- KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -5/+56Youre the only one who thinks that. Why exactly cant developers do both?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+42Yeah, that concept really killed the buzz for the DS.
Where'd that thing go, anyway? - ssfootball, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26yeah... take a look at the top banner :)
- Mr.Glass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22My question is, how are retailers gonna demo the WII? put the controller on a 6 foot tether?
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Zetsurin - You mean like yourself and the PS3?
- cmiller1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17And I hear people say the same thing about Apple, that the reason they don't even give their products a chance is because of all of the people screaming about how good it is.
Really... what a childish reason not to like the Wii. - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13So you won't buy a product if more than a set quota of people say it's great? That doesn't make the slightest bit of sense, at all.
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I think it is just an excuse to plug their lame site. :P
(check the guy's digging record) - conigs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"What doesn't make sense is a set quota of people saying something is great that they themselves have never even tried themselves."
What also doesn't make sense is people saying something sucks/is stupid when they themselves have never even tried it.
Examples?
People saying the PS3 sucks: you haven't played it (for the record, I don't want a PS3, just citing an example)
People saying iPod/iTunes/Apples suck. Most people who say Mac OS is better than Windows have used both. Most people who say Mac OS sucks haven't used it. Same with iPods.
Here's an idea. How about you come to your own conclusions concerning a product and make your choice based on that, and not how many other people have or like the product. It's just as ridiculous to jump off the bridge because everyone else is doing it as it is to jump off a bridge because everyone else isn't. - Avogadro65, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is just a list condensed from the Nintendo Media site that was dugg yesterday. Handy, and it's nice they put it together, but nothing previously unknown.
- nature, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This is Digg. If it's not on someone's crappy blog, it didn't happen.
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Uh, that really didn't explain anything at all.
"Shake, tilt, and point." - its all suddenly so much clearer. - iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9they'll probably use the secured, corded version from E3
- MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Uhm... there are two other systems if you don't want to try an innovative, new controller design.
When it is called for, games will still use the classic scheme (e.g. Smash Bros) but the whole point of the Wii is to open new doors. - themulf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It seems if a person takes vague information copied from other sources across the net, and compiles them at their lame blog, it then becomes original and news worthy. Why am I not signed up with google AdSence and doing this my self.... hmmmmm.... oh yeah I am not lame.
- dustedbunny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Oh no you may have to physically exert yourself to play a video games!
NOOOOOO!!!!!!!! - saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5How did that tell us anything we didn't know from watching the 5-minute Wiimote promo at E3?
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I wonder what would happen if Sierra designed a Leisure Suit Larry control scheme (and game) for the Wii? It boggles the mind.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6At least retards can't scratch the screen off with their keys like they do on the DS demos. Honestly every store I've seen them in has the screen so scratched up it looks like kids have been playing it with steel wool scour pads. Maybe with the Wii remote they'll just knock themselves out and leave the machine undamaged.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4stfu, no healthy person needs " mature " rated games to enjoy themselves... nintendo is always going in new directions,,but to you it means going from mario to GTA?
hello world, video games are GAMES. nintendo games are stimulating........... and besides killer 7 is pretty adult. if this is what you want out of gaming stick with your PSP. we'll all stick with our DS s - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4jonshipman:
not true. nintendo PR person said one of the most important promotional strategies is getting the wiimote into peoples hands in store demos,, - cmiz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I like to see innovation, and the new control scheme seems like an interesting concept... but I'll admit I'm a bit worried that I won't really like the radical change. Will they offer an old style controller for those of us who like sore thumbs?
- Mr.Glass, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5there also is nothing here we didnt see at E3.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Controls are an integral part of games, and as such we should never be afraid to closely examine and revise them as the situation changes. Remember Abuse?
- cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I foresee a player moving the Wii-mote up and down rapidly to immitate a monkey on screen jacking off with a banana to hit a switch to swap places with his original body.
Most awkward moment of my gaming life was playing through that scene in my dorm room while my friends parents watched... I swear his mother looked mortified. - forumreader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Some were guessing that running around and other advanced features were being saved for the as of now unannounced full standalone tennis game.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Some of those sound good but this one bugs me...
"Tennis: Players grab the controller like a racket and swing %u2013 the game will register forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don%u2019t worry about moving around the court to get to the ball %u2013 the game automatically moves players into position."
Why cant we use the Nunchuck to move the player around? I Know the game is suppose to be simple but it doesnt take much skill to swing at the right time. Without movement this game becomes nothing more then an exercise in basic timing, no aiming, no moving...owell at least ill be able to play Zelda, thats all i really need well that and Metroid! - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Votes to add "Wii" (and "Ubuntu") to the dictionary since there are an average of 10 posts a week on each."
Keeping saying both enough and O'Reilly might claim they've patented them. - BillyEveryteen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There aren't lists of control schemes (move with the analog stick, aim with the pointer, duh), just common sense assumptions or old info from E3 reports.
- Sartori, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Seems like developers are incorporating the Wiimote into the games very well."
Seems to me like we'll only be able to judge whether they're doing well once it actually appears and we can try it out. I'm not convinced yet, personally, I'll give it a try when I can get my hands on it :) - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm really excited about the Wii but I had a revelation yesterday that makes me fear the Wii will give anti-videogame activists a whole new round of ammunition. I made a comment in the GTA4 discussion (partially in jest) that a Wii version would add a whole new dimension to beating up hookers with a baseball bat.
I fear Jack Thompson & friends will go into convulsions over the fact that the Wiimote allows people to physically act out violence. Can you imagine the furor if a GTA-like game actually allows you to swing a virtual bat and knock the crap out of "innocent" (whatever that means in a videogame) women and children.
Of course it could be a lot of fun. I want a game that allows me to import my co-workers pictures and use the Wiimote to knock the ***** out of them Whack-a-mole style. - orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4im passing up buying a XBox and a ps3 for the Wii. That'll show you how new controllers are " ruining videogames "; it will be more like ruining lacklustersystems, and companies who have to buy out other companies to get their hit games.
- Daedalus81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was pretty disappointed by the article. I was hoping to see some variants on FPS control scehemes and thoughts from 3rd party developers, but it was just stuff we pretty much know already. : (
- ScottyMo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did I see "Excite Truck"!! It's about time they revisited the glories of the Excitebike series!
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its a good thing nintendo doesnt use violence as a novelty like som eother software developers *ahem*
- Quarks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Good question.
I guess they're going to have to attach a carbon tempered steel cable (like those Kensington locks) at the Wii remote and nunchuck. - dunstdunst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://wii-wii.us
- nathan8225, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you could just goto http://wii.nintendo.com and click software!
- warmonger48, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Hi-larious!
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No, there's still plenty of variety in actions based on what technique you use and how much power you put into it (and the Wii will track that according to the quote) as well as your timing so you can place the ball exactly where you want to. The only thing you don't have to worry about is moving around the court, so you can concentrate on your technique, because that's going to win the day. If you set two good players against each other I can envision some amazing matches.
If anything, this offers more control than any previous tennis game, even without the movement. - slickriven, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I am thinking that you've never played tennis or are a pro in real tennis... but by saying that it is easy to swing at the right time is a stretch and tennis is more than timing, its shot placement, spin, power, angle, and much more. It's not like the game will allow you to get to balls all the time, if you opponent is good his/her shots will be out of your reach - regardless of who's controlling your feet.
- teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I guess I can understand that, but when I saw the game being played at E3 I got a bit hyped cause I like tennis games, right now im addicted to Top Spin 2 and Table Tennis. Then they said no movement and I felt a bit let down, other then that though from what I've seen the Wii looks like something im going to have to own at launch.
- rcook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Are we talking about the direction of Nintendo, or the direction of the game developers coding for Wii platform?
- Soniti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Zelda, Metroid, Sports, Red Steel (Theres one!), Tony hawk, madden, super monkey ball, Metal slug, Tramua Center, Elebits, Marvel ultimate alliance, Blitz, Rayman Raving Rabbids (Uhh... what the hell is that game going to be anyway!?)"
For clarification- Red Steel has no gore in it whatsoever. Stupid move I think, but Ubisoft obviously wants to keep their launch games family friendly.
~Soniti - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5"i just hope developers realize they have the option of using the "classic" style controller that looks EXACTLY like a ps2 controller in a SNES controllers casing."
How ironic, since the PlayStation pad is just the SNES pad with handles. You've just proven your ignorance.
(Yes, Sony stole the design. Remember that the PlayStation started out as the SNES CD). - alej744, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Actually, it would be "Girls Gone Wiild"
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe they'll just whack themselves with the nunchucks :-)
- b-dizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Isn't a unique control scheme also a unique feature?
- b-dizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this demo kiosks are going to play a bigger role for Wii than any console before. Not only to they have to make the controller secured as well as free, they have to make it look fun and inviting, and show off all the features like Virtual Console.
And if they put a 6 foot tether, they'd have to be careful. I could totally see some kids in a WalMart standing across the hallway from the demo and using it as a trip wire. - 1807, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was thinking they could use the motion sensors in the Wiimote as a sort of alarm that if it went out of a certain range of the system it alerted a employee or just made a really loud sound :-) But then again maybe not...
