- kirashira, on 11/15/2007, -3/+65Everyone seems to forget that the PS2 didn't really start dominating till its second/third year on the market.
- NGliam, on 11/15/2007, -65/+119Wii doesn't count. I thought we had all agreed on that now that eveyone stopped actually playing theirs.. for the most part at least.
- Step1Mark, on 11/15/2007, -19/+67go get Super Mario Galaxy
- Bodhesatva, on 11/15/2007, -7/+53Microsoft-heavy developers seem to be under the impression that Microsoft is dominating. And you know what? They do have some valid arguments: the 360 still has the highest install base in America (although it's lost the worldwide lead) and sells software like crazy, at a much faster clip than the Wii.
Nintendo-heavy developers seem to be under the impression that Nintendo is dominating. And you know what? They do have some valid arguments: the Wii is selling at an amazing clip, has already taken the lead in consoles sold from Microsoft in less than a year (or half the time that the 360 has been on the market), and Wii momentum only seems to be increasing, as more developers jump on board which should drive more sales which bring more developers, and so forth.
And then, Sony-heavy developers seem to be under the impression that everything is pretty much equal (I'm looking to you, Konami and Square). What should this tell us? - Wailord, on 11/15/2007, -1/+38Oh, thank God! I was beginning to worry you wouldn't let us know how you felt.
- postal21, on 11/15/2007, -25/+60IM NOT A TROLL... but seriously, I dont know anyone over the age of 12 that actually thinks their wii is next-gen.
xbox360, ps3, and PC are the next-gen game machines. Wii is like a secondary console to pickup to play some novelty games. - MewTwo, on 11/15/2007, -4/+39You're not even insulting anybody, like most obligatory "I'm a pc gamer" posts. You contribute nothing. Please, just... be quiet.
- otatop, on 11/15/2007, -2/+35I like turtles.
- mywhitenoise, on 11/14/2007, -6/+34I love Galaxy, and can't stand Halo, but you'd have to be a brainwashed Nintendo fanboy to think Galaxy will beat Halo 3's sales. The total week sales of Mario Galaxy probably won't even match the pre-sales that Halo 3 had.
- zachshmack, on 11/14/2007, -10/+36I don't know of anyone that's still as crazy about the Wii as when they first bought it. The wiimote gimmick is played out, and now people just want good games.
- Fanrir, on 11/15/2007, -0/+25I like Goldfish, so I'm not going to Digg, but I won't Bury.
- Jofaba, on 11/15/2007, -12/+36I wish it weren't true. I sat outside in the cold for hours for the Wii. It's been untouched for months. It was my first "next gen" console, and definately took up many hours. I still have fond memories of Wii Sports, but I've put as much money into the 360 since then and in comparison, my "regret ratio" is around 80% with the Wii, and zero with the 360. I'm no fanboy. I come from pc gaming and the 360 is impressive while the Wii leaves a lot to be desired. I have an hdtv and even with the $30 cable, the Wii looks like *****. And most of the games have tacked on motion controls.
I do not like Metroid Prime. I bought it, and do not like it. I think the Wii has failed, personally, as an FPS system. It's not just graphics. I'm not happy with the controls. I don't think screen edging is the right way to go.
I decided with Metroid Prime that I was done with the system. I really want to play the new Mario, and will, but it'll be "on my brother's system", as I plan to give my Wii to my little brother this Christmas.
I've put around a thousand dollars into the Wii, if you include games. I'm not rich. I make $13 an hour. No benefits. But I love gaming, and bought some games, rechargable batteries, another wiimote and nunchuck, a few wheels, etc. In the end, there's less than four games I actually enjoy playing on the Wii.
It's a shame, but it's also a reality. - atomicpoet, on 11/15/2007, -9/+30Must we go through this again? There's Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Battalion Wars 2, Zack and Wiki, and -- my current addiction -- Mercury Meltdown Revolution. Now, perhaps what you *really* meant to say is, "prior to it there wasn't anything I, personally, really liked to play".
You don't speak for most gamers. - Shrubber, on 11/14/2007, -4/+23Well, it is true. The Wii is winning the console market, but it isn't dominating it. The PS2 only had an enormous sales leg up on its competition since its third year or so of life. It's only barely the 360's third year, and almost the Wii and PS3's second year. It'll be a year or two before one console starts to really kick the snot out of the others. PS3 is already starting to get stepped on, but it's definitely not too far behind to take the lead if it gets a big enough boost in sales. That's a big IF, though. Traditionally, the market can't support three consoles for very long. The Wii , however, just might have expanded the market enough to allow all three consoles to survive, although they still won't all thrive.
- mywhitenoise, on 11/14/2007, -17/+36Nobody plays it, and nobody wants to develop good games for it, and their fans only want ***** ports of games that are on superior consoles (which is what's wrong with console in the first place).
All you ever hear from Wii fans is "Bring RE5 to Wii!" "I hope Bioshock gets ported to Wii" "Hopefully the GTAIV delay means it's coming to Wii!" "Port LittleBigPlanet to Wii!" "can wii have Assassin's Creed?", and the most ridiculous one I've ever heard "MGS4 should come to Wii as well". - Shanobi, on 11/14/2007, -6/+24Wii is only ahead of the 360 after the 360's year and a half lead, and sold more systems than the 360 in 8 months.
So yeah...enjoy your Kool-Aid. - whatthefu, on 11/14/2007, -1/+19That is one ***** ugly blog.
- xerus, on 11/14/2007, -1/+14A fan service thats getting a 97 metascore is fine by me.
- atomicpoet, on 11/14/2007, -4/+17One thing is for sure: Super Mario Galaxy will not beat Halo 3's sales this year. Perhaps it will during a five year period, but not this year.
- xerus, on 11/14/2007, -6/+19Well the 360 fans agreed to that, but I think some people out there are still enjoying theirs, especially with Metroid Prime 3 and Galaxy out-- and some other gems like Zack and Wiki ;D
- scallon, on 11/14/2007, -1/+14I wouldn't call a 7 year run as the top dog "dying." Retiring would probably be a better word. Give it a break, the thing can only kick so much ass before it needs to hand the reigns over to junior.
- YuriSakazaki, on 11/14/2007, -7/+20It's really true. I mean, I'm the first person to say graphics aren't everything, but even beyond graphics, the Wii is a severely underpowered console. No digital audio, no HD output, last gen visuals, a relatively weak cpu/gpu so physics and AI calculations are also limited... it's doing great now, but will the Wii be able to go the full 12 rounds against two clearly more advanced consoles?
- merdiesel, on 11/14/2007, -1/+13Xbox 360 = owned since launch and play it every other day if not everyday. Extremely satisfied.
Wii = owned since launch, played it a lot the first couple months, since then I rarely ever touch it. Massively disappointed so far.
PS3 = purchased today with the 20% off coupon at Kmart, and so far, I am loving this system. Tons of potential.
IMO, It's going to be a tight race between the PS3 and the 360, either way gamers, we win. - MewTwo, on 11/14/2007, -8/+19dude. it won't.
- mywhitenoise, on 11/14/2007, -3/+14Actually my consoles are Wii and PS3, I don't own a 360 (but I appreciate it for what it is, I just don't have a need for one).
- razrielle, on 11/14/2007, -4/+15So that means my dreamcast is still good?
- danielsousa, on 11/15/2007, -9/+20Buddy, You don't know how right you are. I have similar memories of Wii Sports and a few other games (I really love Trauma Center, which I rented and plan on buying at some point, I was like addicted to it). But since I bought a PS3, I haven't touched the Wii other than to play NES roms and Do everybody votes with my college roommates.
The PS3 just does way more, its a better system overall. Take this example.
I just moved to California to start an internship with Google (I'm here until march). I was strapped for space, but I wanted to bring down a gaming system, because I love video games. I was also planning on buying an HDTV down here and shipping it back, but I didn't have a lot of space to take stuff with me. I had to make a choice, Wii (or in my case glorified NES) or PS3. The choice was obvious, a console with no good games coming out for a while(I haven't played Metroid prime yet and obviously cant play Mario since I don't have my Wii, but Im really just looking forward to SSB and thats in Feb), which also does nothing aside from play games...and sorry I don't count browsing the internet at 720 x 480 resolution, real web browsing, although I can almost get the youtube videos on full screen if I center the browser right. Or I can take the PS3, which plays DVDs and Blu-Ray, stream music from my laptop, high def browser, Music player, and plays games. Much better fit for me in this situation. I'm not a Sony fanboy, I love all the systems, I'd get an Xbox if I didn't already spend too much money on games. I also took my DS with me since it was, well, portable.
The Wii can't do FPS, it can't do most of the things XBox and PS3 can do with media and high def. The motion sensor is getting old, since you can't get realistic movements yet with the technology. But you know what the most messed up part is? When you take away all of the ***** the Wii was supposed to innovate with, you are left with the first party titles the Nintendo always has, which quite frankly, are the only reason I bought the system. So until Nintendo releases a first party title 2-3 times a year at max, I'll be bored...or playing PS3. - atomicpoet, on 11/14/2007, -13/+24No console is dominating yet. The Wii is only ahead of the Xbox 360 by half a million units. Still, if the current pace of Wii sales holds up over long term, Wii will dominate.
- Elranzer, on 11/14/2007, -1/+11Any posts which bashes the Mario series for being "more-of-the-same sequels" and then praises Final Fantasy gets instant-bury from me (and probably many others).
- sanman, on 11/14/2007, -2/+12Thanks for that. Please also confirm to us that you suck but don't swallow.
- MaTT2011, on 11/14/2007, -5/+15Sorry to break this to you dude but....Mario is the single most recognizable figure in all of entertainment next to Mickey mouse and Coca-Cola; Nintendo doesn't need to advertise *****. Mario is a multi-national, multi-cultural, icon of tremendous proportions. And why is that? Because his games are of the utmost quality, the gameplay is timeless, his titles can be enjoyed by anyone and the fun his games produce in the populace spans GENERATIONS.
MS may need to advertise to death their faceless space marine because of his complete lack of personality, charisma and challenging intelligent gameplay but Nintendo just needs to merely put out a a mario game and because of his and their reputation everyone knows automatically that the gameplay is going to be amazing and the production qualities unparalleled. No one said Mario Galaxy was going to be "Revolutionary" ... No game is; but Mario Galaxy IS representative of a massive evolution in console gaming gameplay...more so than any other game on x360 or ps3.
So don't be jealous. If you want contrived, useless, story lines you can keep playing the same final fantasy game over and over again if you like but those of us who value gameplay are going to flock to the stores to pick up the next GOTY: Mario Galaxy - JKVM, on 11/14/2007, -0/+9Well, I dug you up. Facts are hardly relevant on Digg. This is the land of opinion, hype, and fanboyism. Don't post facts and expect not to be dug down.
Some guidelines:
Sony Hate = Digg
Microsoft Hate = Digg
Apple Hate = Bury
Nintendo Hate = Bury
Those, my friend, are the facts on Digg. - dustinmacdonald, on 11/14/2007, -1/+10Don't forget Super Paper Mario.
- Foxhound1979, on 11/15/2007, -4/+12I own a PS3 and once upon a time Will which since has been sold and I am thinking of getting a 360 but still on the fence about it. Okay folks if we get technical the Wii is dominating world wide hardware sales AND THATS IT!!
The 360 comes in second in hardware sold world wide and first in overall world wide software sales. Halo 3 further increased sales of MS Xbox 360 and theres no denying it.
PS3 sadly is third on both category but IS slowly making up ground with both hard ware and software sales. I believe that neither Sony or MS will ever catch up to Nintendo's hardware sales as it is still the cheaper of the 3 and a lot of ppl that have stopped gaming at SNES or the original NES is picking up the Wii. Nintendo's overall software sales may come close to MS but I doubt will catch up. The novelty of the Wii will wear out as it has already with me and a few of my friends. I think that a few gamers can only take so many version of Mario and a Kart game with a fresh coat of paint. Nintendi will eventually have to come up with games that will appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers and hopefully not one with a plumber in it or green tunic wearing blonde kid or karts etc etc.
Again Nintendo = Hardware King (for now and maybe for good)
MS Xbox 360 = Software mainly, hardware 2nd
PS3 = Over 5 millions units sold and growing - lime148, on 11/14/2007, -6/+14Now you're thinking like Sony! Expecting the PS3 to succeed based on the PS2.
- Smwbigboss, on 11/14/2007, -4/+12Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Medal of Honor Heroes are some good releases for this month.
- lilbitmoreslyk, on 11/14/2007, -0/+8@KingGoonie, you really are a f**king goon
- NiGHTSChao, on 11/14/2007, -21/+29The wii? Dominating?
I don't think so, if the Wii was dominating, then it would actually have games worth playing, not ***** remakes with a tweaked story - Shaflugi, on 11/14/2007, -4/+11What's a good 360 game that isn't out or coming out for PC?
Gears of War got repetitive and boring, Dead Rising got repetitive and boring, Crack down... got repetitive and boring.
Halo 3 is pretty nice for when friends are over.
I'm no fanboy, but i'm having an awful hard time finding something worthwhile for me on the 360. - Shrubber, on 11/14/2007, -1/+8The Xbox 360 launched on November 22, 2005. It's only going to be in its second year for 10 more days. After that, it will officially be in its third year.
- danielsousa, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7This is what I've been trying to tell everyone, Casual players don't buy games. All the people on Digg that have Wii might buy just as many games as the xbox players, but its just simply not true overall. We'll see Nintendo sales and stock SKYROCKET, because the best games for Wii are ALWAY first party, but third party games are always going to sell better on Xbox in this generation and PS2 in the last.
- JKVM, on 11/15/2007, -3/+10I totally agree. I bought my Wii and loved it, but I found that once the motion sensing "joy" wore off, there really isn't that much more there. There's a few great games, including Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid, but there's not really a ton of innovation there. When people (non gamers) think Wii, they think of Wii Sports. That's great for initial sales, but it doesn't do much to establish a long life for a console.
Whenever someone comes over who hasn't played the Wii, I break out Wii Sports Tennis, and we have a blast. Nobody in this new "grandma the casual gamer" category cares to see Super Mario. Wii Sports and Wii Play shouldn't be top "selling" games on a dominating system. - skyfire1, on 11/14/2007, -6/+13I love how Nintendo fans think that Halo 3 is the only good game that the 360 has.
- smek2, on 11/15/2007, -0/+6Yeah, my thoughts exactly. This kiddo lost me at the very first paragraph with this childish sentence:
"say that no console is dominating…hello! Anyone remember the Nintendo Wii?"
heellooo? Fanboy alarm. - MetalLizard, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7I own a Wii, but let's think here for a second. Imagine that Nintendo did not ever exist, and the Wii was developed by some unknown, yet new, console maker. All of the same games we have today, are on the Wii. Mario, Zack and wiki, Metroid, etc... Would the sales STILL be the same, or would people not like it as much? I'll have to admit. I bought the Wii, well, because it's from Nintendo, but I haven't played it in weeks. The wii motes got gimmicky, Metroid Prime 3 seemed too generic. Paper mario was at best a rental... Wii sports? Oh, that was fun for about an hour. The only time I find myself playing the wii is for the virtual console. Let's hope super smash brothers brawl, and the new mario kart will bring things back into gear. I am going to get super mario galaxy when I can afford it, but for now I am going to stick to PC gaming.
- Jofaba, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7Sorry, that's the first time I've had a double post. Not sure how it happened. Nothing weird happened as I posted. I feel bad for wasting browser height though.
I'd appreciate as many digg downs as possible on the second post so my first isn't dugg down simply out of annoyance from the odd double posting. - fallenone05, on 11/14/2007, -2/+8if you are what??? don't leave me hanging like that! the suspense kills me!
- Username314, on 11/14/2007, -1/+7Because, in case you haven't noticed, most of the posters here are Wii fanboys. Any combination of phrases such as "360", "#1", "beating Wii" gets you Dugg down automatically.
- skyfire1, on 11/14/2007, -3/+9Everyone here on digg hyped up the Wii like it would be almost virtual reality. I bought it on my birthday and I've never been so disappointed with a gaming system in my life. Red Steel had bad ai and the controls were abysmal. Twilight Princess was a clone of every Zelda game. Wario Ware was too short. Every game on the Wii is sub par and disappointing. After leaving it in the dust for 4 months, I came to my sense and sold it for $300. I bought a 360 and I must say I've never been more content with a video game system in my life. Rainbow Six Vegas, Bioshock, and Lost Planet are but a few of the many treasures the 360 holds. I know how Wii lovers here are going to say how I should have waited for Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy and that's just fine. If you want to wait 6-9 months for another good title, more power to you. Just don't be crying when you've beat them and I'm still having fun blasting away on Call of Duty 4. Okay, I'm done ranting. Wii owners everywhere probably hate me for writing this.
- atomicknuckles, on 11/14/2007, -5/+11I personally havent touched my Wii in about 3 months, its sitting in a drawer and will be staying there for the immediate future. i dont give two ***** about mario galaxy since i got my fill of next generation platforming with ratchet: TOD. the 360 is starting to lose steam for me, ive been shootered out at this point and aside from mass effect there isnt much on the horizon that really grabs me. meanwhile the ps3 is picking up steam and starting to kick ass, at least as far as the games i play go. TOD was outstanding, ranking issues aside Warhawk has been a blast and Uncharted is going to be a lot of fun.
it doesnt really matter to me which console "wins" but anyone who lumps the Wii into this generations "war" is delusional. its like comparing a toyota yaris to two high end luxury sedans. -

What is Digg?
