- Petrarch1603, on 07/04/2008, -12/+110okay...so video games using Zeppelin songs is bad, but letting Puff Daddy use casimir for a monster movie is okay?
- nynety, on 07/04/2008, -2/+82Kashmir.
- GJBlizzard, on 07/04/2008, -11/+54Don't hate on The Eagles.
- sexypeon, on 07/04/2008, -5/+44It's Led Zeppelin. As a serious fan of Led Zeppelin and musical video games this really disappoints me.
- Chicken2nite, on 07/04/2008, -1/+37Besides Cameron Crowe films, they don't much license their music at all. There's a deleted scene in Almost Famous where a room full of people sit in the living room listening to Stairway to Heaven all the way through. They included it on the special edition DVD sans song, with a point in the 10 minute scene to cue up your copy of Led Zeppelin IV - ah, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DO-4B7A27kE
They have 3 or 4 Zeppelin songs in that movie, but they wouldn't give them Stairway. Also, in Fast Times at Richmond High, they had a scene where someone was talking about how Led Zeppelin II is the best album to listen to for a makeout session with a girl, and in the background they have a piece of non-dialectic music from Led Zeppelin IV, since they wouldn't give them anything from II apparently.
They're picky like that. In Wayne's World, when Wayne starts playing the guitar in the store, the clerk tells him to knock it off and points to the sign saying NO STAIRWAY after he had strummed the first few notes. In post they go rid of those few notes because of the band's refusal to allow them to use it.
Meanwhile, Ben Stein is able to use Imagine and in Canada with no parody exemption to copyright, Robot Chicken would not be able to be made here. Kinda gives you pause I suppose. - unre4l, on 07/04/2008, -2/+32It's a shame, because I can see them gaining a lot more fans from casual and young players that don't know many/any of their songs...
I mean I know it isn't about the money, but that's not necessarily what I mean. But if their master tapes are that precious to them, I guess we gotta respect their work! - BoneheadFarker, on 07/04/2008, -2/+26Wait...what will Metalica do if they discover bars run Guitar Hero competitions??? All those people will be playing Metalica songs *without* paying royalties! Oh think of the horrors this will cause...Lars Ulrich might have to get a gold toilet instead of a platinum one. James Hatfield might have to drink regular milk instead of the breast milk of a Cambodian mother of 3 living in Brooklyn. Those Cambodian women don't come cheap, you know...
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -0/+18It was supposed to be a reference to how music store employees get absolutely sick of having to sit around all day listening to people play that song incredibly badly. Though, given what happened, that works, too.
- Narcism, on 07/04/2008, -3/+21I've had a rough night, and I hate the ***** Eagles, man
- JedicodeWarrior, on 07/04/2008, -0/+18You mean Kashmir? Page actually played on the PuffDaddy version. Guitar Hero wants access to the master recordings. That ain't gonna happen. Page is way too protective.
- replikhant, on 07/04/2008, -6/+23 I would be uncomfortable too, if I would be in the company of Journey, Boston and.... Metallica.
- kingUssop, on 07/04/2008, -6/+22You know you can play it on a real guitar...
- mywhitenoise, on 07/04/2008, -1/+16I think scoring Pink Floyd would be a greater accomplishment.
- Ninh, on 07/04/2008, -8/+23Translation "We'd be happy to sell out if you only PAID us more"
- NeoCortex, on 07/04/2008, -1/+16Can't be any worse than using Rock and Roll to sell Cadillacs.
- dtele, on 07/04/2008, -2/+17They rarely released singles - the (brilliant marketing) concept being that you should listen to the album.
- heat0, on 07/04/2008, -1/+14Jimmy did that so his son would have something to tell his friends. "My dad did some of the music in that movie." Since they are young and saying "Hey my dad is Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin" doesn't exactly connect.
- hampus, on 07/04/2008, -0/+10That's it, get out!
- dtele, on 07/04/2008, -2/+11Whatever way you look at it, they are GREAT arrangements.
I would have never gotten into listening to Howling Wolf if it hadnt been for Zeppelin. - inactive, on 07/04/2008, -0/+8You people don't seem to understand the logistics involved here.
Led Zeppelin really want to do this, but they have to do extensive checking with their lawyers first to make sure that it wouldn't conflict with their contract they made with the devil. - cliffzdude, on 07/04/2008, -0/+8Its not that they have a problem with video games using Zeppling songs, as the article states. Its about granting outsiders access to the precious master tapes:
"The sticking point: The band isn't comfortable with the prospect of granting outsiders access to its master tapes, a necessary step in creating the games. "It ain't about the money," Mr. Mensch says." - mrzeero, on 07/04/2008, -0/+8Doubtful, Tool is more protective of their songs than Zep.
- norman619, on 07/04/2008, -1/+9Syphon8:
You have feet no? - kenvsryu, on 07/04/2008, -6/+13since most of their hit songs are covers of other bands songs, this seems hypocritical.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HjPAEPFaxoM&feature=rel ... - supermanred, on 07/04/2008, -3/+10This is news? A bunch of grandpas don't feel comfortable with something new fangled?
- 4321234, on 07/04/2008, -0/+7Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Duane Allman declined comment.
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -0/+7Welcome to being stupid. A song is a song no matter what happens to it. Weird Al could parody every single one of their songs and their songs would still be the songs they were when they come out. Quit having an arrogance about music. It reveals your douchiness.
- MidnightRIder77, on 07/04/2008, -0/+6"In far, far worse news, so are the Eagles."
Hey Kotaku, ***** You. - JedicodeWarrior, on 07/04/2008, -2/+8Look at the Rolling Stones most, if not all, of their material were covers of other people's stuff.
- foofightrs777, on 07/04/2008, -2/+7But they're fine with licensing their songs to car commercials pissing on their legacy and exploiting peoples' fond memories of them. I think they're more "uncomfortable" with the level of compensation they'd receive than the format

Starts at around 24seconds - BoneheadFarker, on 07/04/2008, -1/+6No kidding...what did it cost P. Diddy to mangle Kashmir?
- doshindude, on 07/04/2008, -1/+6too bad that game kinda...you know..sucks.
- evil-doer, on 07/04/2008, -0/+5oh just ***** off. the band should be overjoyed at the thought of their fans being able to play their music in ways they never could before.

-2-2-2-2--2-| - shawnanigans, on 07/04/2008, -0/+5Or they could grant use of the song for a cover as many other artists have done. It's not the dream situation but at least that way some songs will get in and eventually they could warm to the idea.
- Hartley1942, on 07/04/2008, -0/+5My grandpa and I built my computer.
But I see your point. - JedicodeWarrior, on 07/04/2008, -1/+5Doubt it. They've had almost 40 years to sell out. They don't need more money. The Stones on the other hand ...
- supermanred, on 07/04/2008, -1/+5They have sold out frequently for commercial purposes. Can you say Puff Daddy?
- Gryffydd, on 07/04/2008, -1/+5You really haven't listened to a lot of Pink Floyd, have you?
- SaiaRiddle, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4Led Zeppelin has always been this stingy with their songs. They very rarely let studios use their songs in movies. Jack Black documented this in the School of Rock extras.... he had to beg them (literally) for permission to use The Immigrant Song in the movie. It worked though. xD
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Well obviously their contract with the devil expired because he wasn't working his magic at their reunion concert in the UK.
- carthach, on 07/04/2008, -3/+6elaborate how the zep "basically ripped all of their hit songs off"
you can't just make a sweeping statement like that and get away with it - digitul, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3again i ask; why is it every time someone mentions rockband or guitar hero, some idiot has to chime in with "OMG JSUT PLAY A REAL GUITAR!!!". its a GAME. it's a little plastic guitar, its for fun, not musical accomplishment
- Cruelapollo, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3I don't know, Brock Samson is pretty ***** huge.
- Arcarsenal, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3No explanation for 'Communication Breakdown' in the movie Small Soldiers?
- DaleoftheUK, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3I wana get the led out!
Also...AC/DC? :( - mooseofshadows, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Hey, boston had some talent. Certainly not in the same way as Led Zeppelin, but at least enough to put them about Journey and Metallica.
- fatTJ, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3To tell you the truth, i wouldn't mind not having Zeppelin on GH or Rock Band. Basically for the reason that i am a huge Zeppelin fan, and i don't want any of their songs getting ruined from the major market of the game, and that consequent saturation of playtime and etc.
- kd420, on 07/04/2008, -5/+8Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin can do whatever they want. If he thinks that the song is good and it works with Kashmir he can do it. Frankly, i take Jimmy ***** Page's musical opinion over yours.
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Kirstin Dunst's Room is covered in Led Zep Posters in that movie and numerous references are made....
perhaps Jimmy liked the idea of a young teen girl not into aqua.... -
