- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+84One does not simply walk into Mordor... unless they really want to agro some high-level and very hungry monsters.
- flernk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+59Mordor is currently unavailable due to maintenance. The Great Eye apologizes for this unexpected downtime and thanks you for your patience.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22The application process is open. i.e. "opens up free beta"
"sign up now" leads to "soon be playing" - merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16The application process has been open since last summer. The game is no more open now then it was then.
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I'm in the Beta. If you love WoW and are looking for something different, its for you. If your looking for something...new, don't look here.
On the other hand, the graphics are very nice, realtime water reflections weren't something I was used to for a MMO but in high volume areas it dragged your system to hell...
Personally, I think the MMORPG genre has just gotten over-saturated and nothing truely new or orignal has come out in a while. - CalipsoII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Great movies make great MMPORGS: http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/

oh and @fett101
ZUG ZUG - Danjak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I don't know why people are burying this comment: he's correct.
The title for this is inaccurate. You can apply, but it's not open beta yet. - Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14you can't make me ponder anything
- johnsto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11For F***'s sake, stop spamming that in every damn front page story. You've already submitted the forum to Digg THREE TIMES, and NO ONE CARES. You're still the only person registered on your forum, making it a total of ONE.
We realise you're proud and want it to grow, but spamming (even admitting so) does NOT put you or your forum in a good light. If anything, it makes you and your forum seem even rubbisher.
Sites should grow due to their appeal - just like Digg - but your forum doesn't have any appeal. Neither do you right now.
Stop. - Pissoff, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Dear FarNorthMac
You suck.
Sincerely,
Pissoff - Bean945, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Apparantly my username and email are already signed up to this...
- UltraNurd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If there is anything World of Warcraft has taught me, it's that there are people who delight in corrupting a fictional universe. I don't care that much about the WoW backstories; I grew up loving Tolkien. I would never play this game, because I know other players would make me cry with frustration as the epic fantasy of my youth was torn apart by people yelling "I OWNZ JOO".
- Fett101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Second. Lack of PVP is going to turn off so many people. And not being able to play as the 'bad guys'.. pshh.
For the Horde :D - shadam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I played in the stress test this weekend. I'd love to keep playing it. Was a refreshing change from WoW.
- RunnyBabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Database error. Target destroyed.
- chip0wa, on 10/12/2007, -34/+41open beta isn't until april.... buried.
- cr125er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6God I wish I was a mac gamer. I can't stand all the choices I have as a PC gamer. Life would be so much easier if all I could pick between were WoW and Quake. Curse you options!
- Shirk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Maybe it's just me, but having only 4 playable "good" races seems boring and the class options don't seem that exciting for an MMORPG post WoW.
- twtmc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+69 rings for the {|V|0r7AL_|V|3N} guild, doomed to die.
- AReallyGoodName, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Well he is right, his website doesn't have adds.
I wonder how much the bandwidth will cost him? (/puts a weight on the F5 key and walks away). - shadam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yeah but spam is spam. I understand what you are trying to do. While you may not be out to make money or scam digg, you have to ask yourself "does anyone want/need this?" You should by now understand the nature of websites like digg. Honestly, the majority of people that want to interact in a "forum-esque" nature do so in the comments. Making a separate disjointed website to discuss the topics found here is counterintuitive. The only way a traditional style forum is going to work is if it were fully integrated. But even then, why?
- cassusfett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is inaccurate. The title is implying that open beta has started. Open beta doesn't start until April. You've been able to "Sign up" since May.
- ybrugman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10One Game To Rule Them All?
- JFetch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5We killed it. We are such nerds.
- Satertek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yea they did a great job with AC2 as well. Look how strong its going today.
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Also buried for inaccuracy. Sometimes I long for the good ol days when editors chose stories.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+52007 and still database errors
- davidsmero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4One ring to rule them all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHuvvnSmiOI - spartyms2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can't sign up. My birthday is in February and there's no February in the list of months :(
- RunnyBabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Eh, sure. Since I have so much free time now that I'm not going to be playing this, I'll join you on your epic quest to rid the internet and technology websites of computer nerds, such as my former self.
- phronko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I was in the stress test too. My impression from the early game was that it's WoW in the LOTR universe. Like, EXACTLY WoW in the LOTR universe. Right down to the little details, like rest XP, the way the map looks, everything. I had fun, but as others have mentioned, it's nothing new. Worth signing up for the beta, for sure.
- Jack9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Take your own advice.
- iniquity2007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I signed up for the 'Stress Test' beta and was given a free membership to beta test until April. It's pretty good. Basically, WoW but in Middle Earth with better graphics. Still pretty laggy due to bugs, especially in heavily populated areas...but it's fun and seems pretty good so far.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14Windows only :(
- combustion8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I bet they will add pvp later, they always do.
- brokin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i guess they are over loaded right now i am getting database errors also
- ashefire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Because Mac and Linux versions are the sole reason WoW has been a wildfire success.
- erczilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Do the Hobbits have +5 in weeping ability and +5 in cooking?
- HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Fully agreed. But a word of warning to fans of casting classes......remember that casting spells is NOT common in Middle-Earth. Magic is very rare and subtle. Emphasis on subtle. Unless they changed things significantly since when I played in early beta, this had almost non-existent spell effects. I mean, yeah the casting classes were fun to play....but honestly, half the time I wouldn't even notice the spell effects going off because they were so minimal graphically.
That was ultimately the reason I lost interest. Call me a whore for eye-candy but if a game has magic and powers, they had damn well better be flashy like CoH and WoW to some extent.
Man....if CoH introduced a particle editor for your powers I'd NEVER leave that game. - Neticule, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I hope your joking... I played DDO when it came out... It had a whole 7 hours of gameplay!
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, I heard about this years ago and thought it was long since abandoned
- kurrent, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4i couldn't agree more silent. i see all these people still developing mmo's and they can't hold a grain of salt to WoW and i can't help but wonder wtf they are thinking...who is investing in these? I'm not saying WoW is great either...but they have 90%+ of the marketshare.
- Ericn84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I really wished these games would stop coping the EQ system. It would be nice to have a lot more robust UO style game like it was back in the day. Have a hard to gain skill based system with no levels and you can mold your character however you want with a very dynamic world.
Sure it was a challenging game back in the day but that was what made the game thrilling. I don't really remember the last time I got a rush in a game like I had while playing in UO. It actually meant something if you died with something worthwhile on you=) You learned to be a tight community to support one another or else die from the PK's heh. - MiDri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3AC1 was pretty amazing for when it was released -- they had some neat features that were not advertised like how you could wear clothing over other parts of clothing based on which order you put stuff on. The world changing monthly was pretty sweet to... I remember when they started destroying cities and the shadow gems started popping up...
- silent, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5If your "new" game looks like a bad EQ1 rip at beta, it will probably get horribly murdered by the mmo beast that is blizzard.
Good luck to them, but yikes... it looks weak going into beta.. Warcraft is the mmo standard... - markperia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Database error just after i signed up.
Damn. - GRTWHT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You must have been one of the folks that got such a rush out of waiting around newbie spawns and killing the newly arrived (over and over and over and over and over and...you get the idea). The mandatory PK that allowed this griefing to take place is what (along with all the hacking) ruined UO.
Give us an open-ended, (mostly) class independent, no forced PK (at least at low levels) MMO and you can have a hit. But, instant perma-bans by CC any hackers will be absolutely essential, or it will simply degrade into the useless/uninteresting mess that so many others have. - steven401, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7It's free to sign up, you don't need invites.
- digguh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Turbine's LOTRO Beta Program is only open to residents of North America. If you are a resident of Europe, please sign up for the European Beta Program on the Codemasters LOTRO site at http://www.lotro-europe.com/"
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I keep getting database errors when I try to submit the application.
