- HawkTail, on 10/12/2007, -4/+226Why are they STILL letting Ken Kutaragi talk?
- DiggityDugged, on 10/12/2007, -0/+81in six directions, yes
- d1rtfarm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+67Never mind. I'm not putting my wang anywhere near one of Sony's batteries.
- aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54The original comment by Kutaragi was done on Watch Impress, a Japanese site, the interviewer, Honda, said an AV-centric PS3 would be the next logical the for the PS3, he asked Kutaragi and he replied, 'I would like that too, I'll promise to start a project". This was a very short blurb on an article that was really about network features of the PS3 that even the writer treated it as such.
This was then picked up by Engadget and blown into "Kutaragi sez 'I promise' a AV-centric PS3". After which, the other sites picked it up and started adding other speculation such as it costing $2,000, "anti-shake isulators", and a healthy amount of Sony-bashing that had nothing to do with the original comment.

Did you RTFA? The source is Engadget. - aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+48Not to mention they already tried doing a "deluxe" and "prosumer" version of the gaming platform for PS2/PS1 called the PSX. It was overpriced, wasn't compatible with memory cards (if memory serves) and not only was a big failure, but confused consumers and prosumers more than Sega did when they released the 32X, Sega CD, Genesis, and Saturn platforms all within a few short years.
Ken my boy, history has already made your mistakes for you so why bother to reenact offstage? - d1rtfarm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41Does it give handjobs?
- Y0tsuya, on 10/12/2007, -14/+42bury me
- sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27No but you're going to be giving plenty of them just to afford the damn thing.
- jpatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20So long as I'm not the one paying for the bullets, I enjoy watching them do it!
- boomerxl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Don't worry it's Digg, nobody will know it's from the article.
- DiggityDugged, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22I don't see how even Kutaragi could have the balls to tell the world something like this. Give us enough PS3s before spending time on another project, jeez Sony. Are you guys still wasting money on a dynamic shaping bathtub?! bastards!
- probune, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19It's probably not going to come out either. Ken said some crazy ***** about the PS3 before it actually launched, like how it would be "built to order" but that never ended up happening.
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20My local best buy has more than 30 in stock right now because people are returning them. If you want a PS3, come to the D.C. area... or anywhere else for that matter. Last I checked, PS3 supply is *exceeding* demand.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Yeah, I went to gamestop today to see how used game prices were fairing in the wake of the next generation. I was amazed to see employees there frantically working to prepare dozens of returned ps3 boxes for return. I've always been skeptical of Sony's competence in this console war, but I never expected to see anything like that.
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11No, he hates you, but loves your money! :P
- Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It's basically a second version of their PSX which didn't do well either. It's like Nokia trying to keep N-Gage cool.
Just more multimedia *****! Awesome!
Now where are the games? - lofiboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10So it sold quite a bit a year or two ago.
Does that matter now that the DS Lite is raping it tenfold EVERY week? - destructoid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Considering that some jackasses paid $2000 for a standard PS3 I think they might be able to sell this to a select group of hi fi big ballers. But if Kotaragi thinks this is what the mass market wants, please direct him to the abandoned PS3's stacking up at your local Target.
- Araya213, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Please, as if any developer is going to waste money making a game that needs the expanded capacity of Blue Ray. Why would they go the extra mile to make the games longer and more expansive than the competition when they already know you'll buy whatever garbage they manage to crap onto a store shelf. You already bought the PS3, you might as well have written "Sucker" across your forehead.
- SPARTACVS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"twice the main memory..."
Great! Now it finally has as much RAM as the $300 Xbox 360 Core! - DiggityDugged, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13i still say they just make a limited edition PS3 that costs 1 million dollars. if just one fool buys it then they'll get some of their losses back
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8No its not! Its for frigging idiots!!!
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/20/ken-kutaragi-sez-i-promise-an-av-centric-ps3/
There you go! :) - cyph3rzer0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Knowing Sony, only 1 will ever be built, so get in line early!
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Does Sony enjoy shooting itself in the foot multiple times?
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The problem with the returns is all those jackasses bought them to profit off of it. Now they are realizing they spent days in line and there is no profit to be made anymore. Not because they don't like it. The PS3 has potential in my opinion, but they should have had stronger launch titles for it to succeed this early. I'm a fan of the Japanese game style and i don't think the 360 will be supporting that too much. I'm loving my 360 right now and i think only time will tell for the PS3.
- 5hop4orce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think high-end AV equipment aims for or requires a mass audience. As long as they don't sell the unit at a loss, they could make money on this even if they only sell a few ten-thousand units.
- jpatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thank goodness for living on the Eastern Shore of MD (just on the other side of the Bay from DC)... now if I just had the money...
Oh wait. That's the problem I had with PS3 in the FIRST place! - BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I love how there are STILL people that think the PS3 is better at rendering games than the 360. The GPU alone is just a sad comparison. The CPU's are more comparable but the 360's GPU (basically an ATi PC DX10 prototype video card) is much, much better and faster than the PS3's. When it comes to games having stunning visuals (GFX ARE IMPORTANT, ever heard of the term immersion?) the GPU is the most important part of a gaming machine.
- Cojawfee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7My computer is more powerful than the PS3 and it only cost me $1400. So, I will obviously spend $2500 for this.
- HeatVision, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah, but for $2500 you get Gran Turismo HD with *ALL* the cars and tracks ;)
- expiredmeatbag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5um, then it wouldn't be able to read the ps3 disks.
- shoeshine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What happened to it being the cheap media center of your house? Wasn't the whole reason they're saying it's not a complete ***** ripoff to charge $600 bucks for a toy because it has Blu-ray and is going to be an integral part of your media system? Now they're going to say that the media system is more expensive than an hdtv? Wow. Okay. ***** you.
- Redchannel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This has to be fake, Sony cant be that stupid. Can they...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6So, basically he's saying they're going to offer the PS3 version of the Panasonic Q, eh? Smart idea since that system did so well.
http://www.gamebunker.com/install/pages.php?id=29 - arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I can't wait to see this become the next CD-i...
Only a very small portion of the market can afford it, so no studios will want to develop games for it. - VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If I could digg this twice, I would.
Too funny. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Ken Kutaragi - He hates you, and your money.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, that's really a lot of hate. Do you keep it in a jar?
- dapperdrake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is awesome. I would totally buy a PS3 but they are just WAY to cheap! This is perfect!
- TangentThought, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"The original comment by Kutaragi was done on Watch Impress, a Japanese site, the interviewer, Honda, said an AV-centric PS3 would be the next logical the for the PS3, he asked Kutaragi and he replied, 'I would like that too, I'll promise to start a project". Doesn't matter, people still insist on the negative spin. It'll be so much easier and less annoying not to even know the existence of Ken. - maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6omg, I am totally buying a ps3 now! I love you, Sony!!!
This is hilariously sad. - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6so you're saying it'll be the fastest selling system in Sony's history? I don't think they'd mind that one bit.
- DanielNielsen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ha ha i like you calling us 360 owners haters and ***** like that, when all you do it bitch and moan over the 360, your no ***** different than any other basher here, so shut the ***** up and crawl back to your moms ***** will ya.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3More ridiculous than charging $200 more per console than a competing XBOX 360? Thats not to say though that they had a better idea by using UMD for movies on the PSP. If they had simply dropped blu-ray from the stock PS3 so they could charge less they wouldn't have systems piling up and ebay auctions might be making a profit instead of a loss. Oh and if the PSP had supported a DivX standard file off of SD cards out of the box then they might have sold a few more units.
- maxbass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Think back 12 to 18 months...
Would you have ever believed Sony would be in the position they are at this very moment? Anyone who would have told me today's reality for the PS3 after the 2005 E3 event would have been ridiculed (by me) to no end. Now it appears the one to be ridiculed is Sony. I would feel bad for them if they hadn't continued to lie to me over and over and over. Karma has a funny way of dealing with this type of behavior. I just hope Sony can hang on to 20-25% market share so Microsoft will still have some semblance of competition for their next console launch in 2010.
Microsoft has a way of applying constant pressure to competitors which goes to amplify any mistakes. - JrGhoull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@gwolf
unless sony figured out right before the system came out that it was going to be a total flop, i doubt that was their original intention. though admittedly you may be onto something. they may have figured that they could salvage the flop by turning it more towards media (i myself believe that in a few years down the road when the ps3 has come down to about 400 and there are enough games out, that there will be a small window of oppotunity for sony to have the ps3 make huge headway in sales by focusing then on how much better now the games on the ps3 look than the xbox 360 or wii, of course its the game itself that matters, and not how it looks)
currently however, what i personally believe sony could do in order to corner the market in a way that neither the xbox360 or wii have done yet, but that a LOT of people want, as shown on technology forums throughout the net. that being to make a ps3 laptop. i honestly think that if they put the ps3 into laptop form, and make it so that u can take advantage of the innards even in "operating system form" (from my understanding you can only use a little bit of the ps3s cell power and what not while using Linux on it) that it would be a huge success. if they were able to keep the price from only going up another hundred or 2, they could sell a high end piece of gaming technolgoy at semi low end laptop prices. people could take it around and use it for taking notes, internet, presentations, whatever you need/use a laptop for, it'll do. and if you were to get a moment or two to yourself, you could get in a few moments of your favorite game (though where you would keep the controller is certainly an issue however) in case whoevers reading this is still skeptical, and still isnt convinced that such a product would be successful, go to this site: http://www.benheck.com/Games/Xbox360/x360_page_5.htm the photo will say what my words cannot. - pirotess, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8It'll be as successful as the PSP.
- Y0tsuya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For even entertaining such a suggestion, Kutaragi has shown how out-of-touch he has become to the gaming public. Ken-chan, please get your head out of your ass. You're becoming a self-feeding phenomenon.
