- CrimsonBlur, on 10/12/2007, -12/+376Disgusting. Why the hell is video game violence even called into question in instances like this? It has nothing to do with the violence IN THE GAME, and it has everything to do with the violent tendencies OF THE PERSON when things piss them off. Period.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -23/+145OH, man. This ***** needs the chair!
- mightymouse, on 10/12/2007, -7/+111REMEMBER PEOPLE: CORRELATION vs. CAUSATION.
The vid games didn't cause the death of his daughter, his twisted mentality did. - friend18, on 10/12/2007, -12/+108If his violence was caused by Ghost Recon he would have called his wife to flank left while he tosses a flash.
- Steelfox, on 10/12/2007, -10/+99Video games don't even ***** matter here. The guy is a ***** disgrace of a human and deserves to be eternally tortured. ***** horrible.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -8/+76A ***** sperm donor. Any asshat can donate some sperm, it takes a man to be a daddy.
- Godlesswanderer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+66Holy *****. I admit this is a terrible thing but it is most likely no way connected to any video games. My best guess is he was a psycho in the first place.
The way he talked about it kind of shows it.
"She pulled the cord and the whole game console fell over. I thought it was broken. I popped her in the face. I picked her up and tossed her in a chair."
Who would even think of popping their 17 month old daughter in the face? - Ciebergasm, on 10/12/2007, -8/+52Last time she was 3 months old and it was a Playstation 2...
- dan8302, on 10/12/2007, -8/+42Fire up old sparky, this guy is going to fry
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30*sniffs the air*
I smell something... is that... could that be... Jack Thompson?
Oh yes, definetly, Jacky boy is incoming on this one. - soulscreme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28No, the Philadelphia Inquirer is NOT a tabloid. I live in Philadelphia, it's the biggest newspaper in the city. Also, this article is inaccurate. The Inquirer did NOT link the death to video game playing. It simply reported to man's statement about what happened. I guess they should have just left out what led up to him murdering his baby. I mean, I hate the media's portrayal of video game violence, but this is simply honest reporting on a murder.
- kingace, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26You son of a bitch.
- Sakumi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Such a sad story... I wouldn't blame the game, but I'd blame him for being a ***** douche. Now he gets to live the rest of his life knowing he killed his own daughter in a temper tantrum - oh not to mention some jail time with Bubba.
I feel for the Mother most of all. - imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13On top of the jail-only time, give each cell around him an Xbox, and deny him one.
- theojanke, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15What the ***** does that have to do with it?

"What the ***** does that have to do with it?"
Don't know what the parent poster meant by it, but it means he'll qualify for the black rage defense.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_rage_(law) - BenWhitey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Well said. If you read the article that is cited it specifically notes that he was playing a "violent video game."
You hear about all the times that people who play violent games kill people. What about all the people who play violent game and DON'T kill people? How many of us are there? I think there are a few more of us than of killer gamers. I mean, if there weren't then they would eventually run out of people to kill. - amoirae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10For those who can't read: he killed his daughter two months ago.
She was born on March 29, 2005. She was 17 months old when she died.
It's all in the article from the Philadelphia Inquirer.

DO THE MATH. - maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Jack Thompson just had a massive orgasm
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Life in prison, no parole.
- cjbowser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Before they ship him off to prison, they should bust up his xbox in front of him during the sentencing phase. It seems to be the only thing he cares about.
- vagarach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Exactly, I doubt there is anything more they can give for this.
- ThePhilomath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"It's the same argument people use against hallucinogenic drugs--they'll make you crazy."
Hallucinogenic drugs alter your brain chemistry (mainly serotonin), which changes the functioning of the neurons in the brain. Often, the effect is to overstimulate neurons, which can lead to cell death.
If you repeat that enough times with a large enough dose then lasting degenerative effects in the brain will occur. Cells use a complex set of chemical signals to basically communicate with each other; hallucinogenic drugs effect this communication and definitely CAN result in mental illness in extreme cases (Consult the DSM-IV for drug-induced disorders if you don't believe me). - dan8302, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9He won't last long in prison
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This is gut wrenching. I am 21, and have an 18 mo old daughter. I'd never hit her, especially not for shutting off my game console. In fact, I don't play games when she's around. I parent her.
- mhensley1288, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12and what the ***** does that have to do with it?
- JackHallows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@beotch:
Don't have kids. - RocketSeason, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Call me crazy, but when I hear that a man killed his daughter after she knocked over his x-box, I don't immediatly think, "What game was he playing?"
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Pimp hand is for bitches 12 and up. Get real, dude.
- DarthNuts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5He should be sent to Iraq as a mine sweeper.
The Mom shouldn't have had this moron's baby in the first place. - SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Popped her in the face"!? Guys like these are the ones that should be born neutered.
- groupofone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No way should this guy get life.
No way should this guy get the chair.
No way should this guy get lethal injection.
He should be destined for 'Will It Blend.'
Nationally televised PPV. Proceeds go to a child abuse org or some other worthy charity. If you don't advocate that, then proceeds go to nationalizing chemical castration to clean up the damn gene pool.
Effin' insane. Guy deserves to die a thousand deaths. - JackHallows, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You're going to hell.
- grammarpolice, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Dude I feel sorry for you, and instead of giving you the satisfaction of being dugged down im going to promote you so people see what kind of ***** bag you really are.
- Dufresne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this made the front page ages ago. But, since there was a comment on the old one that I really like and got tons of diggs, I will repeat it.
This man deserves to be incarcerated in public, extinguished right before he dies, then incarcerated again every month. - Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Many people have a predisposition towards 'snapping' when interrupted from a concentration intensive activity. This includes reading a book, programming, doing a puzzle, playing chess, and many other activities that don't promote violence so much as put a person into a very focussed state of mind - a category that computer games fit into.
I recall hearing stories about how a woman was interrupted from sewing and murdered her husband (though I can't provide any evidence, so that can be treated hypothetically). You don't hear anybody talking about how sewing promotes violence in people. Or talking on a telephone. I'm fairly certain that a massive massive percentage of committers of violent crimes since the telephone was invented have been committed by telephone users.
That some amount of people who have exhibited violent behaviour after playing a game only points out the high level of penetration into society that computers and gaming consoles have managed to achieve.
This has far more to do with his personality and the investment of attention he had placed in what he was doing than whether or not he was playing a violent game. - devindotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Scarllotti: "Another ***** that needs a rope around his neck"?
Sounds like you're not much better than the baby-killer. Welcome to the block list. - wookiekiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Now why is everyone so worried about KIDS acting violently because of video games when you have adults like this? Give me a ***** break.
- KniteWulf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5There needs to be a bury option saying "Horrible story"
Choose whatever definition of horrible you want. I don't want to digg this. - lagnut, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7This is one case where the use of the word '*****' is justified
- SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No, because a person like that is predisposed to violence, and would never play Wii sports in the first place. The Ghost Recon didn't make him kill his daughter, but a person that violent in the first place is more likely to play GR than Wii sports.
- psbpv3o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3One time my dog chewed up my memory card with ff7 (almsot finished) legend of dragoon (half way through) and mgs (not very far but still about 45 minutes into it) and I got really mad, and then remembered he was a dog and didn't understand so I just swatted his nose and told him bad boy 4 times. I have self control.
- benji1974, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This was posted yesterday on another thread.
http://www.digg.com/gaming_news/Xbox_360_linked_to_childs_death - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i'll get dugg the ***** down for this, but that never stopped me before,
i think in a way it was good that the girl died because now she won't have to grow up with that total asswipe masquerading as a father. in a way, her life was saved. yeah, i believe in an afterlife. though i also totally think that it is wrong that ***** are allowed to have babies in the 1st place. - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dictionary definition:
psychopath
Someone with a sociopathic personality; a person with an antisocial personality disorder ('psychopath' was once widely used but has now been superseded by 'sociopath')
Will someone explain for us poor autistic types how someone "antisocial" can have the social capacity to entice and keep around the baby's mother?
Dictionary definition:
autism
(psychiatry) an abnormal absorption with the self; marked by communication disorders and short attention span and inability to treat others as people - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well he DID have a daughter and a wife, which is something.
- revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6@ floridiot
I don't think many people get it.
Hint: Kramer - imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Right away it seems the mom is blaming the game system, or some other outside force, because her husband would never hurt a child.
From the News10 site; "NBC 10 reporter Deanna Durante said a note on the door of the North Philadelphia row-home Monday night said not to judge Spellman because he would never hurt a child. " - rmtatum, on 03/22/2008, -0/+2She's not just a "headline". You disgust me with your disdain for life. Life must be vindicated. Criminals must be punished.
