- MrSteele, on 10/10/2007, -6/+165This is actually really impressive stuff
- warchant, on 10/10/2007, -6/+90that's just freakin awesome
now i need a fresh pair of pants - Rockmaninoff, on 10/10/2007, -2/+83This newest one is incredible. I really hope this gets off the ground somehow. The shorts are really well done; I just hope that can carry over into a movie.
- airiox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+75Just imagine how awesome a Halo movie could be with this thing short looking real good on a not so big budget.
- codywalton, on 10/10/2007, -4/+70I can't believe a major movie studio turned this down. If this gets made into a full-length film is will make a butt-load of cash. LOTR size cash.
- Kerr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+54They really need to make the movie already...
- RazorElite, on 10/10/2007, -4/+55This vid kicks ass, especially for any Halo fan. Here's to hoping a movie comes out of all of this.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+50I love how they made everything look almost exactly how it does in the game. Screwing something like that up could ruin the movie or even those shorts but they definitely pulled it off really well.
- Jibberwalk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+48Those uhh... those weren't Elites, that's why the looked terrible. They were Brutes.
- cplex, on 10/10/2007, -4/+49I was watching the progress bar at the bottom going "HURRY UP CHIEF, LAND ALREADY!!!". When it ended I almost cried :(
- LaueOfficer, on 10/10/2007, -3/+37"the Elites looked like slow gorillas in plastic armor"
Those were gorillas, basically. They were Brutes, not elites. And the armor isnt supposed to be much, they only use it ceremonially and for rank/ID
"the black/white satellite image was overused (and probably used to hide shoddy set details"
Those were FLIR vision shots. If you go back and watch it, it actually shows more than you could normally see. In those particular shots you can see heat masks through walls, guys under warthogs, the incoming fire esp tracers, etc "overdone"? Maybe, the way you describe it? not at all
your post is horribly ignorant - UwasaWaya, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33This was unbelievable... I've always thought that the ODSTs were the most badass soldiers in Halo, and it's good to see them getting the royal treatment.
Man, they made it look nasty fighting the Brutes.
I cringed at the muffled 'whump' when the Brute failed at rocket dodgeball. - patriotsfan82, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32You do know those were Brutes and not elites right? They don't really use armor, there armor serves only to identify rank for the most part. Thats the reason they looked like slow gorrilas, They are apes in a way.
- BrandoCommando, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32Correction: Neill Blomkamp's not so secret project...
But none the less, this is the 2nd part to the combat short. - krasherspk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24Didn't look that bad to me. I don't know what you are talking about. And besides Lots O' Money Spent != Good Movie.
- Buckiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Yeah but that rocket blast was pretty sweet.
- budgetguitar, on 10/10/2007, -4/+25I don't even own Halo or an Xbox360 but I LOVE this vid. This is some of the best on-screen combat I've seen. I'd even go so far as to say it's on par with some of the 'saving private ryan' and 'band of brothers' combat scenes.
- Paperthin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24those giant gorillas ARE actually giant gorillas....they're brutes...not elites.
- Azerael, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22It's interesting that most of the people who didn't like the film couldn't tell the difference between the Elites and the Brutes.
- LaueOfficer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23"but the Elites looked terrible"
Maybe that's because they were not Elites at all, but Brutes?
kinda changes things, doesnt it? - oRlyFOOL, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20People outside the fan base will still see the movie: something like halo would get a lot of publicity -- and have an over abundance of advertisements, sponsors, and merchandise. It's a movie, not a video game -- there is more access to movie theaters than people with Xbox360's -- you don't have to have a prerequisite to be able to watch/play it. And it is highly likely it would have several Celebrity voice-overs.
- diggnanimous, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Holy crap - that was...so awesome!!! That show last one standing looks pretty cool too. Am definitely watching it to get my code.
- stillasleep00, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Those were Brutes, not Elites.
- zzz@tkz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Brutes. Not Elites.
- crichton101, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20NOES.
- Myonosken, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18It's a made for TV short not a big budget movie series. Give them some leeway for ***** sakes.
- gypsynuke, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21Why is this on the Discovery Channel? Doesn't anyone think that's odd?
- klick37, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18Holy ***** *****, I need to buy a 360.
- wang1011, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Even the brute hammer makes an appearance
- patriotsfan82, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15For all those who are saying otherwise, Technically Peter Jackson does have something to do with these shorts as im 100% sure its WETA doing the effects and whatnot. And since Techincally Peter Jackson was one of the founders of the company, I guarentee you they wouldnt be working on these shorts if it wasnt for Peter Jackson. Without Peter Jackson there would be no WETA involvement, so technically, this does involve Peter.
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Dude, they play shows about ghosts. Shows that pretend ghosts are real.
- swanny89, on 10/10/2007, -18/+29I CAN HAS MOAR?
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Dumbass, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Untitled_Halo_Project
- moskaudancer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11I prefer my films lightly chilled, and served in a brandy snifter.
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12That four minute clip was much more entertaining than all of those movies combined.
- nirav72, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Thats..they were Brutes..Elites are no longer with the Covenant. They had a bit of a disagreement and decided to go their own way. Actually help out the humans for a bit.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13I agree. i would rather not have it done at all than have it done looking like crap. that short was amazing though.
- teamparadox, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Now that we know it was Brutes not elites maybe you should also consider they were all CG and done in incredibly short time and on zero budget from Weta. Give them the time they get for movies and some money and you will have better effects then anything in the LOTR trilogy.
- cryonix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10They had an episode of Future Weapons with a Halo theme i guess... so I'm not surprised there's more Discovery can provide. hopefully this will be good.
- TalkingBanana, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12That was amazing. Pure amazing. And it didn't even have the Chief in it...
- Mipit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I think I'm in love...
- ByteGuerilla, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Yeah 'cause only Firefly fans went to see Serenity, right?
The amount of times I've spoken to someone about Serenity and they didn't even know about Firefly... man, you don't need to be a fan of something to go watch a movie about it. What do you think the advertising is going to be like for a Halo movie? They're not going to put little leaflets in the Halo 3 boxes that say ''btw, we're making a Halo movie'' and leave it at that. - bs0l, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Before anything, I admit that I didn't read any other comments, but Peter Jackson? Are you people retarded? These are all Neil Bloomkamp's shorts for Halo. Wow.
- SPARTACVS, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12LASER CAT DEMANDS: "MOAR LAZR!!!!!!1!!!!!!"
- cplex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Why is it that almost every time someone on Digg calls someone else "stupid" or "dumbass", they end up looking like a dummy themselves?
Karma at work? - ByteGuerilla, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Post nice or GTFO, ignoramus.
Bungie confirmed that Halo 3 would be the last game progressing the Master Chief storyline. We still have the Halo Wars RTS coming out, which means we could easily have more games that aren't Master Chief-oriented. - EvanVolm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I'm glad they kept the sniper trail. Wouldn't have been the same without it...
- tehpwnrate, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Brutes are big monkeys. As for the satellite image, observe: http://youtube.com/watch?v=WPP8Rf4V1nQ (please ignore the subject of this video... just look at how it looks). I realize that Halo is in the future, but you get the idea.
I like the gritty Aliens-like look better than super-flashy modern CGI-everything anyway. Obviously a real movie budget would leave it more polished than this, but I would prefer this style to a Star Wars style (not that I don't love Star Wars) for a Halo movie. - Xvash2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8It's to show the studios that it won't just be another ***** game-movie. it will be amazing.
- Anubis2051, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Exactly, look at WaterWorld
