Katmari for Wii Confirmed!
wiitards.net — "Namco has confirmed that the cult classic will make it on to the Wii. The current release date is sometime for November. With Keita Takahashi apparently out of the picture for the future releases of Katamari the series may be in for some trouble....

- MasterBeowulf, on 10/12/2007, -21/+6who didn't see this one coming....?
- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12This was confirmed a week or two ago, so it's nothing new.
However, tilt control with my Wiimote and Katamari make for a great pair... Can't wait. - airwalkery2k, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24I've died and gone to Nintendo heaven.
- contradictator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Man, imagine they slip in some Nintendo references. One bonus level could have you tearing thru the Mushroom Kingdom, rolling up coins and Goombas, or maybe Hyrule! Gah! Excited!
- PwnisherX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+78Wii ♥ Katamari?
- AshTR, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I think it will be like the PS2's analog sticks. You tilt the nunchuck like the left analog stick and tilt the wiimote like the right analog stick.
Anyway....Katamari + Wii = Awesome. - sam10685, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4what the hell is Katamari?
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sweet, awesome, great ... but I'm more interested in a DS version.
Katamari on-the-go, that's even better... :) - FreydNot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Well, there is already a PSP version...
- JagoX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11...and the PSP version sucks. Trying to roll around the katamari with a D-pad and the 4-face buttons was in no way as fun as using 2 analog sticks.
- CherryTzors, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do
Katamari on the Wiiiiiiiiii.
- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12This was confirmed a week or two ago, so it's nothing new.
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -12/+14The source is a bit um.. absent, but great news if it's true. The PS2 is the only last gen console I don't have and I'd really love to see some of the PS2-only games appear on the Wii with a slight upgrade or two. It'd be nice if they'd release both Damacy and We ♥ Katamari together for the price of one game, but they probably want to milk us consumers too much to do that.
- trer, on 10/12/2007, -25/+6I thought everyone had at least a PS2 while the other 2 were optional.
- hartley, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12Not all of us. I'm in the same boat. 20+ consoles (including handhelds) and I don't have a ps2 yet either. The Box and Cube got my money first because of Live, and being a Nintendo fanboy (I'm able to admit Nintendo's mistakes, but I will blindly buy a system simply because it has Nintendo written on it). Ill buy one when I can get it for $50 *which is about what its worth to me.*
- Renton, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10I originally bought a Gamecube for Super Smash Bros and Metroid Prime and it was the cheapest at the time. A few months ago, I bought a used Xbox for XBMC.
I never really got into PS2. - Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3So, the PS2's thousand-game library is only worth $50?
I mean, I'm not a Sony fanboy, but you think you could grow up a bit and at least admit that it's not that it's not worth a lot, it's that your cheap? - gundamoak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually i fit in the same boat. The first console I bought was a gameboy, n64, then XBOX. Now i have a 360 and PC. It had nothing to do with being cheap but simply that when I wanted to buy a new console (1 year after the ps2 came out) i chose XBOX over ps2, because i felt the xbox was better. That's my opinion.
- Billiam627, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3I wonder how the controls are going to be worked. Rolling the katamari is so basic it seems needlessly complicated to get the wiimote/nunchuck duo involved. I bet using the GC controller would kick ass...
- timpkmn89, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Hold the Wiimote and tilt it to move the Katamari in the respective direction. It's like those old wooden games with the ball in the maze.
- tange1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It would seem to make sense to use the same controls as Super Monkey Ball BB. For anyone who's not played it: The controls are exactly as timpkmn89 described.
- Soapdish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No, it would probably be done with a wiimote-nunchuk combo. Same as using two joysticks, but with motion sensing instead.
- punchingjudy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+57Oh! I feel it! I feel the Cosmos!
- wtfmate112, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Now if they only put Katamari on the DS.
- digga34, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Kat_mari is the sh*t !
- morrislevy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1AWESOME, but *ahem* old news...
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I always thought katamari would be best fit on a nintendo system. Kudos for nintendo for a great 3rd party grab.
- YouRookies, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Am I the only person who didn't like the Katamari series? Although it was fresh at the time, I just thought it was......boring.
- vd0man, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1I agree. It was novel concept, and the art and music was exceptional, but the game itself couldn't hold my interest for more than a few minutes.
- hartley, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4I was disappointed when I found out there was limits. I was hoping to ball up the entire universe, or galaxy (at least give me a solar system)
- Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It is kinda dry in the beginning, but in the second game when you get to run around the world for I believe it is 10 mins, but don't quote me on that, and you can pick up islands. I got big enough to roll up the king, but the queen was eluding me. I'll get her yet!
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8They should have a free roam part of the game where you can just keep rolling things up until you roll everything in the cosmos.
- gormenghast, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5There is nothing I don't like about this headline.
- Charron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, I'm not a huge fan of the misspelling. :P
That said, this is a lot like the Guitar Hero "announcement" a little while ago: nothing new. Maybe, the November release date is new, but I thought we all knew Katamari was coming.
- Charron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, I'm not a huge fan of the misspelling. :P
- vd0man, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3While this will most likely happen, there is absolutely no source cited and not a single major game news site has reported this yet. This is still strictly a rumor at this point.
- xIOptimousIx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I cant wait they should have made it for the DS or even a xbox 360 arcade game
- Guagloves, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3hooray this is going to be so much fun.
- xellxero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I love this time of the year when a ton of games and features are announced for consoles to reassure me that my 200+ was well spent.
- lowlevel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Don't forget about $600-800 on games and accessories.
- jacenat, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2how's this a classic when it was released last year?
- Elric1977, on 10/22/2007, -8/+3Weeks old news. Bury.
Why don't people that POST on Digg, actually READ Digg too. Makes for WAY less dupes. - nalt777, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2bring on the KATAMAR-WII !!!
- nochilinopity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3this news was broken by orange lounge radio
- grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If the Wii has already enough games of a type, its the type of games where you roll a ball around by tilting the Wiimote. Now Katamari is all great and such, but whatever happen to the innovation?
- Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1In before another nail in the PS3 coffin...
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This shouldnt be a surprise to anyone
- foxmajik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Repetitive stress lawsuit go.
- CBanga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It kind of is a BIG surprise if you keep up with gaming news and you remember this old interview with the creator of Katamari..
"GamaSutra: What do you think of the Wii?
Keita Takahashi: I'm not really interested in it. I don't think a controller should have that much influence on the enjoyment of games. I see what [Nintendo is] trying to do, but they're putting such emphasis on the controller; 'Woah, this controller lets you do this!' and I'm thinking - are you messing with us? So, there's nothing I really want to do with it right now."

Oh well, either way this is great news for Nintendo fans like me.- grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When I remember correctly Takahashi didn't wanted to do the sequel We ♥ Katamari either and wasn't involved in the PSP at all if I recall correctly. That of course doesn't stop Namco from actually doing those things.
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, he doesn't want to get trapped doing Katamari games forever. Personally I think he's making a huge mistake and alienating fans. People wanted a sequel and Namco had to twist his arm to make him do it. He's not showing a lot of love or appreciation for his fanbase and that's always a mistake. I'm sure he has other ideas he wants to try out but that doesn't mean he can't give us a few more Katamaris first.
- crimsonalucard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1HE does have a point. Specification-wise, the wii is the worst console. It's only advantage is the controller.
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Na naaa, na na na nana na naaa, KatamaWii Damacyyy...
This game is going to be so great.- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2its idiots like you that ruin the gaming industry
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't think I could have lasted another year without one of the most pleasant time-killers I've ever come across.
- Ninja337, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I was going to buy a PS3 before I heard this news.
- Itazura, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Except that there is another version of Katamari comming out for ps3 and 360, just nobody on the digg talks about it because it isnt nintendo.
- Absentee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0If the control system doesn't involve rolling around on the floor it would be the biggest injustice known to gaming.
Oh well, guess there's always drunken DDR. - phmcd10, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Lots of Nintendo Wii items for sale.
http://www.wiifinders.com - tektalk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Naaaaa na na na na na nananana.....
- ryanwarnersteel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Buried as a ***** dupe. This is 3 stories on the top 10. ***** man, read/listen more and post/talk less.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sweet. I have always wanted to play this with having buy anything made buy Sony.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Whoa....I think I need to lay off the crack.
- DelSolMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Let the hamster ball accessory rumors begin.
- mk32066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YES!!
- amyfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"We are moved to tears by the size of this thing."
"We broke it. Yes, we were naughty. Completely naughty. So, so very sorry. But just between you and us, it felt quite good." - adhd123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yes! too bad i don't toke it up anymore... still gonna be fun though
- dtkmike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i recon they might make the controls it so u have to actually push it... i.e. literally move ur right or left arm forward to turn, both at the same time to move forward... because the reason the made the wii mote as it is, is to make the games more involving, and so to just treat the nunchuck and wiimote as joysticks seems to me that they while makeing it simpler, wouldnt be using the controls to their full advantage.. thoughts?
- directive0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If they did that I would probably voluntarily throw my remote through my television.
- Deekman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I guess Orange Lounge Radio is right. Although I'm not gonna get this version I will get the PS3 (if I can afford one by then) or the 360 version though.
