- Starseed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Digg for the interesting statistics.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26PS3 got owned.
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19This is the only statistic that confuses me:
Female Students:
50%: neither
37.5%: PS3
12.5%: Wii
I would think the Wii would win there if anywhere. Strange. - krum0786, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13What the ***** did you just say?
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14What article did you read? Business women and housewives picked the wii over the ps3 by far. The ps3 beat out the wii in the female student poll.
Actually, that's kind of unusual because (in American dorms, at least) all the ladies seem to love interactive games like DDR and Donkey Konga over standard fps/sports/fighting games. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12You can't compare a game console to a computer, that's an unfair match.
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Why wouldn't ANYONE not want to play Mario Tennis over Halo3 or MGS4? Mario Tennis is flat-out fun.
- betterth, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19You're an idiot. No offense, but you're an idiot. The Digg algorithm took two years to program.
It's more than just diggs. It most likely has something to do with diggs per minute or I'd even hazard a guess in saying that it has a lot to with the diggers score. Like, a story needs 1,000 points to hit the front page. Having not posted any highly digged articles, I don't count for much. Another user, being a successful poster, has a score of 200+. You can see score when users are listed. Perhaps this score is another factor in how fast it hits the front page.
It also probably depends on the amount of dugg downs it recieves.
I - Pharaoh777, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Japanese female students prefer PS3... so I prefer PS3.
- RazorElite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Totally owned. So if Japan isn't too big on the PS3, North America is loosing interest, what's left? Europe? So sad. What's gonna happen to the mighty Sony (Playstation).
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I don't think Europe will save them either. Polls from Europe are showing a much larger percentage interested in the Wii than the PS3. But we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.
- TrainwreckX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Why the hell do people post this ***** as the first post every time? How is it weird if you see it happen every week? Stop whinning, it is a good story, it is here for some reason or another.
- ThrasherC, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Wo-men? What are these Wo-men? Where can I find one? Oh well...at least I'll be getting a Wii.
- MicrowavedH2o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I thought it was interesting to see the different women's groups and their breakdown. The Mom's preferred the Wii which is expected, but the female students, who I thought would be more stingy or less interested, largely voted for the PS3.
Overall its interesting to see Japan's take on the systems, without the Xbox being considered. - WDot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Unfortunately, your point is weakened by the fact that you assume our sexual preferences and favorite body part fondling practices without sufficient knowledge of who we are.
- lordmetroid, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11ohh I missread housewives... sorry... Many apologies
- Tanpreet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i hardly ever trust polls. especially when u look at the polls during election time. it seems like one party's gonna win, but then the other does. so i say we just wait until all 3 systems are out, and then lets compare.
- MicrowavedH2o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I agree completely... call him an idiot. Of course its not diggs or comments, its obviously more than that. I hate people that pull up pages and just comment "dupe - no digg" or "how did this get on the front page?" Well its on the front page, there's nothing you can do about it (except bury if you want...)-- either digg and/or read the article if you are interested or just skip over it. There's nothing you can do to change that, so get over yourself.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6female statistics goes to show that girls (in that population that was polled) aren't really gamers, despite everything the media is trying to portray (as being 50% or something of the market). they just picked PS3 so heavily because they are familiar with the brand, not because they have any actual interest in the difference or can tell what the difference is. this is kind of disappointing.
- AmazingAndrex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6That, and he can't spell for his life.
- TheMysteryCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm torn.
On one hand, it's an interesting article with some neat information. On the other, you've got a Duke profile icon.
Ah, eff it. *digg* - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5oh, please don't dare bring up any sort of 'lol videgoames are sexist' or anything, the site [magazine] actually taking a poll for women, and including 3 demographics is suprising, how many others do that ? i think this is the first i've seen in a long time.
oh, and who mostly plays videogames.. i'll dare say males, so it's only logical to hold the opinion/thoughts of your main target group above other niche ones. - kent1146, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Agree with the PS3 being an "amalgam of mistakes".
- Feature overload
- Ridiculous launch price
- Strength in "licenses"... to me, this translates to sequal fatigue.
I find it surprising that when touting the PS3's strength in "licenses", that it did not mention Nintendo's first-party properties in Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc. To me, Mario/Zelda/Metroid > movie-based-game any day. - FrozenOrb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I used to be a console-freak, but now I've never played an Xbox, PS2, Xbox 360 (or Saturn or Dreamcast) ever. That being said even I'm contemplating getting a Wii. It's those controllers I guess. That and I'm liking the overall vibe it's receiving.
- jdavid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5If movies like pirates of the caribean and titanic have anything to say, its that if you get the female audiance, you will get significantly more revenue
- TheBigBoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dont mind him, he's french.
- Duttyride, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have no idea what you are talking about. Also, I am not convinced that you know what you are talking about. Is English your native language?
- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Actually you might ... being that cars, motorcycles and scooters are similar objects with differing methods of achieving what they are meant to do and with different capabilities in terms of cargo/passenger capacity and levels of speed.
But I'm sure that similarity is lost on you - you probably meant to compare them soley on some criteria you alone think is important such as computing power and leading to the 'battle' already being won in your mind.
fact is they are both game machines and they will both achieve this goal (playing games) in different ways. Is one better? Maybe - depends on what you want/need it for. Just like a car a scooter or a harley.
Try to maintain some objectivity here - bias is showing. - eradicator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why do we need a "casual version" of a videogame magazine?
- WDot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hypodermia: That's not necessarily the case. Many people, male or female, when asked their opinion on an issue for a poll, may pick one or another based more out of just needing to say SOMETHING, rather than saying "Don't know" or something like that. People want to show they are keeping up with the issues, even though they might not have a good grasp on the subject. And let's face it, Sony has had a lot of influence in Japan last generation, so it's pretty much a household name.
What if you asked guys here what you think is a better brand of lipstick (just for an example.) How should they know? They'll probably pick the most recognizable choice, not because they're "stupid" necessarily, but more because they feel they need to say SOMETHING.
Remember that old survey where they went around and asked couples how big the ladies' uvulas were when they were pregnant? There were all kinds of wacky responses because they didn't know what a uvula was per se, they just know it sounded sort of like a women's reproductive organ because ovary, vagina, and uvula all sound like they fit together. Were these people stupid? Not necessarily, they just didn't know what a uvula was, but were put on the spot and felt like they needed to say something.
In short, stop assuming sexism. It's not healthy. - PopeOfDope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think the sample sizes aren't particularly large enough to predict any future trends.
- sremick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I predict a special "Johnny Depp" edition of the Wii.
- technocrati, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's funny how xbox360 wasn't even part of the equation at all!
once again, Japan continues to IGNORE the xbox360.
microsoft must be freaking mad right now... - xbxrx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4indeed i was confused to by that statistic as well. the housewive didnt surprise me, moms can get into games on the Wii I'd say.
- wulfflower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@hypodermia
I don't understand what you're freaking out about. He just didn't get why the statistics were like that. He wasn't saying that women are to stupid to know any better. - betterth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@iluvatar
point set and match.
:( Point taken. lol - ChicagoDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1developers are gonna totally love that *****.... really... they wont get fed up, no....never.
- koko775, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The percentages were interesting, but I question it. Besides the fact that the guy doesn't even have a clue how much 80,000 yen are (700 dollars, no 260), it looked like there were only eight participants for the Female Student survey (50%, 37.5%, and 12.5% are 1/2, 3/8, and 1/8, respectively).
Still, it doesn't take a whole lot to see that the PS3 is an amalgam of mistakes whereas the Wii is attempting an innovative approach... - GT35R, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How can it look bad for the PS3 when it hasnt been released yet? All these bs speculations mean nothing. Wait till it comes out then you can say all you want.
- hypodermia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you unmitigated moron. since we're girls, we're too stupid even to realize the choice we're making ?
- MicrowavedH2o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha... 600 diggs now sucker.
- OwdenBowden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is a ***** Joke People! Take the Stick Out Of Your Ass!
- MicrowavedH2o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks!
...lemme guess... you are a UNC fan... (or Kentucky, Wake Forest, etc.) - ChicagoDS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13rd party games on ps3? um right.... because it's clearly the easiest system to develop for.
- phej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You've just won the thread.
- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1FTA - "
Others think the Wii will become the dominant console in Japan, with the PS3 seeing overseas dominance (the common belief is that foreigners are so fond of Sony and the PlayStation brand that they would buy the PS3 whatever the price tag)."
Pffft. I think it's the other way around. - betterth, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I don't understand why? It's kind of steriotypical to say "Since they're girls they'll obviously prefer non-traditional gaming styles. Why wouldn't a girl love Mario Tennis over Halo 3 or MGS4?"
Most gaming girls I know prefer games like Halo, MGS and CounterStrike over the wii's new gameplay style. - wulfflower, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maybe it was chosen by the women who didn't really game at all?
- GT35R, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5"you unmitigated moron. since we're girls, we're too stupid even to realize the choice we're making ?"
Yes - bpwwhirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I think he was referring to liscenses such as Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, etc.
And it could be argued that all three of those franchises eventually worked their way onto Xbox/Cube, but it took years to do so. -
