Video Games don't kill people.
People like you do, people who have no clue what is going on in the world and only care about themselves
I hope Gawker counter sues. - ElbridgeGerry, on 10/12/2007, -7/+104…………….._,-~'¯ ; ; ; ; ;',----,……………………………………………………….,~'' . . . . . . . . . . __,-~~'¯

1: Mr. Thompson Harasses Kotaku a number of times. [Fails]
2: Mr. Thompson tries to sic the FBI on them. [Fails]
3: Mr. Thompson decides he is going to sue some Judges & Kotaku/Gawker...
Doesn't look to good on Mr. Thompson's end. - SnuKs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+52Wow.. What a sore loser Jack is.
- atomant411, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42From the actual complaint:
"77. The first Kotaku blogger out of the box, responding to Mr. Crecente's tying
of the health of the video game industry and freedom as we know it to the success of The
Florida Bar against Thompson, stated in his post that "Jack [Thompson] should be shot."
78. This was followed with other posts that Thompson should be struck with a
baseball bat, shot in the face by an irate gamer, castrated and his testicles stuffed down
his throat, and the exercise of other basic "constitutional" rights to advocate violence
against an individual………………………………………………………………Not!"
I may only be in my second year of law school, but I can tell you that at least here in Texas submitting a complaint with such superfluous language as a comment like this is grounds for not only having your complaint dismissed with prejudice but also grounds for sanctions by the court for filling the court system with such garbage.
Not to mention that 90% of this complaint has absolutely nothing to do with the articles and comments on kotaku.
I can't wait to show this to my Professional Responsibility Prof.
Thompson gives honest lawyers like the future me a bad reputation before we even get out of the gate. - mykos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40Jack Thompson doesn't represent people of any particular religion.
- MechaZain, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41I'm pretty sure the only people who take Thompson seriously are gamers and extreme pop culture abolitionists...
We need to stop giving this man the attention he craves. - RoroCo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25I normally don't curse here, but this time I feel it called for. Jack Thompson... You sir are a pig *****. I say that knowing that your large ego and small brain will tell you to try and now focus your legal attention to not only bloggers, but commenters on blogs. I was taught never to fight people weaker than me- physically or mentally, but in your case, I welcome the non-challenge.
I hope you get disbarred for idiocy.
Pig *****. - HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24I was actually starting to worry that he might pull back after the recent beating he took, but he's not. Which is, paradoxically, a good thing. The more dumb ***** he pulls, the faster he'll wear out his welcome.
- riknik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Similarly:
"Since then, the New York Times has reported this past Sunday that upon driving their son to Virginia Tech, the
parents of Cho hoped that in going to college he would leave behind his immersion in
video games. The chances of that, with no parental supervision, were slim and none, and
Slim just left town."
...
wtf kind of legal document is this? - TheBobbyx, on 10/12/2007, -15/+36Ahh Jack Thompson, I'm sure religion will back you up......because you know....religion follows such a logical path of argument and has caused far less deaths than violent video games.....
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20How can this:
"Thompson is an attorney in good standing with The Florida Bar and has been
since 1977."
be in the same article as this:
"Thompson has also, along the way, managed to annoy the intolerant liberals, including the Board of Governors, who run The Florida Bar and who side with the porn-to-kids industry when it brings, through its lawyers, SLAPP (strategic litigation against public participation) Bar complaints as a "shoot the messenger" tactic by the industry to chill, infringe upon, and or harm the constitutional rights of Thompson."
Furthermore, later in the article:
"Thompson got fined by the FCC, [and The Florida Bar] asked for and got from the Florida Supreme Court an order commanding Thompson to submit to a battery of psychiatric and psychological tests by health care providers of The Bar’s own choosing to “determine if Jack Thompson’s obsession against pornography is so severe that he is disabled by it and thus unfit to practice law.” Pause.
The happy result was that Thompson is now the only officially Bar-certified sane lawyer in Florida."
If Jack Thompson truly believes, and I think he does, that he's the only sane lawyer in Florida, it all the more proves that he's a narcissist. - SigmaDraconis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19QQ more, Jack.
- danakin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20"Jack Thompson doesn't represent people of any particular religion."
...try as he may. - revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Sorry about my ignorance, but what does "QQ more" mean?
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19only a matter of time before he sues god for creating the world so that man can create video games so that a kid can learn to kill people because of them.
- andyd273, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Hey, that's not nice! He's conservative in the same way that a terrorist with a bomb strapped to his body is a conservative. Don't try to put him on our side, we don't want him either.

- venir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Don't forget this gem.
"Plaintiff could go on, citing other examples of the incredible and sustained
and unco5nstitutional(sic) headlong lurches by this Bar in pursuit of its Governors’ collective
left-wing agenda, but discovery herein will flesh them out more fully."
I think if I was submitting an official complaint like this, I would use a spell checker on it first. I guess Jack was unaware there is no "5" in "unconstitutional". This complaint is worded such that I would have thought it written by a middle school emo loser who is crying out at the world for a hug. - jcounterman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12He actually uses a NOT joke in the complaint, as well as calling Kotaku readers "knuckleheads" and insulting judges....so has this guy totally flipped? Does he expect to be taken seriously? The damn thing sounds like it was a collaboration between a lawyer and a 3rd grader in a name-calling contest.
- atomant411, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@djlosch
Unfortunately, it isn't a joke, Thompson really is this crazy, and he really thinks submitting a complaint like this is a valid use of our legal system. - asTer0id, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12how unfair is it that one idiotic clueless conservative has the power to sue and bring down sites like Kotaku which have done nothing to promote or provoke senseless killings, but have instead provided smart, informed commentary rebutting Jack's slanderous remarks about video games in a well thought out, systematic manner. I will be pissed if anything happens to Kotaku because of this frivolous lawsuit.
- DarthSupero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I don't normally digg stuff like that, but I felt it was necessary in this case.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I would die a happy man if a judge dismissed one of Jack's cases and actually said that in summing up.
- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11This is good. It brings him one step closer to his inevitable disbarment.
- jaundiced, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Ahhhh - the clock is ticking, soon this sap will be disbarred and sitting on his porch in his rocker sipping gin and screaming at the moon :)
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Must... resist... urge... to post!

- wmcduff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Sigh, much as ol' JT is off his rocker, that's not what he's saying here. He's saying that he's the only lawyer in Flordia who has been certified as sane by the board, which may or may not be true.
Ugh, I just defended Jack Thompson. I feel the need to take another shower.
Still, there's plenty of other cases of lunacy in here to make fun of! - Toloran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8His list of allegations is quite amusing:
1. Legal Jargon about the case Keller v. State Bar of California (directed at florida bar, has nothing to do with kotaku)
2. Monetary Damages due to due violation of his civil rights (directed at the florida bar, has nothing to do with kotaku)
3. The florida bar somehow violated his freedom of religion (wtf?)
4&5. He wants the attorney fees he charged himself?
6. This one is actually about kotaku/gawker media. This one asserts that he is an expert on school shootings and that kotaku shouldn't have made fun of him. It also has the ".................. not!" comment which is completely unprofessional. I think he was drunk while writing up this charge. Lots of random ranting in this section.
7. Apparently, all the defendents (florida bar, florida supreme court, and gawker media) are all in a conspiracy against him (among others unnamed, *cough*Penny Arcade*cough*). I like the pinata comment. - stuman77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"71. Besides, science has now established the long-term effect of such violent
entertainment consumption."
Can science sue him for libel? - mykos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Wow...your narrow-mindedness about people you don't agree with is astounding. I used to be like you, thinking the other side was always angry, evil, and conniving. As your perspective matures, you realize that the vast majority of both liberals and conservatives are good-hearted and reasonable people, and often find middle ground in many things. It's the bad apple hardcore partisans that make the headlines, unfortunately.
- interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6From the filing:
"76. What followed this screed by Mr. Crecente at Kotaku.com, owned and operated by Gawker Media, was a rather stunning but predictable response from the bloggers who are video game industry lemmings who are attracted like moths to a flame at Kotaku.com."
This reads more like a story on an editorial page than a legal filing to a court. Is Thompson usually this unprofessional in his interactions with the court? - krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -2/+8hey listen up... it's a joke. read the complaint: http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2007/04/Thompson%20v.%20Bar%2C%20Third%20Amended%20Complaint%2C%20April%2025%2C%202007.pdf
"11. The happy result was that Thompson is now the only officially Bar-certified
sane lawyer in Florida. The Bar’s experts found that “Thompson is a Christian acting out
his faith.” The Bar’s insurance carrier compensated Thompson for this illegal Bar
attempt to publicly pathologize his faith, which harmed Thompson greatly."
there are tons of accusations in there that are even sillier.
very funny... but i don't know if it's worth the 33 page read. - bab7880, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8***** you, Jack Thompson. ***** You.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Whoever told you that all publicity is good publicity was wrong, it's not.
- Khus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5His appearance on Hardball really revealed how quixotic and narrowly absurd he and his crusade really are. His reasoning and support for his preposterous claims kept getting called out by Chris Matthews, and instead of providing any rational response to Matthews repeated questioning of his suppositions, he could only cite other dubious cases, some that have never been associated to gaming by anyone other than sociopaths like Thompson himself. His circular reasoning and embarrassing irrationality would get failing grades in my 10th grade Composition class. He's doing a great job of exposing himself for what he really is--a lunatic with a lunatic's agenda.
- ghostlywind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I will probably get dugg down, but what is jack suing kotaku for is over the article that proved jack wrong?
Oh and jack can go ***** himself. - Matri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You know you're insane when even the fanatically religious call you a nutcase.
- yellowsnowcone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4loved the mixed metaphors. Lemmings who are attracted like moths to a flame?!?!?!
- Ethanael, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm going to have a ball presenting about this guy on Friday...
90%+ of that complaint was utter garbage and it is unfortunate that the judge isn't going to (likely) have the slightest clue as to games. I hope he/she does, but we'll see.
You can clearly tell he wrote it.
66. Thompson, as he has correctly done before in other situations (DC Beltway
Sniper, Columbus Ohio Serial Highway Shooter, Southwood Middle School Killer,
Columbine Rampage Killers, Red Lake Minnesota High School Killer, etc.) suggested
that the “V Tech” rampage killer was probably someone who rehearsed the massacre on a
violent video game as has so often been the case in similar situations. Such was the case
last year, also, at Dawson College in Montreal when Kimveer Gill, Thompson pointed
out on Fox News Channel’s April 16 interview, trained on Super Columbine Massacre
and Postal 2, two mass murder simulators.
Columbine Rampage Killers had psychological issues (Harris specifically) that have been proven by scientific research (2004). False
If I researched the others, I'm pretty sure I'd find the same thing if the psychologists had enough time to conduct their research. We can already see where VT is going. The man had psychological issues as well, very similar to Harris.
In addition, these "mass-murder" simulators. You just can't train somebody on a video game. I spent 4 years in the Marines and for the last year I was training other Marines on how to effectively use their weapons. Yes, we use specialized programs to help facilitate training, but in no way do they even compare to something like a First Person Shooter game you would see today. I would have people train all hours of the day for a week and still go out with a real weapon and shoot incredibly poor, and obviously they needed to shoot well, otherwise they wouldn't get a promotion. Also, in a case like VT, the man shot 170+ rounds and a whole lot of them were from point-blank range.
71. Besides, science has now established the long-term effect of such violent entertainment consumption.
False. This isn't as easy as Jack may think. The humans that we are is pretty complex. Especially those with MENTAL problems.
Most of you reading this probably understand this. But, for those that are out there that don't really understand video games, Jack is exactly the reason why I decided to write a research paper on violent video games, specifically targeted to parents. - atTal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I'm a conservative Christian, and I think he's crazy. I'm supposed to check out games my kids are playing...
These law suits are crazy, and Jacko with his mastery of the English language seems to *really* become persuasive when he pulls out gems like these:
"Thompson has been a human piñata gleefully whacked by defendants herein,
and he has had enough of it."
or
"Indeed, Thompson seeks a
federal remedy, not a state remedy, and nobody, while we weren’t looking, repealed the
federal civil rights laws that prohibit and punish attempts to intimidate a citizen for the
exercise of his constitutional rights."
WTG jackie. You've got me convinced. I think it was your Chewbacca defense that did it. - echonull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hmm, perhaps someone should mail JT a DS and a copy of Phoenix Wright after he loses his license?
- rasensio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Jack, what is your problem ? you cant beat your son in super mario 3 ?
- erikjernberg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8
- Tunguska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Brian Crecente, who is a video game industry apologists as to its excesses, its
illegalities, and its Stalinist tactics." Jack Thompson
What.
The.
*****? - darkedict, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This was also a classic phrase from the complaint:
85. One Internet idiot sent Thompson the following email message just this day, out of the blue, which helps underscore the sociopathy of typical Kotaku knuckleheads:
"[quote about some person who enjoys violent video games]" - mykos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Exactly :D
