- KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+55He's suing...to stop a lawsuit...that is striving to keep him from suing?
o.O - LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+48Well maybe if his lawsuits were based on facts instead of nonsense, people might just take him seriously.
Oblivion does not have hidden content - if you use a mod, that's your own damn business. Technically, it's like suing Microsoft because they didn't tell people IE could be used to view porn. - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+28Yeah, sounds more like a counter-counter-suit to me.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28IE can be used to view porn!?!?! Those ***** at Mozilla told me only FireFox with the Wank extension could do that!!!
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26"Thompson claims this is a violation of his First Amendment right"
Irony just got updated in the dictionary. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27@ Wild
You gave it a name? - wild, on 10/12/2007, -9/+32Jack Thompson reminds me of my harry ass.
- ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19the stunts pulled by this wackjob never cease to amaze me. they are "pre" suing him to keep him from suing them.....and he still sues them???? i hope they can use this to collect when jackass thompson gets laughed outa court.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"Technically, it's like suing Microsoft because they didn't tell people IE could be used to view porn."
Or suing a university for teaching physics, thus allowing for the construction of a Nuclear weapon, which could be used for terrorism...
wait, how could we link domestic terrorism to Microsoft corp? - j0150n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I swear Jack's father was a game developer who molested him as a child.
- Ricapar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17IE can't be used to view porn. It'll get infected with more crap than STDs you'd get from doing every prostitute in the city.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Hahahahahahaha product of today's modern education!
- kerrybreyette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Oh, thank goodness you pointed that out! I almost dugg a story that made it to the front page instead of a dupe that went nowhere, did nothing.
Thank you, anonymous tipster! - ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Oblivion is no doubt the worst offender. It has turned me into a sword wielding, magic using, Daedra killing psychopath. I just hope the law doesn't find out about all the "Goblins" I've murdered.
- scispaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Only the really creepy reference to necrophilia by that one NPC.
- ryanscott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12what-a-douche.
- HackLawyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12He's not a prosecutor.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10didn't you know, his first amendment rights are more important that a game developer's first amendment rights
- krogothwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9He's suing Take-Two for Oblivion? They just published it....Bethesda were the designers.....Oh right I get it, Take Two being the evil video gaming corporation that is forcing the developers of games they publish to add horrible hidden evil content to thus convert our little kids even further into crime and debauchery thus bringing about the end of civilization as we know it, bringing about the reign of anarchy that shall send all into acts of grotesque violence, random acts of kinky evil sex only for pleasure and the torturing of small kittens, eating nothing but raw meat and bringing fear to the hearts and minds of innocent law-abiding citizens who only wish to live in peace...
hey, that sounds like a good video game...where can I buy it? - gtawh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It seems like Jack has played so much of Rockstar's Table Tennis that he feels compelled to sue and counter-sue back and forth. That game literally trained him to do this.
- ISurfTooMuch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Nope, not a prosecutor. Just a mentally ill psychopath with delusions of grandeur. A lying, conniving piece of subhuman slime who, through a gross clerical error, was awarded a J.D. A real ***** who uses threats and intimidation to get his way, knowing full well that he has no legal leg to stand on. Basically, a useless drain on the planet's resources who serves absolutely no useful purpose except to illustrate the depravity to which one can sink.
- Frozo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8OK, what was so over the top in Oblivion that it was singled out? Seriously, what was the charge there? I played through the entire game and found nothing out of the norm.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Seriously, doesn't there exist any mechanism for disbarring a rogue prosecutor? Surely prosecutors must have gone psychotic, or senile, or had personal vendettas against innocent people, before? And surely there is some way of stopping them?
The man is ***** crazy. He thinks god has commanded him to clean up in the imaginary hive of villainy and scum which is computer gaming. And the only avenue for his victims is to keep him busy? I mean, wtf? - Juroujin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8There is a nude skin that was never used in the game but it was discovered (the skin is still in there), thus changing Oblivion's ESRB rating from Teen to Mature.
lol
seriously though.. i'm pretty sure thats what happened - JagoX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Soooo...he's suing Take2 to stop a lawsuit and to counter-sue them for stuff that he isn't really sure even exists.
WOW...
...just WOW. - r3neGaDe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The article posted missed most of the entertaining parts of JT's suit. I'll summarize here, but the link to GameSpot (at the bottom of the article) is really the best.
The filing speaks of a massive conspiracy crafted by Take-Two with the help of the ESA as well as multiple gaming publications like GamePolitics, Kotaku, Joystiq, etc.
Also, here's a link to the full 37 page filing [via GamePolitics.com]: http://www.gamepolitics.com/images/legal/FL-T2-JT-counter.pdf - cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4is anyone really surprised?
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm suing you to prevent you from suing me for suing you as a result of the fact that you sued me for me suing you in order to block the sale of your next video game.
- dritchie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Inviting somebody to kill him isn't particular big or clever at the best of times; moreso here as it's also playing right into his sharky hands.
- TheBlackNinja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So, where can we get those shirts?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Take-two should give him a cool hundred grand for all the extra press hes given them on the bully game.
that psycho is probably one of the best people to have around so games that might be a footnote can get some real sales.
Hell i bought Bully just to support take-two - rdoger6424, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ah, crap! Now there's two nutjobs obsessed with developers!
(Explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMU0tzLwhbE ) - grifmcrenolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They have equal rights, but lawyers are more equal than the rest of us.
- amoirae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3kerrybreyett: Now THAT'S quality sarcasm. The sad poseurs on here who use sarcasm like a sledgehammer rather than a scalpel can take lessons.
- theunderground5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I really have no idea when this guy will just give up, he's always either being sued or suing somebody else.and i for one am well SICK OF HIS STUPID *****!!!!
- HsoKinees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2heh.. madless like this.. only in America :D
btw, i read on Digg not too long ago that this ***** was apparently visiting the UK? did anything come of that? i'm genuinely interested :D - WoWii, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Someone plz put a bullet in this mans brain.
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A redress of grievances? It makes more sense to me to sue the RIAA for public indecency. Their public acts of indecent conduct towards others have turned me off music quite a bit, and it probably has done the same to others. Who wants to do something even legitimately when there's so much noise about it being prosecuted for doing it illegally. Who would want to drive as much if you heard about people getting pulled over for speeding every single day?
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love it that JT is gonna get his ass handed to him...
The only sad part is he is a ***** lawyer himself, so he has no lawyer fees.
He should be made to pay up millions to Take-Two for lost revenue. - Plinkotic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Jack Thompson needs to walk out of a building, and as he enters his vehicle there should be a lovely plume as his eyebrows, gray matter and teeth spray all over the dash and driver. Oh well. No more amateur assassins in this age. Just daydreaming, I spose.
Can we double/no backsies/infinito+1 Sue him for being able to moderately read and write? - jonapete2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This guy needs to get a life. Seriously, who pays for all the crazy lawsuits that he files. He never wins them.
- AnotherBrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's from the PennyArcade collection at ThinkGeek.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/pennyarcade/7a15/ - chrislee149, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Tomorrow's headline:
"Jack Thompson: Social networking website invites users to commit murder" - kanadani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm wondering if he's like a Peter Pan Fairy...the ones that will live if only the children believe in them (Clap to save Tinkerbell)...only if we keep on paying attention to his antics he'll continue to sue.
If we ignored him do you think he'd fade away? - Frozo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1scispaz,
Good call! I totally forgot about that one. Of course, it made me laugh... no wait. It made me want to dig up graves and screw corpses. My bad! - an0nym0us, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He parried it! musta rolled a hard six!
- drum2dadrum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.mugshots.com/Criminal/Kidnappings/Jack+Thompson.htm
And now he is a kidnapper. ;) - darkmane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@jonapete
Actually he wins all of them, just not in the courtroom. He gets his name out there, gains credibility with people like James Dobson and many other "pro-family" organizations, thus he gets speaking engagements and honorariums, etc.
His intent is to keep being a visible thorn in the side of "liberal/immoral entertainment" until we're faced with another socially conservative congress and president, then try and get the laws passed. Since the US Supreme court has shifted towards the "conservative" side in the past 8 years, it is less likely that these laws will be struck down and then we'll be in a real pickle.
Jack Thompson is smarter than many people give him credit for and playing an entirely different game from what most people thing he is. - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lord knows why he's naming Oblivion in this counter-suit, considering that was Bethesda...
- rip747, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jack Thompson..... isn't that the GGG guy????
