- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -39/+11You guys are such drama queens.
Sony's not -bullying-, they're just refusing to give any more INSIDE information to a blog; something that should be considered a privilege, not a right.- Reponere, on 10/12/2007, -6/+31But Kotaku is a well established blog, and for Sony to open their mouths in the first place was dumb on their part. Just go with Microsoft's "We do not comment on rumor or speculation" policy.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Hmm...good job Sony.
Would they be so concerned about this rumor if it WASN'T true? Good job on confirming a rumor by overreacting.
And on another note...it seems like Sony is heavily borrowing from both of their competitors. They're taking the achievement idea and the "customizable" avatar idea from the 360 and Wii. - saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3Oh boy I get to put on my anti sony hat and post fanboy comments, all while fingering my arsehole!
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Sony's been on a roll lately...
*Sony waving gun around*
*BANG* Ouch my foot
*Sony waves gun some more*
*BANG* Ouch my foot
*Still waving gun*
*BANG* Ouch my foot
Don't give them a knife, they'll cut their nose off... - gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2All these Anti-Sony post are becoming more pathetic by the dozen
I don't know what's worse...Sony Fanboys or those obsessed with Anti-Sony - MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Nobi-wan
In defence of Sony, they've been discussing the addition of social elements for quite a while now. I'm pretty sure the 360 and the Wii were both HUGE inspirations for this new idea, but we'll never know, and it's retarded to even bother speculating. Although I do agree with you; it does seem like a rip-off. I predict that after their GDC keynote, the front page will be flooded with articles detailing just how much of a rip-off it is. I'm not trying to troll, but we all know how gaming journalism works; they'll paint it in that light regardless of what anyone says.
It sounds like it's a good idea, if implemented correctly. Something tells me that even if this new feature is good, it will go partially ignored outside of the PS3-owner circle. Xbox achievements and Nintendo Miis are already well established in both the gaming community and the mainstream. Sony's going to have to do something extremely awesome if they hope to measure up against Xbox achievements and Miis.
Being honest. - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"They're taking the achievement idea and the "customizable" avatar idea from the 360 and Wii."
Achievements and customizable avatars have been around long before the 360 and Wii were released. - Krymore, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I seriously don't understand what's with all the people kissing Sony's ass, they're one of the most anti-consumer companies I know of. What other company installs ***** rootkits on music CDs? Everyone wants to jump on the playstation bandwagon, yet the only thing playstation is known for is other people's work. The playstation brand hasn't been responsible for a unique or innovative idea in their entire history and the only games it's known for are 3rd party. The playstion brand has absolutely nothing unique about it besides sales figures for one generation.
- xTRUMANx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2@krymore
What in the hell are you talking about? Who's kissing Sony's ass? Nobody is. You must be new to digg. Majority here don't like Sony (not me specifically, I don't see myself a fanboy of any type). Hasn't been responsible for gaming innovation? Well, that's a matter of opinion which I won't bother to discuss because it's just YOUR opinion. As for good Sony developed games, how about God of War, Gran Turismo, Jak and Daxter (if I'm not mistaken, Sony bought Naughty Dog way back). Let's not forget all the exclusives, and I mean exclusives like Final Fantasy series on the PS2 the Rachet and Clank series. Your post just bleeds fanboyism. And don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing all consoles, but you know what I am a fanboy of: games not consoles.
Perhaps they didn't want it printed not because it would confirm rumors, more like not wanting people expectations to get too high. Not that makes the situation any better. - Krymore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Final Fantasy isn't exclusive, and if I were a fanboy, I'd need to actually be fanatically obsessed over one of the consoles, which I'm not. I just don't understand how people can still keep buying Sony's garbage after all the ***** they pull. I mean it's to the point where it's expected now. Sony can openly and directly lie to the face of consumers, and they just take it and act like Sony's still some great company that can do no wrong. Back in the day Sony was a name you looked to for quality, now it's just a guarantee that you'll be paying extra for products the same quality as some Wal-Mart brand PoS.
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2krymore, it's easy. Be a gamer and not an emotional little girl.
You guys get your panties in a wad over every ***** little thing. If nothing else I want a PS3 just to distance myself from the constant bitching and whining.
It's not "kissing-ass" if you're looking at a situation rationally and logically. Try it out, you'll find your time on the 'net a lot less intense and stressful.
lol, but kudos on the name; couldn't have made my point any easier. - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"They're taking the achievement idea and the "customizable" avatar idea from the 360 and Wii."
The wat it is described reminds me of the pirates den in FFXII more than anything. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ distrbnce
You want to buy a PS3 to distance yourself from the whining and bitching? How does that make sense when your PS3 "fanboys" consist of kids like this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wG4aH14ZqfI
Seems that some Sony kids are just as bad as any on every other console. I'm no fanboy of any one system. It's retarded and doesn't make sense. I have a PS2, a DS, a PSP, and a 360 but am I blindly following one? No, I just play the one that has the games I like. If the PS3 was cheaper and had some games I like then I'd buy one. I get more for my money with the 360.
- Kinser, on 10/12/2007, -10/+16It's as I said in gizmodo's responce. It's sony's loss, Kotaku was free press for when they actually did do something good.
More proof sony is a scared little child with a broken toy that they want no one to know they broke.- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5I hope you caught my drama queen comment.
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33this just in
http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/sony-and-kotaku-makeup-240922.php um ya.- Flummoxer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Ahh, that's no fun. :(
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8In other words, Sony quickly realized that this totally backfired and instead of dropping the hammer on a blog, they actually dropped in on themselves.
Notice that it was Sony who came back to Kotaku and not the other way around. And not only that, but it was an actual phone call and not emails like before. - LinuxEater, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3They probably would have got their news from elsewhere anyway.
- MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4If I didn't know better, I would guess that Sony was attempting some new form of experimental marketing. I'm seriously being honest...how could you be so retarded as to believe that this wouldn't backfire?
By calling Kotaku out like that, they confirmed the rumor to be true. - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I can't wait for the first news from the GDC!
"Sony's Dave Karraker kills a Kotaku blogger during an interview."
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8i think everyone is overreacting
there is an old saying: don't bite the hand that feeds- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Yes, Sony bit the hand that was feeding them.
And now Sony has come crawling back and is carefully trying to bandage the Kotaku hand and make things nice again so that they can continue to be fed.
The damage is done though. Kotaku's hand is scarred now and visible for all to see. - aggies11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Anyone else disturbed by all the digging down of reasonable "negative" reactions to Sony's actions? Usually digg is pretty anti-sony (whether deserved or not), and to see a quick flip flop in the other direction, where it's actually warranted, is a bit strange. I'd almost start to wonder exactly who is doing the negative digging?
Aggies
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Yes, Sony bit the hand that was feeding them.
- Twist05, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Playstation Home? Well, it's confirmed at any rate. Sony's reaction pretty much proved that.
A 3d house seems like a fun idea, where it not for the fact that they copied it's aspects off Microsoft and Nintendo. But then again this does seem kinda a fun idea. As long as I can customise the house. And NOT be charged for it, of course. And design my own avatar.
I don't own a PS3, I don't like it, but this could be kinda fun. Let's see how they work it.- marvin69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How long is it going to take to get developers to put it into games? I say mid 2008 for any non-first party games.
- seneyr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Eh. Of the bigger game blogs out there, Kotaku has a shaky history anyways. On the one hand, they get credit for standing up to Sony. On the other hand, it doesn't surprise me that they'd be the one to do so. Kotaku thrives on rumor-mongering and oddities in gaming culture. Not to mention the occassional streak of unprofessionalism at times.
Regardless, this is still a black mark on Sony's book regardless of who they did this to. For a company that is having a serious issue with it's reputation, they're not doing a whole lot to restore consumer "good faith". - 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4How about this...
Everybody ignore Sony! When they call, hang up. When they write, toss it in the trash. When they invite people for a press conference, nobody show up but the crickets. Don't have anything to do with the name Sony. I have since they decided rootkits are good for you and the world is just fine.- Karmalary, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6I started boycotting Sony the day I removed a rootkit from a friend computer.
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Sony's PR dept is just *****... they have to be amateurs. They are immature, reactive, and dragging down this giant company at the speed of sound.
As far as Sony should be concerned, any rumour is a good rumour-- rumours mean they are gaining mind share.... what they need to avoid is the actual news of the company, especially since they are doing so poorly.
They should be open, and honest... they've taken a massive beating from marching to the old drum and acting the same they were when they were on top-- they have to face a cynical and skeptical consumer base and media with the utmost honesty, even with their own failures.
And lastly they need to learn from their mistakes.
So to Sony, fire the ***** in charge of PR and hire me.- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3You are living in a fantasy land.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4What a load of ***** *****
Sony is not bullying anyone, they gave a formal and simple request to not put out the article - Mocib, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Ah, Kotaku and Joystiq... without those two sites the web would be a much better place.
- Zoglog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Indeed Mocib. When the hell did stupid blogs become "news platforms" these douches are just full of themselves.
- greengt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's my favorite post from the joystiq comments.
"Sony is like the regime about to be toppled, trying to maintain its grasp on power."
