blog.wired.com — LEGO Universe, the upcoming LEGO-branded MMO, can best be described as "LEGO Star Wars multiplied by a million," according to Mark Hansen, the Director of Business Development for the LEGO Group.

- griz, on 02/26/2008, -0/+9Was it a 2x4 or 1x4?
- Battousai778, on 02/26/2008, -0/+51x6 and a 1x1 at the end
- Gozchev, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1I can't imagine what will happen when it hits the fan...
- griz, on 02/26/2008, -0/+9Was it a 2x4 or 1x4?
- Pissoff, on 02/26/2008, -0/+72How many players named Legolas will be in this one?
- Nitesmoke, on 02/26/2008, -0/+4That was the main thing I hate about playing MMO's, everytime I pass an elf, his name is "Legolas,Leggulus,Lehgolas,Legolous,or L3g0lo5."
- simpleid, on 02/26/2008, -0/+9yes! lego jet packs! and ... destructible terrain?
- JEWestbrookJR, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2No destructible terrain!!! I would like to relive my childhood joys of playing with legos, but not the anguish of my older siblings wrecking the ***** as soon as I'm done.
- sockpuppets, on 02/26/2008, -0/+41I ***** a brick.
- Doomsan, on 02/26/2008, -11/+21Could you build things? that'll be awesome.
- Nidis, on 02/26/2008, -0/+73Build things? Its lego you crazy bastard.
- dood, on 02/26/2008, -2/+12You couldn't build anything you wanted in LEGO Star Wars, so I think it's a valid question.
- spammishking, on 02/26/2008, -16/+1I was allowed to play a super secret pre-pre-pre-beta version of the game, and no, in lego land you cannot build things. Trust me I know people who knew someone, that knew me
- griz, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2And yet somehow we don't believe you.
- purplehaze420, on 02/27/2008, -0/+3It would be a valid question... HAD IT NOT BEEN IN THE FREAKING ARTICLE! Jezz... whats with ppl just reading titles and commenting on it ? Would you read a headline of the newspaper and pretend to know the whole story ?
- dood, on 02/26/2008, -2/+12You couldn't build anything you wanted in LEGO Star Wars, so I think it's a valid question.
- CaptMonkey, on 02/26/2008, -3/+20I see a world filled with phallic structures in our future.

- Disease, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7Well played.
- diggduggDOOM, on 02/26/2008, -0/+28***** blocks?
- ligyron, on 02/26/2008, -4/+1Yeah, that would be awesome if you could build stuff. I was always disappointed as a kid when I bought LEGO blocks but it wouldn't let me actually build anything
- Burnybahd, on 02/26/2008, -1/+3My friend is a concept artist for this game. I have messed around in the very early stages. Go to lego.com and download the "Lego Digital Designer". They will be using something similar, but more powerful, in the game.
- targetX, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Thanks for the tip, I didn't know that tool! Been playing with it for a while now and it's pretty cool, especially designing your own train & rail-system is awesome!
- InThePants, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2It says right in the article that you will be able to build things
- purplehaze420, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2Did you read the article ? they talked about that being a big part of it...
- tikiman453, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2and order a lego set of whatever you build in-game!
- Calcularius, on 02/26/2008, -0/+3*CAN* you read the ***** article? That *WOULD* be ***** awesome.
from said ***** article which you did not ***** read...
"Most impressive in this quest is LEGO's plan to integrate fabrication of objects directly into the title.
Any structure or vehicle you may construct out of the MMOs virtual blocks, you can also export to LEGO who will allow you to purchase traditional LEGO sets that are exact replicas of what you've created in-game."
- Nidis, on 02/26/2008, -0/+73Build things? Its lego you crazy bastard.
- voomfoo, on 02/26/2008, -44/+3there probably wont be any graphic material so i'm not going to buy it.... if its not M its not in my library
- charlescheese, on 02/26/2008, -4/+15Man I hope you're being sarcastic. Otherwise, grow up little boy. Only people insecure in their manliness would buy only M rated games. Me? I'll buy any great game that's fun. I couldn't care less what the rating is.
- Pissoff, on 02/26/2008, -1/+11I promise you blocky lego peni as far as the eye can see.
- proton, on 02/26/2008, -5/+5I realize he's a troll and *only* playing M-rated games is a bit much. Some of us, however, do prefer to play games that have content geared for adults rather than tweens.
- MacEnvy, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7LEGO video games are generally geared toward everyone.
- petebot, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6Half of the "Mature" games are geared toward teenagers...teenage boys, specifically...
- employeeno5, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2The content ratings ***** system has to do with supposedly "immoral" content not actual maturity. Something like Zelda is far more mature than something like Grand Theft Auto. Games like GTA might have so-called "mature content" but that doesn't mean that the game play is mature or designed to appeal to a mature mentality. In fact it's designed to appeal specifically to an immature mentality. Which is okay, I'm not saying enjoying Grand Theft Auto is immature, it's a great game, but the part of you that enjoys that kind of game play is not the adult part of you, it's the most childish. Again, I'm NOT criticizing that, games like that are great, but the whole idea of them being mature or adult is a little bit backwards. Rather it just means you should be an adult (or have an adult decide for you) before it's okay to play something so wildly immature.
- TalkingBanana, on 02/26/2008, -7/+84...I smell a WoW killer...
- Pissoff, on 02/26/2008, -1/+26Does it smell like Cheeto's and Coke?
- Flame15, on 02/26/2008, -3/+28This could be the end of the world... of warcraft.
- dewdrinker19, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7No, no!!! I don't want to start over at the graveyard!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- fibreoptik, on 02/26/2008, -4/+1Do you smell like Cheetos and Coke? Probably.
- Pissoff, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1No, I like Pepsi and Dorito branded snacks.
- Flame15, on 02/26/2008, -3/+28This could be the end of the world... of warcraft.
- Merq, on 02/26/2008, -2/+5I actually don't think this would steal WoW players like WoW stole EQ players... but very possible though.
- mcm020, on 02/26/2008, -7/+8I loved LEGO's when i was younger. However, this doesn't appeal to me in the least. Sorry LEGO.
- griz, on 02/26/2008, -1/+7You have lost your soul.
- sparkmonkeyz, on 02/26/2008, -0/+4This won't steal from WoW, or at least much. This game is probably going to be targeted towards younger audiences, and is not going to be near as in depth, but still, I am going to play it.
- Lythium, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2I can see it now - Barrens chat as far as the eye can see. In Lego.
Hope the developers include an /ignore option.
- Lythium, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2I can see it now - Barrens chat as far as the eye can see. In Lego.

- JayMeaux, on 02/26/2008, -1/+57with playmobil men being equivalent to the horde...
- rz8472, on 02/26/2008, -0/+18And you play as Duplos in the tutorial level. Genius!
- gambl0r, on 02/26/2008, -0/+14Megablocks are the real enemy here!
- xdeliriumx, on 02/26/2008, -0/+15Their tiny little legs are going to be tired.
- allenobendorf, on 02/26/2008, -5/+47Anyone else ever play Star Wars with their legos when they were little?
Darth Vader always conquered the universe.
Oh, and i was Darth Vader.- Klarth, on 02/26/2008, -13/+9The plural of LEGO is LEGO.
- AlexWeisker, on 02/26/2008, -4/+1LEGO wants the plural to be "LEGO Bricks or Toys"
- Steinr, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1Oh yes, but hey I was Darth Vader!!! don't steal my identity! ;)
- mrferg, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2The most I ever did was make various ships out of Lego, the Millennium Falcon, Star Destroyers, Tie Fighters, the like. This was a decade before the first real Star Wars Lego sets arrived of course, all made of Blacktron and Futuron parts.
- majglow, on 02/26/2008, -0/+12My favorite game was to build "adventure" worlds that were basically a whole bunch of booby traps. I would build them as big as possible with as many different traps as possible, then I would take my lego people and have them walk through it, and they would all die horrendous deaths... and I would laugh then send in the next wave.
- BCModder1, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0hehe lego lemmings lol FTW!!
- Klarth, on 02/26/2008, -13/+9The plural of LEGO is LEGO.
- AlphaR75, on 02/26/2008, -1/+8If the technology to transfer my mind into a computer ever becomes reality, this is the world I want to live in...
- DavidtheDuke, on 02/26/2008, -0/+12I personally would not enjoy a virtual lego vagina
- KingGorilla, on 02/26/2008, -0/+11well you'd have a lego penis so it would be okay
- Trykt, on 02/26/2008, -0/+3I don't think genitals that snap together are "okay"
- KingGorilla, on 02/26/2008, -0/+11well you'd have a lego penis so it would be okay
- Audacitor, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1There a lots of scifi books where characters can literally jack into the Internet, Matrix style. I always imagine an RJ45 jack, but it wouldn't have data transfer rates high enough to support that kind of Internet.
- DavidtheDuke, on 02/26/2008, -0/+12I personally would not enjoy a virtual lego vagina
- LiquidIse, on 02/26/2008, -10/+60I still say a Pokemon MMO, where you play as a trainer, would rule all. Though lego certainly could have its moments
- centerblack, on 02/26/2008, -9/+1WoW Hunter?
- deadseksy, on 02/26/2008, -6/+16You know, I never thought of that because, well, I'm not 8 years old. But I could see that entertaining.
- SKick, on 02/26/2008, -2/+7Yes, you are a grown-up. So grown up that you have to affirm it online to people you don't even know.
- roflbrothel, on 02/26/2008, -0/+13I'm 8 years old and I think it's a terrible idea.
I'm also a Harvard grad student.
- diskit, on 02/26/2008, -1/+20I'm not a Pokemon fan by any means, but I've always wondered why they haven't made a Pokemon MMO myself.
You'd think they would have done so at this point.- moush, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1At least some free asian one should exist.
- Harabeck, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Oh god no, half the challenge of those games is putting up with the crappy UI.
- moush, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1At least some free asian one should exist.
- xsidekick409, on 02/26/2008, -1/+6I think that Nintendo wants to keep Pokemon as their powerseller for their hand-held devices. I can't see any other reason they wouldn't have made a true 3d pokemon game for the GC or Wii.
An MMO would probably work pretty well, although they would have to change the combat system because its a bit dry.- Harabeck, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1There was one on GC as I recall.
- Kral, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1And for the Wii, although terrible. The GC one was semi-terrible if I remember right, as they stripped out a ton of features that had been added to the series on the handheld versions. Kinda weird for a console port of a handheld game to have less features than a handheld game, but there it was..
- xsidekick409, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2I played it and immediately stopped. Pokemon Colluseum or something. It wasn't any good. The pokemon batte arenas aren't the types of games I'm talking about. Those games do not allow you, to walk around and experience an entire pokemon world, unless I'm mistaken.
- Harabeck, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1There was one on GC as I recall.
- Lane, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Id imagine it's not worth bothering with as there would not be enough diversity in the game. Not to mention the nightmare when all the little children got ripped off.
- Falldog, on 02/26/2008, -1/+14Dibs on the orange chainsaw.
- thomasthecat, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1IcePlanet 2002 was probably my favorite set.
- pk7677, on 02/26/2008, -2/+21I will only play it if I can build my own ships, guns, swords, house, pets and a prostitute...
- PdxPhoenix, on 02/26/2008, -0/+7In that order?
- BrapAllgood, on 02/26/2008, -1/+38No MMO has ever been able to capture my attention much. I'm almost afraid this one might steal my soul.
- DeviantDragon, on 02/26/2008, -0/+15A Duplo tutorial would fit nicely.
- whatthefu, on 02/26/2008, -2/+11Can you imagine trying to explain this to people? "Yeah, when I get home I'm going to play the Lego MMO. We're going to go on quests and *****."
- Pissoff, on 02/26/2008, -6/+4Your joke, it sucks.
- HUKI365, on 02/26/2008, -0/+11Certainly be more easy to explain than WOW.
- Lythium, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2If you have to explain it, chances are your audience doesn't give a ***** anyway. First-hand experience says that life is much easier if you don't flaunt your geeky obsessions in front of "normal" people.

- dudefather, on 02/26/2008, -0/+862 factions: the side who uses 'lego' as the plural, and those who use 'legos'
the PVP battles will be epic- sakuraz, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1I wonder what the ratio would be until the next expansion.
- snowpatrol, on 02/26/2008, -0/+16THIS IS LEGO!!!!!!!!!!!
- uppedbyhiggins, on 02/26/2008, -0/+20THESE ARE LEGOS!!!!!!!!
- Lythium, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6Leggo my... wait, wrong script.
- SohailKhanifar, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1You made ma laugh lythium.
- uppedbyhiggins, on 02/26/2008, -0/+20THESE ARE LEGOS!!!!!!!!
- kixxster, on 02/26/2008, -4/+4to be correct it actually is LEGO for plural as well...
- Nighthawke, on 02/26/2008, -0/+4Oh, they'll blast the bricks out of each other.
- Subassy, on 02/26/2008, -0/+3What? It's not ...LEG-EYE?
- isaactwito, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2No, sorry, it's LEG-ARM.
- Disease, on 02/26/2008, -0/+5No, that's the price of gas.
- BearinG, on 02/27/2008, -0/+1LEG-WITH-NO-KNEE
- isaactwito, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2No, sorry, it's LEG-ARM.
- zeromancer, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2i don't give a ***** what all you grammar nazis say. if you have a word for an object ( 'lego' for example ) and you have more than one, you add a ***** s to the end of it. the only group of objects that does not follow this rule is a group of animals. and ***** them anyway. legos rock my socks.
- sinrtb, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2What about lego animals which rule applies?
- CLYF, on 02/26/2008, -1/+21"Any structure or vehicle you may construct out of the MMOs virtual blocks, you can also export to LEGO who will allow you to purchase traditional LEGO sets that are exact replicas of what you've created in-game."
DUGG! I can't wait for it to happen!- ivantalboys, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2Assuming the virtual blocks have real world equivilents then if you can build it virtually, you can already buy the blocks to build it in the real world.
- Harabeck, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2You can do this on their site right now, and its pretty expensive.
- sinrtb, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1On the site you can do this. But there are issues with blocks not exporting out of the program Lego builder. So you cannot use all the pieces in the Lego universe whereas hopefully in the game only the peices you can export will be available in the Universe.
- kbaz, on 02/26/2008, -0/+32"Any structure or vehicle you may construct out of the MMOs virtual blocks, you can also export to LEGO who will allow you to purchase traditional LEGO sets that are exact replicas of what you've created in-game."
Is that not the coolest thing in the world?!?!?- sakuraz, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2Yeah....but I'm assuming it won't come pre-built.
But then again, that's where all the fun is:P - rz8472, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1I get dibs on the Blacktron Aerial Invader set!
With two detachable miniships and its own hangar containing a small scout vehicle, that set is probably one of the most awesome LEGO sets in existence. Possibly even more than that Space Police Galactic Mediator set. Ahh memories...- ronar, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1do you mean this one?
http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6981
I think I had that too. Great fun! - PdxPhoenix, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Blacktron I was better.. Blacktron II had way too much dayglo yellow/green...
btw 6876 Alienator = good; 6894 Invader = better; 6954 Renegade = best !
- ronar, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1do you mean this one?
- elcow, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Hivemind
- Harabeck, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Go to their website, you can design sets and order them right now.
- sakuraz, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2Yeah....but I'm assuming it won't come pre-built.
- bonjourmr, on 04/25/2008, -0/+8***** yeah, childhood here I come...again!
- tehrich, on 02/26/2008, -3/+3Something tells me they should have separate servers for people say, 16 and up. I foresee lots of this:

Lego wang for the lazy people.- Cint, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6age =/= maturity
- tehrich, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2True, but this way parents can't complain if their 10 year old sees a Lego wang as they have the option of a server for children. Well, I'm sure they still can complain, but unfortunately there's no cure for stupid parents.
- Cint, on 02/26/2008, -0/+6age =/= maturity
- bradd12, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2I used to play WoW, but as an average player, I couldn't justify the cost for something I did a few hours a week. If this game plays at or near the same quality as WoW at (hopefully) a lesser cost, it sounds pretty good to me, IMO.
- spacecheese, on 02/26/2008, -4/+0What?! The second one showed up??? Alright, fine, i'll digg you down on both, I know that you suck.
- Goldsun1715, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0Have you seen the prices on Lego sets these days? I doubt the fee is going to be anything cheap.

- BrapAllgood, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2What I'm sayin'.
- bradd12, on 02/26/2008, -3/+0I used to play Wow, but as a casual gamer who could only fit in a couple hours a week, I couldn't justify the price. If this game plays at or near the same quality at less cost per month, then it sounds pretty good to me, IMO.
- bradd12, on 02/26/2008, -2/+0What?! The first one showed up??? Alright, fine, digg me down on both, I know that I suck.

- camintmier, on 02/26/2008, -1/+15As long as this is a "no monthly fee" kind of game, like Guild Wars, I'll be all over this game like a metal bikini on a Princess Leia minifig.

- BrapAllgood, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1I find myself wondering how many other MMOs this can kill. All with a smile. : )
- mugicha, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2People still play that?
- ucbluman, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0people still play city of heroes?

- sonar_un, on 02/26/2008, -1/+4Blockland was a game built quite a while ago, and still was one of the best multiplayer experiences IMO. Very fun.
http://www.blockland.us/index.asp?p=Media - freedombob, on 02/26/2008, -1/+2all im going to do when this game comes out is fight zombies and mummys as johnny thunder, hes a bad ass.
- jayscot, on 02/26/2008, -4/+7Man, I must be too old for digg or something.
- tnvwboy, on 02/26/2008, -1/+11I just hope that the game is easier to use than the Lego Factory tool. It's really a pain to build with and with limited blocks and colors. I want to build a space ship and fly around dammit!
- maxlightz, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2agree completely here ... i tried that once and it was missing a TON of functionality ... such a great idea poorly executed
- PdxPhoenix, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2Oh god yeah. great idea just too clumsy to use easily ... especially if you're used to something like AutoCAD.
- GeorgeClayton, on 02/26/2008, -1/+4All your blue lights belong to me!
Hell, me and m brothers were playing our own Lego MMO when we were younger; had our own economy, battles, quests, customizable *****, etc.- GalacticRerun, on 02/26/2008, -2/+4Unless you had at least a thousand brothers it wasn't really Massive Multiplayer was it? Or Online. So it was just a game of Lego like everyone else. Except I never used to have ***** - I didn't have any brown blocks.
- Pissoff, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1A+ sir, A+
- matthewf01, on 02/26/2008, -2/+8I took a ***** this morning --- thing looked like a ***** meteorite.

- woodrow8292, on 02/26/2008, -8/+0Great! Just what all the 40 year olds who live at home with mom and build lego replicas of Star Wars ships need! A place online to waste more of their life! Great idea let's have 40 year old men playing a MMO aimed at kids. Nothing bad will ever happen with that idea....
- amnezia22, on 02/26/2008, -1/+13A game that adults and kids can play alike!! seems like a great idea until your kids discover the 'Get Your Bricks Off' Lego Whore House
- BCModder1, on 02/26/2008, -1/+0Dug up for the lol factor
- crushthecure, on 02/26/2008, -3/+0Yeah...
I need this in my life. - Stupidumb, on 02/26/2008, -1/+3BLACKTRON IS REAL
- Tserk, on 02/26/2008, -1/+14The griding possibilities of this game seem to be endless. I could see a quest where you'll need 250 brown bricks, 125 purple bricks (that drop from high level mobs) and 24 clear bricks (that only drop from the highest end raid) are needed to complete your Lego guild housing.
I pray that this game does not become a brick farming wonderland. - pasta2000, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1Wow!

- dstz, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1I hope that the next big MMO will the NCSoft game for which Tim Cain (Fallout, Arcanum, TTOEE, Vampire:Bloodlines) works.
- haterofps3, on 02/26/2008, -2/+3Does anyone remember this?

Imagine that on a scale of a couple million people!- sinrtb, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Nice article thanks!
- BrianClio, on 02/26/2008, -1/+12Trailer showing various aspects of the game: http://kotaku.com/gaming/exclusive/the-lego-univer ...
- diskit, on 02/26/2008, -0/+3Was that DBZ armor in the beginning?
It's a real shame none of that looks like actual game footage. - Vuredel, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Wow, LEGO people sound like jawas. Who knew?
- diskit, on 02/26/2008, -0/+3Was that DBZ armor in the beginning?
- fibreoptik, on 02/26/2008, -7/+2This is so NOT a WoW killer. Every time a new MMO comes out all these douchebags start chanting their lame little death-to-WoW mantra, hoping it will come true so they can post "I called it!" on their 1UP.com and Myspace "blogs" - that no one ever reads...
- InThePants, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Except every other MMO that gets announced is "Random story using LOTR lore and latin names"...this is Lego.
- mandarin, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Sim-killer perhaps?
- TnTBass, on 02/26/2008, -1/+3I'm eagerly awaiting the star wars vs pirates that just may happen. Swords vs lightsabers. Awesome.
- CaptainM4d, on 02/26/2008, -2/+2Does anyone else think this will make good competition for Spore? Not that they're exactly the same thing or serve the same function, but they are fundamentally creation games.
- Jeusek, on 02/26/2008, -4/+2only thing I will say is: Age of Conan
..... ill probably try lego too :p - saikyan, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1Bring back LEGO Space!! The M-Tron were the coolest!
- leerayIG88, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1I'd be one of those skeletons stealing some gold. Then a pirate will try and shoot me as I run away.
imo. -
