- FurtThePirate, on 01/04/2008, -2/+52you know with this type of an article you'd expect at least one picture of him...
- wild, on 01/04/2008, -9/+39lol
Honest my ass. He is a PR tool, not much more. He isn't some secret insider or your friend in the know. He is just a guy to tow the company line in a cool, "hip" way. - slightlygifted, on 01/04/2008, -5/+27yes because every single microsoft worker plans to kill your family, friends and dog.
/sarcasm - inactive, on 01/04/2008, -1/+19Stop yelling at me!
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -2/+20All the teenagers on Digg have this notion that anyone working for a corporation is also therefore "working for the man" and since all corporations are bad (exception on Digg: Apple) they are therefore "evil" or "PR tools."
- Christbait, on 01/04/2008, -7/+25He works for one of the largest tech corporations in the world, so what? Shall we all hate him just for that? He is helpful and provides a trusty bridge between the product and the consumers.
***** put the Green Day CD down and get some fresh air. - widgetmaker, on 01/04/2008, -1/+16They'll grow out of it when actually get a job.
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -3/+17Why didn't you just email Bill Gates? After all, it's as much his problem that you don't have your gamerpoints as it is Major Nelson's. Seriously, harassing someone just because they're vaguely related to your problem is a stupid thing to do and even stupider to complain about not getting a response afterwards.
- needid07, on 01/04/2008, -4/+16Is that his job?
No, and even if he could do you think he would help every kid who spams his inbox? - exomni, on 01/04/2008, -2/+13Compared to Ken Kutagari or Jack Tretton he's a ***** saint.
- Cowfrommars, on 01/04/2008, -1/+11What, just now?
- slightlygifted, on 01/04/2008, -3/+11blogs are far from hip and cool.
- chedabob, on 01/04/2008, -0/+6Or, you know, you could stop being so shallow? I'd rather have a not very "attractive" community member, than some dumb actor that doesn't even know what an Xbox is.
- smackafiyah, on 01/04/2008, -4/+10Burried for not showing the full body of that model in that picture *diggs for trying*
- SSUK, on 01/04/2008, -1/+6I wouldn't be so quick to point out other's sexuality (especially when not true), when you yourself seem to fantasise about black, homosexual men...
- deznice, on 01/04/2008, -6/+10dude, you're an ass! Nintendo not competition? And Sony does suck, Sony is out to rip off the consumer at every point in an electronics sale, any geek knows that. I find it interesting that he owns an Apple Mac, and he actually looks like a normal person
- lcmatt, on 01/04/2008, -2/+6Act your age then. Major Nelson doesn't deal with account management so you emailing him wouldn't have done jack all anyway.
- dvandewalle, on 01/04/2008, -1/+5i like the idea of the major, having a regular joe that tries to interact with the community and have a frank voice, but his podcast has gone down hill in the last year:
1: way to long, the first hour ends up being him and E or Trixie taking about the last week in their personal lives, the latest big ticket item they bought, or family stuff. i usually only like my podcasts to be around an hour long, and when he started topping out at 2 hours, i lost interest.
2: starting to just be a PR mouthpiece. in the xbox 1 days he would admit to something being wrong, and say he was looking into it, AND THEN GET BACK TO US AS TO WHAT THEE PROBLEM WAS. now he dances around the issue (see red ring of death) giving corporate speak on how it is "isolated incidents" that is until corporate comes out and extends the warranty, then he is all over how good a company MS is for stepping-up to the plate.
3: bashing the competition. EVERY slip-up nintendo or sony do he jumps on harsh. when he first started he was very vocal about it just wanting to be a video game podcast with him having an insiders prospective. he even wanted to get sony and nintendo people on the podcast. now he just snickers whenever he hears about the wii shortage (or makes sure to ask anyone that mentions having one how little they actually play it) or brags about how sony is copying them.
4: the after show. if it ment something i would be into it, but basically it is just him saying "how cool was it that i just talked about this 5 minutes earlier" instead of "here's more audio from that interview" or "here's what happened after the interview was over"
used to like it, but haven't listened in well over 3 months now, and don't miss it. still subscribe to his RSS, but more for the release stuff. he always stated that it was his own show that MS had no control over, but you can really see that isn't the case anymore. i understand he is a huge fanboy, i would be too, but he needs to get back to the indie roots and move away from just being about press releases and spin. - chedabob, on 01/04/2008, -0/+4Just because he works for Microsoft, doesn't mean he has to only buy Microsoft stuff. Bungie have Gamecubes in their offices.
- CollapseControl, on 01/04/2008, -4/+7I'm listening to his Podcast now, first one i've listened to in a while because i'm REALLY interested in what he has to say about this past few days.
Despite having problems and getting on my nerves, Xbox LIVE is a great service.
And to anyone who is against the Xbox 360 & XBL, the whole problem came from a HUGE amount of new gamers logging in! Sounds like a lot of people are picking up on this great service. - Nekura20x6, on 01/04/2008, -1/+4Emerges? That's practically his freakin' job title! He is head of Community Relations for the Xbox. While I usually like listening to what he has to say, there are times when it's painfully obvious his corporate masters are pulling the strings. One great example was when Epic wanted to release add-on content for Gears of War for free and MS told them they couldn't. He was forced to come out, tap dance around, and make that sound like less of a douchey move. (All it did was make me embarrassed for him.)
- dbrodbeck, on 01/04/2008, -2/+5I have met a few people from MS that work in the games research unit, they seem to be pretty cool guys actually.
- exomni, on 01/04/2008, -5/+8Does anybody else wish they picked just slightly more attractive people to do the Xbox News thing on the dashboard? Or didn't do it in HD or something?
Seriously... Major Nelson is a saggy eyed basset hound without the cuteness factor, and Trixie is just ***** scary.
If you're going to spew a bunch of stupid marketing hype *****, you have to at least be pleasant to look at. Don't take me the wrong way: I'm sure Major Nelson is fine in person, but when you have big ugly close-ups of his wrinkled face on your HDTV... not so much. - ByteGuerilla, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3He's still snowboarding.
- Repeater2000, on 01/04/2008, -2/+5Propers to Major, he is one of the first podcasts I ever heard and I still enjoy it despite him being a company man.
- charlescheese, on 01/04/2008, -1/+3No kidding, I had to go to youtube and watch major's minute to see what he looked like. From their description I was expecting Clint Eastwood or Cool Hand Luke.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oOE2YSZgtBQ&feature= ... - NSNick, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2At least they own up to their mistakes (with the extended RRoD warranty), unlike Sony and their horrible first run PS2s.
- BearinG, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2Do you make formal complaints about changing the law to the guy driving around handing out parking tickets?
- dvandewalle, on 01/04/2008, -1/+3if he pops his head out of the trench, he deserves to get shot at.
- ahhell, on 01/04/2008, -1/+3Uh...you're going to blame a PR figurehead for the problems that you are experiencing?
Are you ***** serious? - adamuffa, on 01/04/2008, -2/+4I'd like to know why he got his account canceled. Or better yet, why anyone would email major nelson anything regarding technical support.
- wire02, on 01/04/2008, -7/+9I think you're thinking of Jobs
- Ethion, on 01/04/2008, -2/+4Check for yourself.
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/PlayerStatsHalo3.aspx? ... - chedabob, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2Clearly you did something wrong, because my card bounced for 4 months and they didn't deactivate my account.
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1NO *****, SHERLOCK!!!!
- saintfu, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1That wasn't my point.
I don't really care what system/OS he uses to perform his job. My complaint is that he is whining about having a broken computer in the "woways me" tone when the platform that he represents has been broken for days, alienating a lot of customers. He was using his Twitter site to inform people about the status of Live and the steps being taken to repair it, and he should have been more professional and realized that there were bigger problems at hand other than his borked up Mac.
That's my problem with Major. He is much too full of himself to be successful in the position he has been bestowed. - phre3k187, on 01/04/2008, -1/+2exactly.. pics or it didnt happen
- woohhaa, on 01/04/2008, -1/+2They better keep the ***** away from my dogs...
- needid07, on 01/04/2008, -1/+2He left to make zune years ago....
- fani, on 01/04/2008, -3/+4Now I know whom to blame for all the Xbox Live problems.
After the latest fall dashboard update, my Xbox boots and just spins for a a long time ( like 30sec-1min) before it even displays the blade fully.
ANNOYING. Whoever was responsible for the latest update and for the Xbox live outage issues of past week should be given a thorough beating. - deznice, on 01/04/2008, -1/+2maybe her did sne dit on, and tis sounds like your fault dude
- nfollmer, on 01/04/2008, -1/+2Wonder if he knows how they can fix Xbox Live? That'll make him hip!
- drakia, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1*****, that's the definition of unkempt hair these days? I don't wanna know what you'd consider mine on an off day.
- Philbert, on 01/05/2008, -0/+1I'm sure he had a little help from Jeannie
- alx242, on 01/05/2008, -0/+1Sounds more like some companies doesn't run well prepared servers...:/
Not surprised! - rowlodge, on 01/05/2008, -0/+1roger wilko...
- leobebes, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Major Nelson and Trixie may be not the most attractive people in the world, I am pretty sure they are self aware of that fact, but they do come across as genuinely nice people who enjoy what they do and are passionate about the community they work for. Not like those cardboard cut outs they have on those cheesy entertainment shows that put on a fake smile so the sponsors aren't offended.
- NSNick, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1I complain about laws to McGruff the Crime Dog, personally.
- chedabob, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Twitter is his own, personal feed. If you want Live updates, read his blog, or go on Xbox.com
And he works in the Xbox Live section of Microsoft. He has absolutely nothing to do with Windows.
If you dislike the guy, then just say that, instead of whining about nothing. - stellar91, on 02/01/2008, -0/+0it's easy for everyone on the web to bash a guy like major nelson,,when was the last time you devoted YOUR time to volunteer to work for your job for FREE ? but for someone to offer their personal time and effort to produce a podcast that usually has really good information on it, despite the fact that he may seem sometimes like a corporate puppet. You gotta understand his voice is heard by tons of people and if he was obnoxious and said some off color remarks ( similar to the majority of live players ) I'm sure Mr. Gates would pull the plug and send him swimming with the fishes with Jimmy Hoffa. its the CYA clause folks. I still appreciate all the insight from listening.
