- jgubbe, on 01/06/2009, -2/+21Does everything in Japan have to be smaller?
- MrsButtersworth, on 01/07/2009, -1/+19You said shrinkage.
- CivicTV, on 08/14/2009, -6/+18We cannot achieve so much with such small penis, but you American wow, penis so big, so big penis!
- Shirk, on 01/07/2009, -0/+11So the "huge reason why" the Japanese game market IN JAPAN is shrinking is because they show "absolute favoritism to the Japanese market" and half ass the western markets?
Ummmm... lol wut - Testiculese, on 01/07/2009, -0/+8Screw the article, I just Dugg it for the image.
- yensed, on 01/07/2009, -2/+9Well, 2008 was the coldest year on record for Japan.
- CrimsonBlur, on 01/07/2009, -1/+8Dugg for Seinfeld reference. Best. Thumbnail. Ever.
Anyway, it's weird that the Japanese game market was smaller in 2008 considering the extreme popularity of the Wii and PS3 over there... perhaps the lack of quality exclusives on those platforms is a factor, I'm not sure (to thwart the fanboys, I'm a PS3 owner). The game market here really hasn't been affected much even though our economy is such crap right now. - MeatMountain, on 01/07/2009, -0/+6QUIET GAIJIN SCUM
YOU CANNOT APPRECIATE THE SUBTLE INTRICACIES OF JAPANESE GAMES
ONLY WE CAN PROPERLY ENJOY STORIES ABOUT GIRLS IN ROBOT SUITS HAVING SEX WITH TENTACLE MONSTERS - Elranzer, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4"There's a ***** void of jrpg's though"
Understatement of the whole generation. I mean, it's sad when the Xbox 360 is the system that has the most J-RPGs of any of the current consoles.
Actually, they're still making new JRPGs, they're just appearing on the Nintendo DS and PlayStation2. - Elranzer, on 01/07/2009, -0/+4Sales seem to indicate that everyone is still favoring the PS2 over the current-gen systems. And with good reason. The majority of the good games are still there.
I just recently picked up Persona 4. Wii/PS3/360 are gonna collect dust for a while. - quaffapint, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3It shrinks?
- LenBaird, on 01/07/2009, -1/+4LOL me too. I am browsing for Japanese shrinkage comments.
- saris, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3Dugg for Costanza.

- kaijunexus, on 01/07/2009, -2/+5Very first thing I thought of.
- emildorbell, on 01/07/2009, -0/+3There's no lack of quality exclusives (resistance, motorstorm, wipeout, mgs4, ratchet, little big planet) on the ps3. There's a ***** void of jrpg's though, so I guess you could be right :)
- ontain, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2the PS3 is selling at a slower rate than the Gamecube during it's first years. I don't think that really qualifies the ps3 as extremely popular.
- raydeen, on 01/07/2009, -1/+3What, there are other games besides WoW, Starcraft and Diablo? I don't believe it.
- SHUUTOBI, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2I guess they just had some games come out with great replay value. :P
- ClevelandBrown, on 01/07/2009, -0/+2"Like a frightened turtle..."
- carlosos, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1I'm a little surprised that the PSP sold better than the Wii.in Japan. Do Japanese do less gaming at home and more somewhere outside? I personally would buy a PSP over a Wii too but I thought I would be an exception.
- thebesian, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1It's hard to find my favorite games in ps3.
- GuacamoleSan, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1incoming shrinkage joke prepare for impact
- solid12345, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1It is nice to us yanks taking back the videogame market for a change. The Japanese developers have ***** on us for years, the best example being when an American developer was developing a Castlevania title for Dreamcast that was actually looking to be the first ever decent 3d Castlevania so Konami pulled the plug on it to save face over a US company one-upping them after their failures on the Nintendo 64.
- Smooph, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1That's what she said...
- MrsButtersworth, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1Ginormous, gargantuan, bulbous penis!

I'm Lonely... - mface, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1japanese, shrinkage, cannot divide by zero
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -1/+2That's because there's no good games in Japan. All the new games are *****
- hyperden, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1agree
- Dotcommer, on 01/07/2009, -0/+1eet is.. So smoal.... So smoal.
- imerik, on 01/07/2009, -1/+1Japanese shrinkage.
- Jakeman21co, on 01/07/2009, -1/+1Dugg for sexual innuendo in title
- scamper22, on 01/07/2009, -1/+0inverted?
- MousouMachine, on 01/08/2009, -0/+0agreed, games these days are mostly the same shoot the enemy the hell up with some gimmick or another thrown in. and games that try to "innovate" these days are only seen largely as blunders by the public. until someone comes up with an addictive, fun game (preferably multi-platform though games can do much better single-platform) that brings new ideas to the table. I don't agree too much with the westernization of video games that's happening recently because it's making good foreign games feel as though they have the need to change the way they develop their stuff and that leave a lot of confused games.
- m0llusk, on 01/07/2009, -1/+1This is because most new games are the same old crap all over again. Deliver something really new and exciting and the results will probably be better.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -3/+2Penis!
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -2/+1there have been so many games coming out of Europe now this is not surprising
- Kinser, on 01/07/2009, -2/+1I would think it has to do with the ps3.
And it not being quite the system it should be. :)
Time to go multiplatform japan! - ShuttleXpC, on 01/07/2009, -6/+4Here is a huge reason why:
Japanese game companies release half assed versions of their games here, showing absolute favoritism to the Japanese market, then they ask questions like, "Why doesn't the Western market like us" Well idiot, here is why.
SquareEnix, Sega, Capcom and tons of other Japanese companies really stick it to the western market in terms of quality. We get items like Phantasy Star Universe, Monster Hunter in crap quality (Slow updates, no seperate versions of the game, poor packaging, and various other things) other companies like SquareEnix show their favoritism on game like FFXI with how they totally ignored the western market for the game's first 4 years of being out. They finally realized the US was the majority of their new players and FINALLY started to pay attention to us.
All of those companies and nearly all of the rest of the Japanese game companies need to realize that the western market doesn't like to be treated like ***** and then expected to shell out money for a crappy quality item. - inactive, on 01/05/2009, -7/+5I would have to think that the low birth rate is having an effect. A lot of adults drop gaming so its up to the kiddies to pick up the pace. Also, Japanese devs seem to embrace the PS2 over this generation of consoles.
- ArbitraryTask, on 01/07/2009, -3/+0maybe it took too much adderal
- mitch37, on 01/07/2009, -6/+1Penis joke in 3... 2... 1...
