- MrBogard, on 07/03/2008, -5/+22The King of Kong is a VERY good movie, but it's also extremely biased and set out to make Billy Mitchell look like a douchebag. The truth was that he had been taking a break from gaming when they insisted that he, "do it live," and the movie was shot and cut in a way that went out of its way to make him look like an *****. Since the filming of King of Kong, he's re-set the Donkey Kong world record in front of a live audience and still holds it today.
That doesn't mean that he's not full of himself, and he's definitely afraid of losing.. he's got some character flaws, for sure, but I think that film was ultimately pretty unfair to Mitchell. You can't deny he has skills. He was holding on to that tape, perhaps for years, just in case anyone broke his DK record, and after practicing and returning to the game, he did it live and is now on top of his little geek mountain again.

Billy Mitchell does deserve the amount of fame he gets because he truly is one of the greatest gamers of this generation. Steve Wiebe's DK score set a new standard for the game, which gave Billy Mitchell another challenge.

But he does make some absurdly egotistical statements throughout the movie which you can't blame on editing. And throughout both competitions he had a minion giving him the play-by-play over the phone.
