Goooooood Byeeeeeeee!!! - Renian, on 05/21/2008, -1/+130Guilty on 27 out of 31 charges, and they are wondering if he should be disbarred? They should be wondering whether he should be imprisoned. Disbarred is a given.

- Kral, on 05/21/2008, -0/+58Don't worry Jack, if your career looks near death, you can always just pick up a hooker to replenish its hit points!
- snareguy17, on 05/21/2008, -1/+46Next up, Uwe Boll to stop making movies?
- rentmitchum, on 05/21/2008, -9/+53First comment on a story destined for front page and a Fight Club reference to boot. I see great things in your future sir.
(to boot? where the hell does that expression come from, and how did I just use it?) - insomniac8400, on 05/21/2008, -10/+49The RIAA is just as guilty in abusing the legal system. Why aren't their lawyers being disbarred?
- djtyrant, on 05/21/2008, -3/+39Finally!
- RandomGorilla, on 05/21/2008, -0/+35Double irony bonus points if he's forced to get a job at Gamestop.
- zyklon, on 05/21/2008, -0/+35It's not a matter of if he should be disbarred, it's a matter of "why the Hell hasn't he been disbarred yet!?"
- dgaspard, on 05/21/2008, -6/+38Unfortunately Fox News will still use him as an expert
- ripple123, on 05/21/2008, -2/+33Hark! Do I hear yonder the clarion call of justice, much delayed, but sweet nonetheless? The death cry of a douchebag? I bloody hope so.

Google for Jack Thompson's picture book and you'll find other sources as well - the gamepolitics one, which I would have preferred, was down for an upgrade at the time of this writing. - inactive, on 05/21/2008, -0/+29the funniest part of the article was where the court said that they wouldnt accept anything further from thompson unless signed by another lawyer. The fact that he insulted the judge, basically did insane shenanigans in his trial, and the whole case is over perjury, deceit and similar things, it makes me wonder what chance he has.
Now in other states (I never looked into florida) the bar association (plantiff in this case) can disbar anyone for its listed reasons, a conviction of these things would certainly on their face be grounds (NY, NJ and CA are the only states I looked into). Why they took him to court is a slight mystery to me, unless there is some guaranteed challenge thing to be disbarred.
That said generally bar associations look after their own to the detriment of clients of these lawyers. They will do everything they can to protect lawyers. In California for example it wasnt that long ago (few years) when they were talking about disbanding the bar association and making it a state agency because of these problems. I cant imagine that florida is any better. - jellygraph, on 05/21/2008, -2/+30Apparently Jack doesn't know jack about being a lawyer. Maybe he should have heeded gamers advice and his career would not be in jeopardy as it is now. Somehow, he's going to blame GTA4 though. "GTA4 got me fired. Its a conspiracy with Rockstar and the government colluding at the highest level!"
- Shadowgamers, on 05/21/2008, -2/+29'with 400 "pleadings, e-mails, letters and missives (including pictorials)" sent by Thompson since the end of the trial.'
Ahahaha - UltX, on 05/21/2008, -0/+25This made my day.
- inactive, on 05/21/2008, -1/+25I really need to see that book:
"The book contained pictures of swastikas, a copied dollar bill, monkeys, and, in a surreal touch, a handprint with the word "slap" written under it."
That looks hillarious and is now public property, I need to see it. - dsmx, on 05/21/2008, -1/+23The RIAA actually have some merit to their cases whether you like it or not whereas Jack Thompson seems to be on a personal vendetta against any game made by rockstar and has no merit in his cases ever.
- hadak, on 05/21/2008, -3/+22Don't ***** with gamers, *****.
- Matt2k, on 05/21/2008, -0/+19*****, my gramps used to rock out to that song! Five years! OLD GEEZER
- waalter, on 05/21/2008, -0/+15"Thompson still has time before the Supreme Court makes a final ruling on these charges. A hearing covering possible sanctions will be held on June 4; Judge Tunis' final report is not due until early September."
Well that sucks! Now we have to deal with him kicking and screaming for 3 more months. - Lazydriver, on 05/21/2008, -2/+17Cause they're rich from all the lawsuits. Seriously.
JT's a raving lunatic that nobody likes, but the RIAA's got the backing of the paranoid rich.... HOW ARE THEY GONNA MAKE MONEY?!!! OMG NO SUCH THING AS THEATERS!!! OMG NO SUCH THING AS CONCERTS!!! OMG NO SUCH THINGS AS RAKING IN 50% OF THE CASH WHEN IT COMES TO SELLING BAND MERCHANDISE!!!
Besides, people who like the pirated ***** actually like and tend to buy them, I know a *lot* of pirates, and, they do. They don't buy mediocre product. They see it as a donation, which is as it should be.
But you already agreed. - moxley, on 05/21/2008, -0/+14Just make sure to cap her afterward so you can get your money back; you're going to need it if you're disbarred.
- Zippo, on 05/21/2008, -0/+14I personally cannot wait for Jack Thompson to be finally shut up and never heard from again.
Well, to be fair, he'll never shut up... but at least after this he won't be able to throw around ***** lawsuits and legal threats. - alexforcefive, on 05/21/2008, -0/+13Please, like he won't just go straight from being "lawyer jack thompson" to "media personality jack thompson".
He can't be stopped just by losing his job :( - johnnysaucepn, on 05/21/2008, -2/+14Hogwash! Hogwash, I say!

- blanktarget, on 05/21/2008, -1/+13wtf jack: Thompson created a picture book in reaction to "the court's inability to comprehend" what he was saying. The book contained pictures of swastikas, a copied dollar bill, monkeys, and, in a surreal touch, a handprint with the word "slap" written under it. That's leaving out the cartoon squirrels. Earlier this year, Thompson asked why another gaming writer doesn't "just molest children directly rather than through Rockstar. It would be more personal that way."
The guy obviously has gone off the deep end here. - magus_melchior, on 05/21/2008, -1/+12Maybe Jack forgot that Satan knows the Bible, too. Maybe he also forgot to keep his tongue (and by extension, his fingers at the keyboard) in check-- after all, the only thing more powerful than a nuke is the command to launch it. By using his claim of faith to harass and denigrate, he has done more to damage the cause of all Christians. Surely there was a greater way to demonstrate one's faith, like... Oh, I don't know, provide legal counsel for those who are broke?
- ramallama, on 05/21/2008, -6/+17Boot was the 'something extra' thrown in a horse trade in the old west. "I will trade my horse for yours and throw in $50 boot". It was the sign of a good horse trader if you could always get 'boot'.
- aladrin, on 05/21/2008, -0/+10No, the judge 'recommended' that he was guilty. There's a difference.
- sleepwalkers, on 05/21/2008, -0/+10I dunno, he can't make a living like he used to doing two minute segments on Fox News.
- reuscel, on 05/21/2008, -1/+10Let's not get greedy.
- sleepwalkers, on 05/21/2008, -0/+9If you're going to make a claim like that, you at *least* need to provide maybe one reason as to why.
- inactive, on 05/21/2008, -0/+9not true, when a lawyer ***** you he's still dressed
- EnderMB, on 05/21/2008, -0/+8It's not the fact that he's constantly been at the throats of gamers and publishers, but how he's gone about it. A lawyer should never get too personally invested in something of this magnitude, and for a lawyer to do the things he's done would simply not stand for anyone else. Imagine if you were charged for assault and the victims lawyer was ringing you every day to tell you that you're evil? It simply wouldn't stand, and this is why he'll lose his license. His conduct has left him without a leg to stand on.
Still, I think it'll leave him with a good opportunity to move into academia. In doing so he can breed hundreds of new Jack Thompson's for the future generation of games. - pox05, on 05/21/2008, -0/+8",,,,where we sell all sorts of violent video games."
- richashby, on 05/21/2008, -0/+8Don't forget the Illuminati and lizard people.
