whores (Hillary Clinton and Jack Thompson). As for Tom Cruise, who cares? Scientology, my only issue with that is that I didn't think of it first, I could've been rich.
Getting back to the issue at hand, the shooter was an *****. End of Story. It's not the playstation's fault, not the beer's fault. This was a sick man. Sick meaning he disgusts me, not to say he should have psychiatric excuses made for him. He's a murder, plain and simple. Eye for an eye, kill him. That's justice. - windex99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well, it's not going to stop, and neither is the decline of this website.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Good job, now he's going to sue Digg for defamatory comments, which will cause this page to be locked down by DIGG-OFFICE and replaced with happy content declaring love for Jack Thompson.
- chris86wm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2.....Well in this case a PS2 did.
Maybe you should read the story? - MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, he missed him on the first shot, but once he got the crosshair worked out with the joystick, it was all over.
