- Louken, on 10/31/2009, -1/+86Shooting civilians is that much more heinous that it deserves to be banned? Honestly sometimes the Office of Film and Literature Classification is insane. I feel for you my Australian friends. You guys badly need an 18+ classification so that adult games can be released, not every game is for kids after all.
- HurricaneDC, on 11/01/2009, -2/+79Australia sucks. Their video games are super expensive, their internet service is incredibly expensive and has very very restrictive bandwidth caps, and they have tons of poisonous animals. I think I'd rather live on a penal colony... oh wait D:
- Naasuk, on 11/01/2009, -1/+63"Excuse me, may I kill you?"
"Oh, I was just about to kill you! well, after you!"
"No after you"
"No after you.:)"
There's violence in war, and sadly, civilians dying is a part of that war. Besides, it isn't like we don't slaughter millions of people in GTA IV or purge a whole town in Warcraft 3.
Besides, you were killing thousands of people in Call of Duty 4. - bds85, on 11/01/2009, -3/+56The real terrorism is the removal of dedicated servers from the PC.
- ThatEvilGuy, on 11/01/2009, -1/+33Had they included dedicated servers, I'd have been fine with it,
However as it is now, it's an outrageous horrible depiction of an atrocity and the game should be banned, think of the children! - 22catches, on 11/01/2009, -0/+22"[This] has now led Australia to reconsider the game's MA15+ rating."
No, it hasn't. The Office of Film and Literature Classification has said that they won't be reviewing their decision.
The OFLC isn't the problem here, it is the fact that an R18 rating for games is blocked by the South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson. I have zero respect for that guy. - gossumx, on 11/01/2009, -0/+20"We may make an argument that these sorts of topics are not suitable for children, but I don't at all accept that it is unsuitable for adults."
Point made. - macmcraeart, on 11/01/2009, -2/+22LOL the "PC" version has homosexual female soldiers petting kittens and bringing food to starving families in Africa.
- ereric30, on 11/01/2009, -0/+18ya i dont see the big deal i have committed genocide on the people of liberty city i think im worse than Hitler
- macmcraeart, on 11/01/2009, -2/+20you don't say.....you sir are a moron, but thanks for playing!
- jh371x, on 11/01/2009, -0/+17***** this... I'm moving to Canada.
- mauleriscool, on 11/01/2009, -0/+17just wait till you see what happens at the white house
- theiss, on 11/01/2009, -3/+18It's... a... game... sigh
- dsmx, on 11/01/2009, -5/+19So showing the consequences of terrorist actions is not OK?
- theonlywizdum, on 11/01/2009, -1/+12A little too nanny-like? Your government is telling grown men they can't see bleeding zombies in a video game because it might give them nightmares.
- jihadjohnson, on 11/01/2009, -6/+16Lol, the xbox 360 version on the game has been leaked just download it and decide for yourself!
- kashk5, on 11/01/2009, -0/+10That's the only reason I play GTA IV. I don't do the missions, I just drive around mowing down civilians and blowing up cops. It's a great way to release some stress
- TheOneKen, on 11/01/2009, -5/+14It's all a matter of who does the rankings, brotha.
- Postalwrker27, on 11/01/2009, -3/+12In a surprise twist, the Airport is actually filled with suicide bombers dressed as your average caucasian business man. We have to stop them somehow, right?
- theonlywizdum, on 11/01/2009, -0/+8Someone needs a reality check on isle 5!
- SpartanErik, on 11/01/2009, -0/+8Well in a podcast they did mention that they were getting rid of dedicated servers / any modding potential for PC, which has already resulted in many people (can't quantify how many) cancelling pre-orders.
Latest rumor I heard was a 16 player cap in games, but I doubt that one. I'm just going to wait for reviews before I buy. - Borgcube, on 11/01/2009, -0/+7I would disagree, sitting and moving down civilians while riding your monster truck over police cars is much more satisfying IRL.
- tidu, on 11/01/2009, -0/+7yeah, like he said
- stevenbrown, on 11/01/2009, -1/+725th kill streak is ***** retarded and will ruin games
- juryben, on 11/01/2009, -2/+8I don't care what you guys say.
The Airplane mission is Bad Ass. - hfactor, on 11/01/2009, -0/+6You don't understand the media's business model.
- Darksoul, on 11/01/2009, -2/+8So lets ban reality now while we are at it, how dumb can they be.
- sanman, on 11/01/2009, -1/+6Hasn't anybody played any shooter games like Virtua Cop, etc, where there's a chance of shooting hostages or bystanders? Here, you're just doing that to a greater degree, in a deliberate manner.
What I found most offensive about the game, is that they rely on making Russians the EvilWorldThreatening scapegoats yet again. It's politically incorrect to make a game about shooting AlQaeda insurgents in Iraq, or shooting Taliban in Afghanistan. But at least we can all take comfort in knowing that we can reliably arrive on a universal consensus that the Russians will always still be untermenschen. Pathetic. - Tyrghast, on 11/01/2009, -0/+5"is that really worthy of all this negative publicity?"
No, but negative publicity is still free publicity. I'm sure Jack Thompson didn't hurt GTA3 sales, but rather helped them.
It's also rated M for a reason. - opticwind, on 11/01/2009, -0/+5I think some people here need a small reality check with the rest of the world. You may not like censorship, and frankly neither do I, but that video was pretty graphic. Adults should be able to play it, but kids really, really don't need to.
- moskrin, on 11/01/2009, -2/+7Every time somebody farts it causes controversy in the media... get the ***** over it, already.
- UltX, on 11/01/2009, -0/+5KIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLL FRENZY!
- StreetPreacher, on 11/01/2009, -1/+6Nobody has a problem with showing the consequences of terrorist acts. It's asking people to COMMIT the acts for fun and entertainment that has people upset.
- rockon4life45, on 11/01/2009, -1/+6It's super crippled, just buy a console version.
- Eunonia, on 11/01/2009, -0/+4no dedicated servers. yea it's crippled.
- Spazb0t, on 11/01/2009, -0/+4I swear if this gets banned in Australia i'll.....be unhappy. :'(
- TheOneKen, on 11/01/2009, -0/+4Haha, hilariousness.
- Tyrghast, on 11/01/2009, -1/+5The Culling of Stratholhme in Warcraft 3 was a key plot point (lumping it in with GTA isn't really fair...), much like having to carry out the public execution in COD4 was as well.
The opening of CODMW2 is setting the stage for the game. It's not mindless slaughter meant to entertain and encourage Columbine-esque crazies. It's part of Infinity Ward's excellent practice of telling a story via first person, never letting the player become disengaged from the game at any point. It's how they've done it since the very first Call of Duty, they've just refined it and let it mature. - SumoSniper, on 11/01/2009, -0/+4He's a self-confessed moral crusader and the fact that the Australian legal system allows such an abuse of power really shows what a horribly ***** up political landscape we're in.
- ceraphin, on 11/01/2009, -2/+6Sigh... a week ago i would've cared then i read how they butchered the PC version Now i can't buy it.
- StreetPreacher, on 11/01/2009, -1/+4It's both. It may come as a shock to you, but games are played for fun. By including such an activity in their game, the developer is saying that this is an activity that they believe that their customers would find fun and entertaining. And judging by the majority of responses here and on gaming forums, they are correct.
By your logic if somebody made a child raping game, it wouldn't be any fault of the developer. Only the people who play and enjoy it. But in my twisted world, they'd both be scumbags. But I guess I'm just out of touch by your definition. - Edgers, on 11/01/2009, -1/+4They robbed us of good bits of L4D 2, if they pull modern warfare 2, I'm going to be pissed.
- Runnamuck62, on 11/01/2009, -1/+4@Street
That was probably the most intelligent comment I have seen on digg. I couldn't agree more - Metadrew, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wgLMT4w0S0
For now, youtube has been taking them down - JudgeMonkey, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3And also the fact that getting people upset and outraged is what pays the media's bills.
- DaviDTC, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3There is an option to turn it on/off and there is a problem with it?
- CalvinDK, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3Just give the Australian public what we want. R18+ rating. How ***** hard is it ? You don't want kids to buy the game? Show some ID please. Or as parents don't allow them to play these sorts of games. you're the adult, you make the rules. Politicians, ***** off.
- cloudstrifed, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3Three words: Grand Theft Auto.
- benitojuarez, on 11/01/2009, -0/+3Heres the footage http://www.torrentreactor.net/torrents/3512450/Mod ...
I got really pissed at activisions censorship when I went lookin for it the other day so spread this everywhere. The quality is really *****, fair warning. - Edgers, on 11/01/2009, -1/+4Yes, I think we have established it's a silly system, thanks for the input though theonlywizdum.
There is a pretty decent movement at the moment among Australian gamer community at the moment to try and do something about this, and if you give a toss about your games then get on board.
