- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -11/+49legal? we don't need no stinking legality!
Honestly, this site is perfectly acceptable on digg. We're not a lot of do-gooders here, and some of us enjoy these "semi-legal" things. There are absolutely no restrictions on the types of sites that can be submitted to digg, as exemplified by the numerous hacking and less-than-legal subjects that make it to the front page
Also, abandonware is kind of a gray area in terms of software legality. These pieces of software are no longer being supported by their original developers and publishers, so who's losing out by us downloading these games? Nobody's really losing money here, because these games are no longer viable as a retail game in most cases
(by the way, this is an AMAZING abandonware site. It's a great alternative now that Home of the Underdogs is down) - Ralphy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26I don't wanna bury you :(
Kevin, your next move with digg is to let us delete our own posts :)
This post is getting so burried :) - ElGuano, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Really? You must be young. Correspondingly, I must be old. Sigh.
- omnicore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You may have to use the DosBox emulator.
- acidjedi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8or ScummVM
http://www.scummvm.org/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Legal, probably not!
However, if I wanted to play these games where on earth could I buy them any more??
So as far as I'm concerned they're fair game! There is no money changing hands so nobodymakes money out of making these classics available. - Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Boy, are you ever wrong. Have you no clue as to how many times ScummVM has been downloaded, or the coverage it gets?!!?
- chopstickhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Google Cache: http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:ysWhn2a4sLoJ:www.agamesroom.com/page/list/sierra+&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=firefox-a
- definiteform, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8And it's already dead. :/
- Nitro420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Do these run properly on modern hardware?
- ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Digg because Sam and Max kicks total ass.
- obscured, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it got canned... and it's such a shame cause full throttle was such a great game.
- Ralphy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Number Munchers was FREAKEN AWESOME!!!!
- ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5*iamtheratio has died from snake bite.
- dachicken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5TIE Fighter brings back some memories....
Nostalgia is a bitch. - hecatomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Full Throttle 2 kinda fell apart when the guy that did the voice for Ben passed away...
I played Full Throttle on ScummVM about 2 months ago... ran fine.
Edit: oops, just noticed Blankman's post down further... - blankman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Full Throttle is the best game ever made! I still have the original CD and it still works in Windows XP using ScummVM
- Thundercat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Lumiras: I agree with the belief that abandoned software should be released to the general public, so that at least people can enjoy it. However, your logic is flawed: "Nobody's really losing money here, because these games are no longer viable as a retail game in most cases." Not necessarily true. There's future potential value. Those who own the rights to many older things find new profit in re-releasing their "classic" property for public consumption. Just because a certain amount of time passes where you don't go play in your backyard, doesn't mean it becomes public property.
Seriously, I really wish Vivendi/Sierra would simply release their old games for everyone to enjoy--it'd be the kind thing to do, but we can't argue that they're free just because they haven't done so. - loup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wine has been ported to Mac OS X, the project is called darwine, it can be found at http://darwine.opendarwin.org
- shaun944, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3how does a funny Sam and Max reference get dugg down?
- calhoun, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7No no you're not going to get buried if you *say* you're going to get buried. You may or may not be buried if you ask to be, I think it depends on your tone.
I'm sure you could find out a lot about reverse psychology and group think by watching the comments on Digg....
So will I get buried? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's the IP for the website... their file server has a different IP.
When you goto download it'll crap out.
If you want to mess with your host file, here's all the IPs:

- jgreath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does Full Throttle run well on ScummVM? I hadn't had much luck with it and DosBox a while back (though I should try it with the new 0.65).
Full Throttle + Sam & Max = Kick-Ass Games
And whatever happened to Full Throttle 2? - Ralphy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Aww google, I love you
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Well your an idiot then
- iamtheratio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Kings Quest! Haha.
That makes me want to download all those old cheesy middle school games like Treasure Mountain, Number Munchers, and the original Oregon Trail. - StealthTomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You, sir, should learn to speak for yourself.
- adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My interest in computer games died with the extinction of Graphic Adventure Games by the hands of first person shooters.
This is parallel to the movie industry where action movies always make more money than films with compelling story lines.
Look behind you, a three headed monkey. :-( - DNABeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2True abandonware is legal. Sierra were always pretty good about this stuff. If my memory serves me correctly they provided the first three Kings Quest games for free on their site. I also beleive that Betrayal at Krondor and Kings Quest 6 or 7 have both turned up on the front of magazines for free.
- iamtheratio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The google cache link didnt hit you in the face on your way down to comment?
- dazzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that's too easy to say that there aren't any good games left.
lately alot of good adventures are being made for instance a german game called ankh lucasarts style point click,
and there are even rumours of a new version of monkey island and a new version of full trottle but this one was cancelled or delayed (don't know) - naien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gobli(ii)ns was my favorite; no Indiana Jones?! Day of the Tentacle?!
- darthsnoopy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Awesome oregon trail tribute on Episode 3 of Downstairs Theater (http://www.downstairstheater.com). Pretty much nails it.
Number munchers...forgot about that game. They even have games like that in schools now, or do they just teach HTML/CSS and such? I certainly dont miss the hours spent learning friekin PASCAL, but Logo was damn fun :) - Tiphys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If it weren't for Digg you wouldn't have seen the page in the first place, you ingrate.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1site has been digg :-
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The site is down and they've posted a message stating that they don't intend to put it back up.
Thanks a bunch, guys. - wcooley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about the Coral cache instead? Seems to work a little better. http://www.agamesroom.com.nyud.net:8090/page/list/sierra
- vaxguru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3site has been digg-f***ed...:(
- darthsnoopy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think its hysterical to see how many comments are getting modded down, presumably because so many think that a bunch of rubbish is getting posted...but the fans of the sierra lucasarts games are all getting chuckles cause they know the story behind them.
"Ken sent me". "Guybrush Threepwood" "Dont be a tunahead" FTW :) - futurekill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't see Sam & Max or Full Throttle there... :(
- DNABeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where-as this generation of typists train on SMS.
OMGROFLBBL!!1!one! - crazybubs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The site is back up, password for all games is monolith.
- ToddFFW, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3snakes on a plane man...
- Drood, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Erm... The site has been deleted while I was viewing it. None of the links worked so I reloaded the page, and it's all 404...
- monkeymad2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You cant download them on the cache though...shame.
Anyone know anywhere else to get that leisure suite Larry game ? :P
('least I'm honest.) - ZekeSulastin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The sad thing is, I played and enjoyed every single game you mentioned :P
Those were fun educational games ... anyone remember the Dr. Brain series? - newlander, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2anyone know of a way to finagle this onto a mac? i've had and urge to play through some old space quest games for about seven years. nobody can complain about a game that teaches kids to empty waste baskets.
- Satertek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Those compilations have been delayed dozens of times. I think the original release date was somewhere around August 2004...
- kiddailey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2lol - Awesome game. Don't flush the toilet.
Edit: I guess you got un-dugg because nobody got the reference, which was the first Leisure Suit Larry by Sierra -
