- l0k0, on 02/17/2008, -1/+93As someone who avidly plays video games and is pursuing a career in the industry myself, Jack Thompson really annoys me. His "evidence", is so consistently weak and pathetic it's blatantly obvious he is exploiting these tradgedies to further his own political agenda. He didn't even know the name of the shooter before he blamed VTech on videogames, which Cho never had or played at that time. He claimed it must've been rehearsed because the murders were done so efficiently. However, they were completely defenseless people and a majority of them were shot at point blank. Thompson shows here again that he doesn't need any evidence or facts to blame it on videogames. Again he blames it on CS, this time because the shooter was wearing black! By this logic, all goths must be heavily immersed in Counter-Strike. Even more pathetically, the player models in CS: Source have little to no black attire. The kevlars are black and so is some of the clothing on the T side, but unless he installed skins, assuming he even had CS, than this wouldn't bear much of any resemblance to any of the player models. CS isn't realistic much at all either. Players bunny hop around every corner. You see sprays everywhere you look, which completely kill any immersion, as if the pre teen mic spam didn't do this already. Grenades can go off right at players feet without killing them. The list goes on and on. It just seems he just picked the most popular online game because it had the greatest chance of being player at one time or another by the shooter. I personally can't wait until we have people in Congress and practicing law who grew up with videogames and actually understand them.

I've been playing FPS (first person shooters) since the first Quake was released for Win95. If this guy's argument had any merit to it, about 50% - 60% of the developed nations would have been killed off by gamers by now.
The people that commit these crimes were on the edge. It was only a matter of time before they snapped. I wonder what games Jack the ripper was playing, and all the other mass murderers before video games were invented???

As if these events weren't bad enough he has to go injecting himself into the middle of the tragedy and add baseless accusations against a video games, which really only works to divert people's attention to determining the real cause of school shootings.
At least Kotaku calls him on his *****, but it's unfortunate that it is not as accessed by the same people as the network broadcast that originally spread his lies.
