- inactive, on 01/06/2009, -2/+18Rockstar must pay game critics to say how awesome GTA IV was. Anyone who has played it know how mediocre it was. Multiplayer is fun for about a week and when you're done with story mode, there's little incentive to keep playing it. Freeplay mode hasn't really changed much since GTA 3 from like 8 years ago, it gets boring pretty quick.
- MrQuoz, on 01/06/2009, -1/+14GTA as the best game of the year? It was the most disappointing game I've ever had. It literally lost innovation from its previous titles. The story was boring, and it was all repetitively annoying gameplay. I literally got bored an hour into the game.

- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -3/+10Hell yeah. However, I think folks are too bitter about some of the random bugs. I've had that game crash and freeze on me more often than any other game, and yet I still think it deserves game of the year for sheer immersion factor.

- YouRookies, on 01/06/2009, -0/+5The game really deserves an 8/10. They hyped up GTA4 to be the greatest game ever. It has less features and cars than GTA:SA, Money is USELESS, the story is random as hell, and there wasn't a lot of buildings to enter.

I honestly liked Saints Row 2 better than GTAIV, but only because GTA really seemed to get rid of the ridiculous factor that made San Andreas so much fun. But I definitely wouldn't label SR2 as game of the year. - ValDeV, on 01/06/2009, -1/+5Xbox and PC have the same problem, its very annoying.
- petebot, on 01/06/2009, -0/+4I’m on my second playthrough of Fallout 3 and it is not getting old yet. Maybe because I swtched to a bad karma character and have a different place to live. I also figured out you can have followers and I think I still have about half of the map that I didn’t discover last time. That and I don’t really remember which Subway stations are connected, so it’s still a little tough to get around.

- bigbangbuddha, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2When I picked up the new GTA I was totally impressed on how well they executed it and created such a great new engine.... doing the same things I did 6 years ago (yawn). Sorry but GTA peaked at Vice City and has gone down hill ever since. Time for a new franchise please. Bully was a great reprieve, RockStar just needs more creative ideas like that.

I think GTA IV was a solid 9, and I can't understand people who call it mediocre. My only real issue in the game is that there are hardly any clothes. That's it. Other than that the game is amazing written, beautiful and well executed. - EtherCJ, on 01/06/2009, -0/+1over 6 months old and several items have changed significantly. For example, Bioshock is now not exclusive and the PS3 has exclusive content for that title.

all the forums, digg stories, reviews, etc I read were full of people bitching about this stuff, and yet they cite it as a plus? So it's fair to say that if I didn't enjoy any of the previous iterations, I wouldn't enjoy this one either? Good thing I didn't pick it up yet.

- doublebummer, on 01/08/2009, -0/+1I never understood the hate for GTA 4. Sure the nagging from Roland gets a little old. Sure the PC version is ***** up but then again almost all PC ports are ***** up.
Liberty City is a beautifully rendered. The story is engrossing. The game play is fun as hell. Great music. And, best of all, it's got Ricky Gervais cracking on kids with cancer. - JaIV, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1I'm not even going to try to defend GTA IV with all that hate going around. I'm just glad the professional journalists know how to appreciate it. No virtual world has ever capitvated me more than Liberty City, in the sense of being in a place you could really visit. Not even Hyrule, Azeroth or whatever can do what Liberty City does.

There have been many great games but every time I think about it MGS4 surpasses everything. Good to see a little Dead Space love tho. That game was great. Left 4 Dead also ended up being quite a great game...much better than I expected. Too bad the community is full of jack@sses that make it not fun online anymore.

- RafiParrr, on 01/06/2009, -3/+3I don't know if Braid beats out World of Goo or Audiosurf, but mostly this is a pretty sensible list. It seems like so many game of the year lists throw out controversial titles just to flame the fanboys and inflate traffic. Kudos to Kotaku for not doing that.
