- MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I disagree. I think the controller should have an influence on how enjoyable a game is. It's your main point of interaction with the game after all.
I'm sure he'd change his mind if he gave the console a chance. Touching is believing after all. - wolkengrau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Frankly said this is not like him.
I quote a German magazine article as proof:
"That is exactly what he dislikes about the gaming industry: the sequel madness. 'Would you ban sequels most of the developers were bankrupt within a short span of time.', he jokes. From his point of view there needs to be put more energy, effort and money into new, unknown gaming concepts to evolve games as a whole."

Now this is exactly what the Wii does, Takahashi seems incosequential and unstable. The Wii follows his ideals the most. The 360 and the PS3 do exactly what he doesn't like. If the Wii doesn't excite him, why stay in the business at all? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6im going to laugh when everyone wants a piece of the wii action and no one cares about what he does
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Too many companies still aren't pushing the Wii to it's potential. I'm just seeing a lot of rehashed games I'm used to but with new ways to play them. Let's see more games along the lines of Elebits, Super Monkey ball (yeah its out/been done, but it was dying for this controller), and Warioware. Third party companies are keeping it safe, but I'm sure glad Nintendo is making games like Pikmin and Animal Crossing. We'll definately see the most inovative games strictly from Nintendo. Third party companies will attract the hardcore gamer.
I've grown up, and unlike most people who grew up and have jobs to spend money on a PS3, I'm not interested in spending hours upon hours sitting at a videogame anymore. Besides, my woman would hate that. The Wii is something we can both enjoy for a good hour or so and pick it up when we're bored. Hopefully many my age feel the same and third party companies start to see it's the New Ideas that are being sold, not Old Ideas.
Nintendo, I quit games a little over 2 years ago... and so quickly you've brought me back in. The Wii is the only console I'm getting. You did your job. - bobeotm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It seems to be a very valid view, although this is pretty old news. He agrees Sequelitis isnt a great thing, but he feels that a controller shouldn't have that much controll over the way games are made. Whats Stupid about that? When the contol scheme dictates that games have to include elements that may not actually make these games better. Just think of the number of games on the DS where the touch sceen functions are more of a nuisance than an improvement on gameplay. Although there are alot of great games that take advantage of the functionality, there are just as many that are made worse for it. He just doesn't think a control scheme should have that much influence over a developers creativity.
- LordSkywalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Trust me, he will regret his decision.
- BAKER, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Very odd stance for him to take considering style of his games.
I think the wiimote would be perfect for Katamari, Too bad he doesnt. - Surreal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree fully.
- MysticX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think that guy is high!
- Surreal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why do we care what he says? He made one inovation, and then all of a sudden he gets credit? He's a game developer, I'm sure he has a TON of insight.
By the way his sequel was sub par, it was the same game with a different sound track. I'd call that an expansion pack. I think he could have innovated a little there too. - Nidis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can see where he's coming from... but its still a very stupid view, especially for someone like him. He doesn't want to 'do' anything with the controller? Ok, design something with the lightgun in mind, even the gamecube controller, use your IMAGINATION. You'd think someone as creative would him would have a bit of a more open mind, huh?
