- Misanthrope, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Oh *****! Did you just come up with that, 'cuz that is FUNNY!!
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I like the map function, where it lets me sping the globe around. WHEEEEEEEEEEE!
.... What? - ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Maybe just close your other 4 browsers?
- Braingoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Its not really a selling feature but a nice touch non the less. I would love to see a good RSS reader built into it.
- brwnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I dont get it?? Does your weather channel only update once a month??? Mine is working great...I get weather updates every couple of hours....Im in Copenhagen, Denmark by the way, and, oh yeah, we dont get a lot of weather in these parts of the world...
- kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I like the map function - where you zoom in for local news and zoom out for national news.
News will be displayed through an interactive map, which users can navigate with the Wii's wireless controller, Kaplan said.
"The beauty of it is it zooms in and out of areas of the world," she said. "So if you really want to focus on regional news or national news versus international, you just blow up the map of the U.S."
Oh Kaplan... - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Yeah, after the forecast channel, I'm predicting the first news I see will be...
BREAKING: POPE JOHN PAUL II IN CRITICAL CONDITION! - illt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6how about an updated weather channel? i dont' want weather from 12 hours ago of a place that's 30 miles from my actual location.
- Boofster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well if it's anything like the shopping channel which I can't get to half the time and it locks up the other half, then good luck.
- kauko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It will be interesting to see whether the "top stories" are filtered to not include anything "inappropriate".
Being able to surf porn sites with the included Opera shocked some people (why those people just don't watch after their kids is beyond me) and no doubt some news items will upset these people too... - Bentley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nintendo's in a "Blue Ocean" with Wii .. not a bloody red ocean with PS and Xbox
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree the weather channel is next to useless. Spinning the globe a few times is somewhat fun, but really it's so overwhelmingly functionally inferior to every weather information alternative there is almost no point to use it.
It'd be cool if it could do something strange like use WiiConnect24 and the front-blue-led with local weather info, like it could blink rapidly if it is supposed to rain today... They should have put more thought into that potentially useful blue-led. - finbec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Huh? YouTube video works fine on my Wii (62" Samsung HDTV).
- tripm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Why don't you just stick your head out the door to see if you need to start the car early?
FREE BONUS: Breath of fresh air! - Senshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just got a message from Nintendo on my Wii, and the News Channel is live right now.
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Certain areas update more frequently than others. I think it has to do with the weather stations it draws the info from. My location is typically up to 10 hours behind. Setting it to a big city nearby rather than the actual closest location gives more current info.
- lbeaty1981, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mine seems to update the current temp about once every 4-6 hours. Not a big deal, I have a thermometer on the back porch. I mainly use it for the 5-day forecast feature. It's nice to be able to get on, see what the weather's gonna be like tomorrow, then get back off in 2-3 minutes. Especially helpful for me on weekends, when I don't get up in time to watch the morning news.
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have never used my Wii to check the forcast. The only time I have used the Weather Channel feature is when friends or family come over and they want to see everything the Wii can do. I imagine the same will apply to the News Channel.
- ProximaC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More than once I've looked at the wii to see it was sunny in Seattle, only to look out my window and see it raining. Of course our local news weathermen can't make accurate predictions on the weather here either, so I wasn't expecting much, but still....
- DeepDoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually like the weather channel on my Wii.
I thought it would be useless, but I can get to it faster than I can get to weather on my PC or on my TV by other means so I have actually been using it.
My kids wake up earlier than I do and often already have themselves ready for school and are playing on the Wii. I just flip it to weather real quick if I need to see if I need to go start the car early. Having said that, I do not think the news channel will be that great. I rarely pay attention to the local [lack of] news anyway. - rusackas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just wish it showed my current (or tomorrow's) forecast in the main Wii menu channel icon, instead of me needing to click on it to fire it up.
As far as the news channel goes, though, it's about damned time! What have those developers been doing all this time, sitting around counting money? - Pow3rbook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had it this morning before they sent the message.. Kinda dumb but cool i guess lol.
- hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Never really seen the point of having news and weather forecasts on the Wii, there are much better ways of getting both. I still put it on though because the music's relaxing : )
- MindStalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lqqkout4elfy: It has to do with your cheap wireless router, I have a cheap wireless router as well and the same thing happends. If you want fast speeds though sit down at your computer go into command prompt and type
ping ipaddesss -r and it will continually ping your Wii.
Go surf the web on your Wii now, it will be 100 times faster..
Try tweaking settings on your router may get you a good connection without having to ping, but I couldn't. - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I can't imagine people really using this functionality. I wish they'd devote the devopment hours to making the internet work properly in 480p on HDTV's. I would love to watch some youtube stuff in my living room. The news...ehhh who cares. Who really wants to do that on the Wii. If we had the internet working properly we could just go to cnn.com and get all the news we want.
- ldkronos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sounds like you are probably falling victim to Nintendo's piss poor support for wireless routers. The Wii and the DS are the only devices I have ever seen with such broad compatibility issues with a wide range of routers.
A lot of the routers you can get working if you do some finagling with the settings. Turning off DHCP and statically assigning IP/DNS/mask/etc on the Wii often helps. So does using wireless channel 1 or 11. My D-Link DI-514 only works right if I do both of these things. If I use another channel, it will connect in the wireless setup test connection screen, but when it tries to download data for the Wii Channel, it either takes several minutes or completely times out.
With my DS, the story isn't a whole lot better...actually, its a bit worse. The only reliable way to get it to connect is to reboot the router immediately before I try to make a connection. In games like Animal Crossing, where you might be trying to get into a full town, and thus making several connections in a row, if I don't reboot after each connection, the connection usually fails by the 3rd or 4th try. That was a long time ago, though. I haven't gone online with my DS since I got the Wii. Now that I've learned about the Wii's channel 1/11 trick, I haven't tried it with the DS to see if it helps there too. - DeepDoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1house too big, too far to walk unless I have to. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The Wii news channel should be a clone of Digg... that would rock.
- zenzic64, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What's the weather like when you don't have weather?
- miquonranger031, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I wish Ninty would repair my Wii. :,-(
- cr4ft, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I wonder if Sony will pay to run ads? Hmmm ;)
- pepote, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1That is just great! As usual we Spaniard-speakers are the Nth+1 in the list of Nth languages... Come on, guys... We are the Forth of the world... No offense, but "Swiss-German"?? Are there more Swiss-German-speakers (or German, BTW) than Spanish-speakers Wii users? Don't think so.
We all (well... almost all) can manage to get a beer in English, but I think is unfair. Mostly for "non hardcore gamers" IE: the old lady that Nin says it's going to play Wii Sports.
Great news, anyway. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1NO WAII????
LYKE I THOUGHT THE WII WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT GAMING, NOT USELESS THINGS LIKE WEATHER AND NEWS?
MULTITASKING IS BAAAAAADD - rewris, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1yeah, because Wii gamers really care about the news. Nintendo could have scrapped all these worthless "features" and add ons and came out with the extra cash and made the system visually powerful instead of being cheap and using silly excuses about grabbing new branches of the market.
I'd still give up, the Mii, news, weather, plastic stands, wii sports for better graphics. - lqqkout4elfy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Can anyone here tell me why folks are so happy about the Wii connecting to the Internet when the connection takes a whopping 1 minute to be connected?? My other PCs and iMac don't connect this slow onto my wireless at all.
- Partyworm, on 10/12/2007, -13/+7Lets just hope they update it more than once a month. Forecast channel anyone ?
- mickerlodeon, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2RSS would be cool for news, but even without the Wii is becoming a great living room device. Coupled with an AppleTV it will do almost anything you would want them to.
http://cybersurge.org/ - IMA_Sellout, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1Look, I swear this is the 5th time I've seen the words "Wii News Channel" on the front page. Can we stop duping stories please?
- combustion8, on 10/12/2007, -23/+0I think it's a great use of technolog-wii.
- unicronband, on 10/12/2007, -31/+2This is wii-tarded.

What is Digg?
