MS' Aaron Greenberg: "the pressure is now really on [Sony]"
destructoid.com — Destructoid has published an exclusive interview with Aaron Greenberg, Group Product Manager for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, that discusses the overwhelming sales success of GTA IV. Greenberg also slams Sony for what he sees as an endless string of delays and broken promises, and asserts that the Xbox brand will continue to dominate through 2008.

- wardrox, on 05/09/2008, -3/+8"It is kind of funny because we have been asked by a number of partners if there was a way we would license Xbox LIVE to other platforms to ensure a great online experience in every game."
Nice and subtle there. Great read.- estvir, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1When are they going to give us Live Anywhere? :/ And make it available on the Zune too..
- triplehelix, on 05/09/2008, -11/+9continue to dominate? the ps3 has been outselling the 360 globally since 12/07.
- username9000, on 05/09/2008, -3/+4Yeah its still MILLIONS in sales behind the 360. Get it? Its called sales figures. Not last weeks....overall. By the time Sony catches up it will be time for the next gen. Sony lost their insane lead in console supremacy this gen because their product blows. I know, I have one. I am sick of waiting for these great games that never come out.
- WhereAmI, on 05/09/2008, -4/+2So Sony is a failure because it can't outsell the 360 overnight? The PS3 outsold in the EUR/Other region, in case you didn't know. Now whats left is America.
No, you don't have a PS3.- B1663r, on 05/09/2008, -2/+2And the US market is bigger than Europe and Japan combined in non-nintendo sales. So... What was your point again???
- username9000, on 05/09/2008, -2/+1I don't know why it is so hard for you to believe I own a PS3 WhereAmI. Basically I bought it for the Sony exclusives. I purchased the 60 gig model from sonystyle with that credit card deal....ended up getting it for $350.00 You can bet your ass if it wasn't for that deal I never would have bought one. When Sony steps up and does something worth mentioning other than upscaling my DVD's to 1080p, I will talk it up.
The games I have played the most are Everyday Shooter and I played through all of the others i own once (heavenly sword, uncharted, resistance, ratchet and i just got hot shots golf)
There is no multiplayer worth mentioning except for Warhawk and COD4, GTA (when it works). PSN is a joke compared to xbox live. I have 40-50 friends I play with on xbox live depending on games, whereas I have ONE friend on PSN...how many real friends do you even know that own a PS3? I know zero.

- username9000, on 05/09/2008, -1/+1btw, hot Shots Golf does not have voice support online either. GAY. There are several games that don't utilize voice chat during games. Call me when every game does like xbox live.
- KingGoonie, on 05/09/2008, -1/+2#1 Like the person above said, the U.S. market is BY FAR the biggest market in the world. Also I believe the UK is the biggest individual European market, and 360 is still ahead in UK sales as well.. .
And overnight?!?!?! You do realize it will take about 5 YEARS for the PS3 to catch up, in which case the 360 will be on to its net console probably. I love the whole "will eventual take the lead arguement" Not to hard to take the lead over the wii and 360 2 years after the wii2 and 720 came out

- triplehelix, on 05/11/2008, -1/+1what i get is that the 360 was out for a year before the ps3, and the 360 has only managed to hold onto about half of the sales lead it established that first year
the ps3 has been outselling the 360 globally by a nice margin for months now. "continue to dominate" doesn't mean watch your lead erode as you continually get outsold, except in the world of marketing spin, which you seem more then happy to swallow hook line and sinker.

- iceooo3, on 05/09/2008, -12/+10LMAO, how about focus on your own product nowadays, you still have a lofty hardware issue in almost every crapbox ***** you sell. Continue to dominate nothing, the ps3 is now catching up quickly, and by this time next year will have surpassed. Lets hope that next box your working on does actually come with some sort or reliability clause, or a warrenty that doesnt need extended after the fact.
Congrats though, you have sold your lie of a system to countless 12 year olds across the world, you've made their parents spend their hard earned cash on a system that fails on an epic level. You win, for sure. - diabolicdiablo, on 05/09/2008, -3/+10“- didn’t Sony promise all of this last year including Home as well? We have been fighting Sony’s promises from the day we entered the market and if you remember at that time it was all about PS2 being an online cybercity with partner announcements from the likes of RealNetworks and AOL. Then three years ago at E3 they showed what PS3 games would supposedly look like with the Killzone 2 video, that we are now learning will ship four years later.”
I would say, as a general rule: if you hold a high level position in any corporation, you should not publicly criticize your company’s competition. That goes for MS and Sony.- B1663r, on 05/09/2008, -2/+2Have any of the games from those e3 2005 bullshots even come close to what is released? Even one?
- Wiinii, on 05/09/2008, -5/+8"The days of Sony snowing the consumers and the press are over"
I highly doubt that. - jacksons98, on 05/09/2008, -5/+5Last year MS could afford to be arrogant they were top dog, now not so much. They have their own problems to deal with.
- username9000, on 05/09/2008, -3/+3Last year MS had RROD to deal with. You sir, are retarded. This year's xbox exclusive lineup is just as impressive as Sony's......espescially when you consider Killzone 2 (the game Sony touted a year before their console came out) will not be realeased until 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- WhereAmI, on 05/09/2008, -4/+2I personally dont care about Killzone 2 When I know Resistance 2 will be better anyway and is out this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!x10^666
- B1663r, on 05/09/2008, -2/+4Yeah, the end all be all shooter at the end of this year is gonna be GOW2. Not gonna be close.
- estvir, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1There's a countdown to a simple trailer for GoW2. As B1663r, I can't think of any FPS that will eclipse GoW2.

- shinythingy, on 05/09/2008, -4/+3Personally i think that Nintendo have to do something really great. I'm not feeling the Wii at all, they need more great games from third parties instead of relying on Mario and Zelda. They need to create some new IP's that actually mean something. Wii Fit? Come on, that doesn't cater to me as a gamer. Sure it does to mom's,but it doesn't cut it.
- dig1x, on 05/10/2008, -0/+0Really, this will work out for the Wii too.
Multi-platform 3rd party games are going to get better if they have to be marketed against the non-Newton Xbox 360 games.
The one thing I predict: Sony has to come up with the same thing quick or be left out in the cold.
- dig1x, on 05/10/2008, -0/+0Really, this will work out for the Wii too.
- doshindude, on 05/09/2008, -5/+2In other news: the Wii continues to trump them both in sales.
- B1663r, on 05/09/2008, -0/+3But not in game. Being a gamer, I don't really care about sales, I care about game.
- KingGoonie, on 05/09/2008, -3/+1And the wii has the best games, followed closely by 360.. PS3 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY behind considering the PPS3/360 multiplatform games for the most part are better on 360... And exclusives Wii pretty much is the best.... so what does PS3 have? Not best exclusives, or second best exclusives... not best multiplatform... what a horrible system
- dig1x, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1The idea that "teh wii has the best games" is folly. The wii has *the same games as it always has* now with wiimote control.
The only thing I've found worth playing (that includes sports, play, SMG and SSBB) on the Wii is a Cabela's hunting game. - estvir, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2The Wii has the best games? That's funny, I wasn't aware BioShock, Lost Odyssey, Halo3, GoW, Eternal Sonata, GTA IV and a boatload of other games were available on it.
All the Wii has are a few first party titles from Nintendo (Mario 53, Zelda 23 and another Mario 34B) and 1 or 2 third-party titles.

- Topher06, on 05/09/2008, -6/+5This guy is doing what manager's do best, loving the stink of their own sh*t.
This is also a classic MS response when they suddenly don't have clear dominance in a market, take the competitor's product and try and rip it to shreads, but only echo their own concerns and misgivings for their own products.
But this was expected after Sony's Playstation Day's expo this week. Microsoft just had to draft up some smack talk so they can remain relavent in gaming this year. I mean, what is coming down the pipe's for the Xbox360 that matches the same excitement and anticipation of being offer by Sony? Ah, yeah, nothing. Sony is doing better in its 1.5 years anniversary then the Xbox360 was in the same time interval, and Sony is still just picking up momentum.- B1663r, on 05/09/2008, -1/+3Actually Sony has a significant BD drive failure problem starting to errupt. RROD absolutely killed Microsofts momentum last year and they are just starting to recover from it. When consumers start to learn that their 400 bd player lasts just past the end of the warranty with typical use, how do you suppose they are gonna react?
- dig1x, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1Lets see if Sony gives everyone a free replacement for 3 years.
I've got 3 dead playstation 2s in my closet, somehow I doubt they'll come to help the customers.

Really 2007? Hmmm, so 2 years later... errr, what?- triplehelix, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1you didn't realize that crystal balls are standard issue for all MS marketing employee's?
